Guyer ready to take on
new district slate by Steve Gamel
T
he Guyer football team is used to being placed in a tough district lineup every year. That won’t change next season, though there is the added incentive of exacting revenge on a few opponents of the past.

Head coach John Walsh and company learned they would join a revamped District 5-6A lineup that includes the likes of Denton Braswell, Allen, Prosper, McKinney, McKinney Boyd, and Little Elm. The news was released during the University Interscholastic League’s biennial reclassification and realignment day on February 3. The new district lineup is for the 2020-22 school years and is for all sports at Guyer – not just football. There are several positives with this new lineup. For starters, it’s a chance to play fellow Denton ISD school, Braswell, for the first time. Braswell makes the jump from 5A after making the playoffs last year for the first time in program history. Guyer will also get its hands on Allen. The Wildcats have never beaten the Eagles, but already planned to play them in nondistrict had the two not ended up in the same district.
www.LantanaLiving.com
Another coup is that should the Wildcats make the playoffs, they will certainly be battled tested. This is important as Walsh lost 16 starters to graduation, including star running back Kaedric Cobbs and wide receiver Seth Meador. Eli Stowers returns at quarterback but won’t start the season as he’s still recovering from a knee injury in last year’s state title game loss to Austin Westlake.
creating a rivalry,” Walsh said of Braswell to the DRC. “Cody [Moore] has done a great job out there. The good news is we are going to play in four of the nicest stadiums in the state. They’re all good venues, including ours.”
Walsh told the Denton Record-Chronicle that he is extremely excited about the team’s entire schedule. Not only will they face Braswell, but the Wildcats will also face longtime
Walsh always feels his teams are prepared for tough sledding, and this year won’t be any different. Since 2010, Guyer has competed in four titles games while winning two. They’ve flip-flopped classes regularly during that stretch, and Walsh has made it a point to schedule the best teams possible in nondistrict.

ntentionally harming already damaged skin might seem illogical, but that’s exactly what a chemical peel does. The intent is to inflict just enough harm to trigger the body’s regenerative healing process. As damaged epidermal cells slough off, healthier, smoother skin takes their place.
Which Skin Conditions Can a Chemical Peel Treat?

their place, healthy new skin cells appear. Types of Chemical Peels The most commonly used substance is glycolic acid. Derived from sugarcane, it belongs to a class of acids called
“fruit acids.” Glycolic acid is a relatively mild substance, which targets the
superficial layers of the skin. Several
applications may be required to achieve the desired outcome, and this type of
peel may be insufficient for more severe dermatological problems.
www.LantanaLiving.com
Unlike glycolic acid, phenol peels work their way deep into the skin, and are so strong that a treatment takes only thirty minutes. Phenol generally yields excellent results - but the recovery time is long, peaking at one to two weeks after treatment and taking up to three months before the skin no longer appears damaged. Trichloroacetic acid peels occupy a middle ground - neither as mild as glycolic acid nor as powerful as phenol. Trichloroacetic acid may be more effective than glycolic acid at reducing the appearance of fine lines, and the recovery time tends to be shorter than that of a phenolic peel. Possible Side Effects Chemical peels can be highly effective but are not without potential risks. Applying caustic acid to the skin leaves the treated area tender, red and sore. Some patients may experience infection or scarring. Side effects are most pronounced after a phenol peel - at worst, the skin may ooze before scabbing over and progressing to a stage of healing which resembles sunburn. There is also the risk of permanent hypopigmentation a distinct lightening of the skin.
www.LantanaLiving.com
No Pain, No Gain Do the benefits of chemical peels smoother, finer, younger looking skin, fewer fine lines and a reduction in sun damage, dark spots or acne scars outweigh the potential side effects? Ultimately, that’s a question you have to answer for yourself. Chemical peels are a unique way to undo the visible signs of aging and environmental exposure. They aren’t without risk, but they often succeed where other treatments do not. To ensure that a glycolic acid, phenol or trichloroacetic acid peel is right for you, always get evaluated and treated by a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist. They can tell you if your blemishes are serious or benign, if a chemical peel is a suitable procedure for your skin type and apply the peel at the correct strength and appropriate frequency.

