P R O LO G U E Architecture is on the Boundary Architecture is always on the boundary. It lies between art and anthropology, between society and science, between technology and history. In my opinion, architecture is a subject that exists only by bridges between other subjects. The more bridges are built, the more abundant architecture will become. Therefore, in the future development of architecture, we should push the boundary of the subject, so that architecture can be sublimated in the integration of different subjects. A designer is committed to providing maximum choice or freedom. This idea expresses not only a way to describe the world as it is, but also a way to change the world. For thousands of years, architects have been overturning previous architectural concepts and creating new architectural spaces. They are closely related to contemporary philosophy, artistic style and technological development. The most creative architects have also looked to the past and to the future in order to reimagine the present. Twenty-first-century architects need to appreciate the shock of the old as well as the shock of the new.
Drawing Architecture What we do is very much a question of how to change the style of thinking. The most obvious difference in the way architecture is designed from other arts, in my opinion, is the medium and process of work. One of the most important characteristics of architectural design is that architects always have to go through some kinds of intermediary, mostly drawing, to establish a connection with the object of their design. So far, drawing on a two-dimensional plane is still the most important means for architects to express their ideas. Since the Renaissance, architectural design has gradually become an art of drawings, and architectural drawing has become a third-party force that can compete with buildings and architectural criticism. When architectural drawings become autonomous, we can manipulate the illusion of two dimensions to develop more possibilities for three dimensions, both conscious space and real space. As far as I‘m concerned, the creation of two-dimensional graphics in architectural design can actually refer to any two-dimensional art form. From a purely graphical perspective, almost any form can inspire architectural space. The virtual space contained in the plane media has great potential to be translated into architectural space.
The Theme of the Portfolio This portfolio is trying to make an attempt at this kind of translation process. According to the different context of the projects, the plane-mediated art which has an architectural connection with the theme is chosen. It has a wide range of forms, from static classical paintings to interactive indie games. They all have unique narrative virtual space, but the core of their ideology is closely related to our daily life and thinking, so they have the potential to be transformed into real space. We should learn from all fields outside architecture to broaden the horizon of architecture. In this process, social status and relevant theories must be combined to be integrated with the design theme. However, like many films adapted from novels, we should focus on the film itself in our final evaluation. Architecture also has its unique properties, so we should not lose sight of the source when establishing interdisciplinary connections. This portfolio is only a superficial attempt to analyze and translate other artistic ways of thinking and expressing the world in order to broaden my own architectural visions and skills.

The diagram above reveals the basic translation process used in the four projects. In the artistic work presented through the medium of two-dimensional plane, the formal characteristics as well as the theme and the implied thoughts can be combined with the practical and theoretical problems related to the project. The different disciplines can be integrated to achieve innovative architectural design schemes.
FROM VIRTUAL TO REALITY The most fascinating thing about two-dimensional art is that it always gives people the illusion of three dimensions. With the development of science and technology, the manifestation mode on the plane media has become more abundant and the spatiality has become more obvious. This kind of virtual space has a complete spacial language system which is able to interfere the real space. Virtual space also expresses profound ideas. We can see not only the various figures, but also the complex logical relationships and even the philosophical thoughts. Therefore, the translation of virtual space can also be structural. By rethinking the logic relations, the original order can be deconstructed into new one, which can be transformed into a spatial form of spiritual imitation under the realistic conditions.
TRANSLATION PROCESS Compared with industrial design, architectural design does not need to perfectly fit the figure of the body, and its huge scale does not have too many restrictions on people. Therefore, in the design process of the building, except for the limitation of gravity, almost any form can be adopted. The paper architecture undoubtedly increases more possibilities for the design. In his essay TRANSLATIONS FROM DRAWING TO BUILDING, Robin Evans discovered and discussed a way to rupture the equivalence between drawing and building. He saw drawings as the locale of subterfuges and evasions that one way or another get round the enormous weight of convention that has always been architecture's greatest security and at the same time its greatest liability. He preferred to concentrate on the manner of working rather than style or signification. If we extend the concept of drawing to an artistic form on a two-dimensional plane, the translation from two dimensions to three dimensions will become more diverse and unpredictable. When the picture changes from static to dynamic, its autonomy becomes stronger, and gradually forms the technique of manipulating architectural space, rather than just the expression of concepts or the representation of scenes.
01 MIRRORING THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS RENOVATION AND EXPANSION OF OLD BUILDINGS DALIAN, CHINA INDIVIDUAL WORK AUTHOR OF ALL DRAWINGS In the center of Dalian, there is an old area with a large number of old residential buildings surrounding the old campus. As we make our way along Zhongshan Road, it is like a vacant, between the business district and the city government, devoid of community vitality. This area needs a visual and functional center. The old building, which had been used for art teaching for a long time, is now mostly idle, and the internal space is difficult to adapt to the current demand, so it needs to be expanded. Because of its need to create a regional focus within the area, the old building needs to grow upwards to achieve a beautiful urban landscape. The old building is European style, with complex volume and rich courtyards. If the bearing wall can be removed, the space with rich perspective can be obtained. And this reminds me of the famous painting that is closely related to the principle of vision, LAS MENINAS. The most important point of this painting is its paradoxical mirror-representation technique, which can be used to extend the old building, mirror the old building horizontally into the air with the same spatial layout, and obtain the new building volume. Picasso's imitation of the painting, transforming it into a cubist style, from classical to modern, also inspires the shaping of the new volume, and also integrates the internal space, breaking and recombining the space of the old building in another way, showing the potential of the classical space with a contrast between the old and the new.

