WELCOME Welcome to the Sports Planner – a place to keep all your coaching thoughts. All sorts of people from a various of backgrounds take up coaching for many different reasons. Our Sports Planners are more than just your normal planner – it’s a tool that helps you understand why you enjoy coaching and reflect on your own attitudes, beliefs and motives within your coaching practice. While spending many years coaching and messing about with a whole bunch of papers, printouts and notebooks, I felt like something was missing. I wanted to create a planner that could store all your coaching thoughts in one place, allowing coaches to plan, deliver and reflect. Making them a better coach. This is why the Sports Planner was created.
HOW THIS PLANNER IS SET UP The information on this page will show you how to get the best out of your Football Planner. It is a guide on how to use each aspect of the planner, using it to its full potential to get the best out of your team. Personal Data Please input all your personal data on this page; if it is lost, this enables the finder of the planner to return it safely, so you don’t lose all of your hard work (just watch out for them taking a few notes themselves). Coaching Philosophy Write down your very own coaching philosophy so you can remind yourself why you are in such a rewarding role. You can even share this philosophy with us and everyone else through our social media. Fixture List Keep up to date with your fixture list – no need to keep going online to view your next opposition. Place your fixtures for the season in this section and keep on top of your up-and-coming games, but don’t forget to put your results in after each game. 12 Monthly Planner Macro cycles are what lead to best player development. Use the 12-month planner to create your macro cycle and plan out the year ahead. Attendance Tracker Keep on top of your team’s attendance over the course of the season. Simply add in your players’ names and keep track of their weekly progress. Session Planner Plan your coaching session in advance. WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE
DEVELOPING A COACHING PHILOSOPHY It is important for every coach to develop a perconal coaching philosophy. Your coaching is strongly influenced by your coaching philosophy. It is a set of guiding principles that reflects your personal beliefs, values, motives for coaching and your choice of how you will conduct yourself as a coach. It may help you to provide the answers to a difficult situation in the future, will reflect your interpretation of that constitutes good coaching practice and is based on your thoughts and actions regarding issues. There are some consistent principles that go into creating a your own coaching philosphy: • • • • • •
Be yourself Define your coaaching objectives Establish rules Build ans nurture relationships with athletes Be organised Focus on the big picture
A coach’s philosphy is a very practical matter. Every coach, whether they are aware of it or not, follows certain principles based on thier own experiences, be that playing, education or work.