Coronavirus by Dr. Rebecca Butler (Lantana Resident), Board Certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics
H
ealth officials continue to monitor the outbreak of coronavirus disease COVID-19, but “the risk for all Texans remains low,” says the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
While this is good news for us at this time, there is no way to predict at this time exactly how far this virus will spread and within what time frame. Talk of a vaccine has been rumored and scientists are in fact working on a vaccine to prevent the spread of this virus and decrease mortality rates.
What you need to know about the coronavirus and how it spreads: Symptoms:
How COVID-19 Spreads:
For confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death. Symptoms can include:
Current understanding about how the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads is largely based on what is known about similar coronaviruses.
•
Fever
•
Cough
•
Shortness of breath
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person, who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
CDC believes at this time that symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure. This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
How efficiently does the virus spread? How easily a virus spreads from personto-person can vary. Some viruses are highly contagious (like measles), while other viruses are less so. Another factor
is whether the spread continues over multiple generations of people (if spread is sustained). The virus that causes COVID-19 seems to be spreading easily and sustainably in Hubei province and other parts of China. In the United States, spread from person-to-person has occurred only among a few close contacts and has not spread any further to date. There is still more to be learned COVID-19 is an emerging disease and there is more to learn about its transmissibility, severity, and other features and what will happen in the United States. New information will further inform the risk assessment. The latest updates on COVID-19 is on the CDC website, along with publishing a Hospital Preparedness Assessment Tool to help prepare for the possible arrival of patients with COVID-19. If you have any questions or concerns or recent travel to endemic areas, please contact your healthcare provider for information and guidance.

Lantana couple funds
Blanton
bike-riding program by Steve Gamel
I
t wasn’t that long ago when children were on their bicycles all the time. You could drive down any street or through a winding neighborhood and see countless kids having races with their friends, riding their bikes to and from school, or popping wheelies for fun in the front yard. Bicycles were everywhere, and learning to ride one was tops on the to-do list. These days, kids aren’t on their bikes as often, or at all, either because they never learned to ride, don’t have interest in it, or don’t have access to one. Well, Lantana residents Zach and Bree Parham are hoping to change that in a hurry. Through a generous donation, the Parhams recently paid to have a complete learn-to-ride program installed at Blanton Elementary School in Lantana. The program, which is through the nonprofit, All Kids Bike, is a nationwide movement of the Strider Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that rallies parents, educators, community leaders, www.LantanaLiving.com
health officials, and generous donors to place Kindergarten PE Programs into public schools for free. They equip schools with strider bikes, helmets, training, and everything else a teacher would need to teach children how to ride a bike during their Kindergarten PE class. Whether they are first-time riders or veterans, students develop a solid foundation of biking skills in the friendly confines of their schools. “Our thought was that if we can help fund the program to kick it off, it will allow every kid a chance to learn to ride. And who knows, perhaps that would lead to other schools jumping on board, too,” Zach said. “All Kids Bikes has been doing this for a few years. It’s a movement that’s already going on … we just jumped on board.” Zach and Bree, who have an 8-year-old and 11-year-old at Blanton, donated the entire $4,000 that was needed to get the Blanton program kicked off. Blanton
received instructional materials for the teachers, helmets, and 22 strider bikes. Strider bikes do not have pedals and are designed to teach kids how to balance while riding a bike. Once the students master the balancing part, teachers have the option to add wheels. The Strider Education Foundation, the program’s provider, also offers continued support for each school. Similar programs can be set up at any school that’s interested. Per its website, All Kids Bike is currently in 29 states and has 157 funded schools — putting the number of students impacted this year at 25,227. Over the next five years, the nonprofit is anticipating that 126,495 students will be positively impacted. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to get more kids riding bikes,” Zach said. For more information on how to get your school involved, visit allkidsbike.org.

