MULGRAVE PERFORMING ARTS PRESENTS
FEBRUARY 27-28, 2015 INSPIRED BY THE TV SERIES
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
A NOTE FROM THE
DIRECTORS
Driven to create a production that would accommodate a large cast, Mulgrave’s Performing Arts students have created a high school tale that revolves around a strong character who remains steadfast and strong amidst the horrors and challenges of life. Inspired by the TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, students share a metaphorical message that underscores the importance of the indomitable human spirit and of keeping one’s eyes on the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. Come experience teenage angst through the engaging characters and story arcs developed by Mulgrave’s amazing theatre group. I am personally honoured to have worked with such a talented and dedicated theatre group.
Lydia Race DIRECTOR
Though based off the American television series, our cast and crew have truly made Slayer its own. After initial auditions, the writing of the script was based on our actors, rather than the TV show itself. This allowed us to bring out the strongest traits in our cast, and enable them to further connect with their characters and truly delve into the twisted plot of Slayer. Capturing the essence and fear associated with a vampire lair demanded focus in multiple facets, not only including the actors but the set pieces, lighting, sounds, and props. Inspiration for this lair was of course drawn from the TV show, but each individual vampire that was created brought in a unique element, and allowed us to further explore this unfathomable demonic world. As in any theatrical performance, there were a number of challenges to overcome. As an assistant director, I was able to relate to both the cast and the crew, and use this knowledge as a means to not only overcome, but excel in the face of these challenges. The energy and charisma of everyone involved in the production has not only carried through from the beginning of the casting process, but multiplied over and over again into the last few weeks leading up to Opening Night. We hope you enjoy the show.
Soraiya Lalani ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
INSPIRED BY THE TV SERIES BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER ADAPTED FOR THE STAGE BY MULGRAVE THEATRE STUDENTS In every generation there is a chosen one, and she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness; she is the slayer. In our generation, the name of that girl is Buffy Summers, and she just wants to be normal. Even as Buffy searches for a ‘fresh start’ at Sunnydale High School, she will be faced with challenges in love, friendship... and demonology. Luckily, she won’t have to do it alone. With the help of friends, Xander and Willow, Giles (the vigilant Watcher), and an excitable French surprise, Buffy will fight to foil the plot of the vampires and prevent their Master from rising again. At risk of sending all living beings to Hell, this ragtag group will attempt to infiltrate the lair and close the portal before it’s too late. Witty, actionpacked and visually captivating, Slayer will give a whole new meaning to your typical teenage angst.
