Dear Gala Guests,

Over my 13 years at Mulgrave, I have collected many fond memories of galas. From The Silk Road themed event a few years ago (I may have to pull out the Hawaiian shirts again!), the events have been so meaningful and fun. With each gala, I am so impressed by the incredible organisation and planning of volunteers and staff, the talented students who perform, and the generosity and spirit of our community.

Once again, our gala tonight is raising funds for financial assistance which enables talented young people with limited means to benefit from our outstanding education and supports existing Mulgrave families on a short-term basis through troubled times. Having the privilege of being able to access a very high-quality education for our children is something we have in common. Sharing some of that privilege with young people who are less fortunate is important, brings benefits of inclusion and varied perspectives, and is the right thing to do. Creating a strong Financial Assistance Programme is important to me and I hope that this year’s gala will allow me to leave another small legacy for our school and our community.

I thank all of you for being here tonight to support this effort. My gratitude is extended in particular to our parent co-chairsNatasha Bak, Elnaz Ghandchi, and Echo Wu - and their team of volunteers for creating such a spectacular event. I will remember it always as the prom that caps off my time as your Head of School.

Kind regards,

John Wray (he/him) Head of School
