Romantic comedies: Love them or tolerate them—but let’s be honest, you can’t hate a rom-com. They’re always good for a cozy evening, especially when the weather is so chilly. And it never hurts that they are sprinkled with a good life lesson or two. Not to mention, they pair perfectly with a bottle of wine or just about any kind of snack. (I personally like to pop some popcorn and mix a few peanut M&Ms in. But you do you). For the next time you are needing a little pick me up or something other than vodka to warm your insides, our team would like to share with you our favorites to help you out. -Kelly Murray

SWEET HOME ALABAMA - Kelly Murray and Steve Gamel What’s not to love about a BIG CITY girl coming back to her small southern hometown and falling in love with it and her first love all over again. It stars Reese Witherspoon as Melanie, a fashion designer in NYC, who is forced to return to her Alabama roots – a place she thought that she was too good for….but might be exactly what she needs.
PRETTY WOMAN - Michelle Daughtery This one is a MUST. Pretty Woman is a 1990s American romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. The film’s story centers on down-onher-luck Vivian Ward, who is hired by Edward Lewis, a wealthy businessman, to be his escort. The story follows their blossoming relationship over the course of her week-long stay with him. The film’s title is based on “Oh, Pretty Woman,” written and sung by Roy Orbison.
ARTHUR - Toribia Alonzo This 1981 film stars Dudley Moore as Arthur Bach, a drunken New York billionaire who Is on the brink of an arranged marriage to a wealthy heiress but ends up falling for a poor waitress from Queens, Linda Marolla, played by Liza Minnelli.
THE PRINCESS BRIDE - Jana Melton and Steve Gamel I don’t watch a lot of “RomComs,” but when I do, my all-time favorite love story is Princess Bride. I remember when I was a kid, sick at home, that this was a movie my mom would go to Blockbuster’s and rent for me (Princess Bride and The Outsiders, oooo Ponyboy ) while I stayed home. Anyway, it’s about a beautiful princess who is supposed to marry a dreadful prince. But the adventure comes when she is rescued by her one true love. It’s a must-see and has lots of humor and love! “ASSSSSSSS YOUUUUU WISSSHHHH.”
HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS - Jaci McCollum
Kate Hudson (Andie) is an up-and-coming journalist for a big city magazine who has been given the task of writing an article about How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. She is dating Matthew McConaughey (Ben) and gathering all the storylines and info for her article. Meanwhile “Ben’s buddies have made a bet with him about how to lose her! After spending so much time together and growing close, they both find out what the other is up to and the rest of the love story unfolds from there!
THE PROPOSAL - Lizzy Hoffman I love comedy and crazy romantic movies. This movie is a good example, very funny. A pushy boss forces her young assistant to marry her in order to keep her visa status in the U.S. and avoid deportation to Canada. AND OF COURSE, THEY FALL IN LOVE :) TA DA!!!