City Axis Analysis Zhongshan Road is the most important city axis in Dalian. It spans the city from east to west, with various centers, but there is a vacancy in the old school district. The school and surrounding residential areas have the highest density of road networks, but the flow of people is low, which indicates that the area lacks a place to gather people.

Zone Activation The old school area has low utilization rate and low height, so it has great development potential in this area. If it is transformed into a landmark art center with a certain height, which meets the needs of art teaching and art viewing, as well as a huge indoor place for people to communicate freely, it can radiate the whole area both horizontally and vertically.

In the famous painting LAS MENINAS by Velรกzquez, the main objects of the painting, the king and queen, are not visible in the virtual room, but are reflected in the mirror in the picture. This classical painting shows a very modern way of representation and also inspires a new way of showing old buildings.
With the language of Cubism, Picasso painted 58 variations of LAS MENINAS. While keeping the basic composition unchanged, he transformed classical painting elements with modern ones. Its transformation process has inspired the relationship between modern and classical architecture.

From Classical to Modern According to the transformation of painting elements, modern architecture needs to disassemble, transform and reassemble the classical architecture to create a more open and flowing space while retaining the basic spatial characteristics. In addition, the building as a whole will also affect the shape of each component.

GAZING
If we restore the room in the painting to a real three-dimensional space, we will find many spetial qualities in this space. Using these attributes in the design will create a richer spatial experience. This spatial difference is not only reflected in the form, but also in the basic pattern and combination of space.
The appearance of the mirror complicates the line of sight in the picture and enhances the interaction between people inside and outside the painting. Similarly, the use of this visual relationship in design will create a very interesting connection between architectural spaces.

S y mm etr ical space gives a feeling of mirror image, where people may find the perspective of the person in the painting.
The line of sight when looking at the paintings on the wall turns into a spiral way that can evolve into an exhibition space.
Eye to Eye Both old and new part have an independent 'island', which allows people in it to communicate visually with the rest of the building.

Spacial Layers
Inferring the layout of the building from the information of the holes of the room in the painting is an effective way to create a dramatic space.
The position of the characters in the painting can also be extended to the real space, increasing the layering of the scenes in the building.

The entrance mirrors the surrounding landscape
Among Picasso's numerous variations, there is one with a strong cubist style, in which the red part connects the whole picture, dissolves the spatial depth presented by the classical perspective painting method, and creates a new connection for the figures in the picture. This innovation in the space and form of the painting can be projected into the design to create a corridor passing through the building, which fuses with the various parts of the building and becomes a connectome space to experience the everchanging space in continuous walking.

