MURMUR REVIEW: YES 38 Charles St, MCR. M1 7BD So nice, we went there twice (in a day). YES is the venue that Manchester desperately needs. It is cheap, offering a pint for £2.95 and free club nights. The venue is expertly designed - the basement is small and smoky, as it should be; the ground floor is welcoming, with DJs playing some of the best music we’ve heard in a while; the pink room is spellbinding, with amazing

Not many basement disco’s in Manchester are fully accessible to everyone but YES provides a welcome exception. Just be aware there will be some flashing lights inside. £3, 6.30 - 9.30pm

Looks like October 13 is the day of print fairs! To celebrate the launch of Simon Grennan’s exhibition and newest book ‘Drawing in Drag by Marie Duval’, there will be a queer book fair at the beautiful Chetham Library, including readings, a lesbian semiotics drop-in studio and a comic and zine workshop. A powerful, striking reimagination of the satirical sci-fi novel by Karel Čapek, now set in post-Brexit Britain, that calls into question the current state of capitalism and treatment of migrants and people of colour. Performed by Knaïve Theatre. £7/13, 7.30pm

Creator and director Alexis Daloumis introduces his documentary film
project “Belki Sibe”. The film is looking to investigate the war against ISIS in Syria, and the Rojava Revolution. Daloumis and his crew filmed events in the region covering the “liberation of Raqqa city”, the battle of Manbij and the following elections. £5, 7pm
10 October CT05: The Devil & Daniel Johnston @ Dulcimer Bar This 2005 documentary chronicles the life of cult musician Daniel Johnston from his childhood to the present, focusing also on his struggles with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. As a UNESCO City of Literature and with a proud history in science, radical thinking, music, sport and art, MCR is a dynamic place for writers, publishers and the spoken word. 25 October Keisha Thompson & fukudapero @ 2022
Come celebrate the launch of two exciting new poetry collections: Lunar by Keisha Thompson and Flowers Like Blue Glass by fukudapero. Thompson combines a mixture of voices to address themes such as the black British experience and mental health, whereas fukudapero’s minimal dualingual poetry integrates Japanese and English text, exploring the liberation of words from their meaning.