Two mutually perpendicular frames provide both inside and outside views of the building on the north part. The frame is well integrated with the spatial features, enhancing the transformation and fusion of inside and outside.
On the east part there is a hidden large picture frame facing the atrium. The rest of the frame and its collection of internal activities also provide another panoramic view.
Capture The juxtaposition of consecutive ramps within the frame creates a complex dynamic with different p e o p l e m ov i n g a r o u n d at the same time. People walking on the ramps also get a panoramic view of the building's interior.
DECONSTRUCTING VISUAL ORDER Seeing and Being Seen Social Relations of the Visual System
Penetrate The three parallel frames are located in different depths of the space, and the overlapping of different activities presents a vision of transparency.
Montage The small frame oriented at different angles provides a collage of scenes for people inside and outside the studio at the same time, providing unconventional thinking for the creation.
In Foucault's opinion, the visual order of LAS MENINAS is not the composition itself, but the interaction and conversion of multiple gazing relations, which contribute to the reciprocate of representation and deconstruct the one dimension of reading. The red frames within the building provides focus for this multiple vision. People move in and out of the frames, presenting a continuous and dynamic complex scene. For artistic creation, the transparency and multiplicity of the perspectives can also provide unpredictable inspiration and surprise.
0 2 F E R R I S TO P I A HEALING HOPSCA SKYSCRAPER OSAKA, JAPAN INDIVIDUAL WORK AUTHOR OF ALL DRAWINGS Japan is a country where workplace etiquette is really important, but it also puts a lot of pressure on employees. The prevalence of mental illness and suicide rate of Japanese are very high, and there is a great amount of mental stress hidden in the efficient performance. In order to release the inner pressure of the Japanese to a certain extent, a place of spiritual release was created. Nakanoshima is the heart of Osaka, an important link between the north and the south of the city, and has a long history. There are a lot of tall buildings on the island, but most of them are office complexes. It is a common sight for white collars to hurry down the street. Although there are green lands, parks and art galleries for people to relax, they are relatively quiet places and cannot release their emotions completely. Nakanoshima needs entertainment, and in Japan, the ferris wheel is the perfect reference. If a ferris-wheel-like high-rise building is built on Nakanoshima, it can not only provide people with a novel experience, but also create a special landmark on the island. The ingenious PAPRIKA is a Japanese animated film that tells a story of healing people through their dreams. It has a wonderful description of dreamworld, and its creative spatial fabrication and transformation techniques can be combined with the specialty of the ferris wheel to translate into a multi-level spatial structure based on cabin transportation, in order to provide people with different levels of spiritual healing by referring to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis theory.

Versatile Circles A building associated with the ferris wheel cannot do without thinking about the circular element. For a long time, dreams and circles were closely related, and patterns based on circles represented beauty and completeness. Therefore the surrounding interface of the building is undoubtedly the stage for the circular exhibition.
Polygons of divergent growth symbolize the extension of consciousness on which dreams are based. Circular lines of different radii are interspersed in the consciousness, forming the outermost skin of the building.

03 OUTSIDE IN URBAN DEVELOPING AREA URBAN DESIGN DALIAN, CHINA INDIVIDUAL WORK AUTHOR OF ALL DRAWINGS In order to relieve the traffic pressure in the city center, the government of Dalian opened a cross-sea bridge from the downtown area to the high-tech industrial zone. The starting point of the bridge is situated at Lingshui Bay, which is also the location of the site. At the same time, Lingshui Bay is also located along Zhongshan Road, which is the intersection of Dalian's two topgrade arterial roads. The site is reclaimed from the sea and also at the breakpoint of the coastal hilltype belt, which provides the largest view of the sea. Facing the similar pattern of recent domestic urban construction, I reinterpreted the 'needle' and the 'globe' in DELIRIOUS NEW YORK. The infinite growth of high-rise buildings establishes a "culture of congestion" in vertical, but limits the development of urban public space in the horizontal direction. Therefore, this project attempts to integrate the horizontal space of the city, separating the high-rise and podium, creating a second horizontal plane and enriching the activities of the urban space. The high-tech industrial zone has one of the largest software parks in China, so Lingshui Bay will also introduce a large number of IT industries. A massive urban public space that integrates the podiums and turns the outdoor into the indoor or semi-indoor space bears some resemblance to the highly rated video game INSIDE. The protagonist of the game has been exploring in the dark space, in search of rebellion and freedom. And this freedom is also the urban space that this project wants to achieve.

The setting of grid shows a kind of instrumental rationality, which sacrifices beauty for fairness and creates supreme freedom for threedimensional lawlessness based on uniform twodimensional law.

Privately owned public space (POPS) is a growing phenomenon in cities, but the excessive intervention of developers makes POPS more restrictive. In this project, a complete and continuous strip of public space is set on the central axis where the crowd gathers the most. 0 4 I N T E R M AT R I X MULTI-ACTIVITY CORRIDOR TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION IN PUBLIC SPACE CHICAGO, USA INDIVIDUAL WORK AUTHOR OF ALL DRAWINGS In Chicago, the area where Millennium Park is located is a gridbased urban fabric, while the park itself is full of extremely free curviline elements, a fierce conflict between straight line and curve. The Chase Promenade is a pedestrian corridor in the park for temporary exhibitions. The purpose of this project is to create a temporary construction for human activities to show the dialectical relationship between straight and curve. Chicago is also a city with a worldwide reputation for high-rise buildings. This project will look back at the history of Chicago's skyscrapers, extract characteristic formal elements and classify them for use in the construction. The ruled surface is a special form of curved surface generated by straight lines. It represents an intermediate between straight and curve. Therefore, this project will also analyze the existing buildings applying ruled surfaces, and adopt the parametric design method to generate abundant curved surface through straight elements. It's like a battle between rationality and sensibility, between static and dynamic. You can draw by feeling or generate by parameter. In the famous sci-fi movie THE MATRIX, there is a struggle between human consciousness and computer algorithms. In addition, many pioneering photography techniques in the film also have an enlightening effect on the dialectical form of the project. This project seeks a new design method by combining two different kinds of curve generation methods.

Role Model of Urban Public Space
Home of High-rise Buildings
Park planning meets the needs of different groups, embodies the people-oriented care everywhere, while greatly meeting the parking needs of the city center.
Since the Chicago School set up the model of super-tall buildings, high-rise buildings that have experienced more than 100 years not only represent the achievements in engineering, but also become the spokesmen of the city itself, as an important totem and symbol of Chicago in various media of urban marketing.

Connection and Interaction The promenade is located between Randolph street and Monroe street and is divided into three sections: the north wing, the middle wing and the south wing. The public can rent the corridor at any time of the year, and the long-term tents in the corridor make it easy to accommodate various activities.
VS Between a Straight Line and a Curve The plan for contemporary Chicago is based on a square grid, but Millennium Park, a landmark of the new era, is filled with variable and ostentatious curvilinear elements within a rectangular frame. Is there an architectural language that can find an intermediate state between straight and curve, so that people staying in it can sense the opposition and integration of linear and curved elements.

Often these are tall structures where the hyperboloid geometry's structural str eng th is used to support an object high off the ground, but it is also often used for decorative effect as well as structural economy.

Sinusoidal Conoid
Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926)
Gaudi's surface is the right conoid the directrix of which is a sinusoid located in a plane parallel to the axis.We named it this way because it was used by Gaudi for the roof of the 'escoles'.
Hyperbolic Paraboloid
It is the ruled structure of a hyperboloid of revolution of one sheet by illustrating its generation by a straight line. Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012)
Félix Candela (1910-1997)
The hyperbolic paraboloid can be defined as the reunion of straight lines passing through two points that move with a constant velocity on two noncomplanar straight lines.
In geometry, a surface S is ruled (also called a scroll) if through every point of S there is a straight line that lies on S. A ruled surface can be described as the set of points swept by a moving straight line.