My kids are once again struggling to maintain their composure as they impatiently stare at the spinning Netflix circle, eagerly waiting for the ever so frustrating buffer cycle of their anticipated show. Amongst their complaints, I find myself reminding them of times long ago when cartoons were only shown on Saturday mornings, on an immobile TV set, that required manual changing of the channels. Without sounding too archaic, I still take the time to remind them of things not to take for granted.
In this medical issue, I would like to take the time to point out the importance of

e’ve been given a really amazing gift that gave us our children and the opportunity to experience life, that should be celebrated and the way to do that is by taking care of it.” Spring is all about new beginnings, and Carli Williams has gone through her own wellness rebirth as well. After becoming a new mom and absolutely loving her new role, Carli started feeling lost and insecure with herself, and dealing with postpartum anxiety. Deciding to start moving her body again, she found that fitness and wellness was her new beginning. “I started to realize everything in my life was greater, everything was elevated,” Carli said. “I was more social again, more connected to my family, an energetic mom, and I felt really confident.” This newfound love for herself and her body made her realize that she wanted other women and moms to feel this way, too. In 2017, Carli created an Instagram account, FitnessCarli, mainly as an accountability handle for her fitness journey. She quickly realized there was a growing community of women who wanted

to get fit and toned after having babies. Many reached out to her asking advice on workouts and meal plans. “So, I wrote down what I actually ate and what was actually realistic,” Carli said. “I created something that other busy women could easily follow along with.”
In a quick three years, Carli has over 74,000 followers and grown her, now, business into a community filled with women coming together and celebrating the beauty of taking care of their bodies. “I just love getting women together and focusing on progressing together,” Carli said. “Anyone that is in the beautiful stages of motherhood but feels sad, alone, and overwhelmed; I get that and I know how to help you feel better.”

A fitness and wellness journey is just that: a journey. Carli continues to look for other ways that will help her progress, too. “The biggest misconception for people when it comes to losing weight is focusing on what needs to be cut out,” Carli said. “For me, that never worked. Instead, I look at what you can add in to your wellness routine. Carli bases her meal plans and lifestyle around the idea of nourishing yourself first and satisfying your taste buds second. To do this, you need start adding in the good stuff. Three Things to Add In: • Add in vegetables. Find a way to add in three cups of vegetables to your meals. Can you grill some asparagus with lunch or add in steamed broccoli with dinner? Even if you don’t change anything else at first, adding in vegetables helps to fill you up, and provides fiber, micronutrients, and vitamins. • Stay hydrated. If you can’t drink the recommended amount of water, try to add one or two extra cups each day. Or, drink Carli’s spinach banana water. Half of a ripe banana, two cups of spinach, water, and blend. It’s a mild drink that hydrates you, is only 67 calories, and gives you tons of fiber and potassium. • Physical activity. Carli only works out for 30 minutes a day. She has created in-home, simple workout guides that
work. Or add in a daily bike ride, a run or walk around the neighborhood, a swim, or a HIGH fitness class at your local gym.
“Most importantly, give yourself realistic expectations for your wellness journey and find a way to enjoy it,” Carli said. “Come at it from a place of gratitude for your body.” Follow Carli on Instagram or for information on her workouts and meal plans, visit www.FitnessCarli.com.

onna Phillips and the rest of her dynamic team at Studio 360 Med Spa in Highland Village have always felt like their neighborhood spa was destined for big things. They just didn’t think it would happen so quickly. In only 14 months, they’ve gone from opening their doors for the first time and waiting anxiously for the phone to ring to averaging nearly 100 new clients a month. Seriously! They’re not exaggerating. They’ve also doubled the facility’s size, added more professionals to serve their clients’ every need, and brought in an additional suite of products and services that literally make Studio 360 an experience like none other. “You get busy with the day-to-day that you don’t always get to step back and realize, ‘Wow, we’re really doing something great here.’ But I guess we really are,” Donna said. “The team we have is amazing. They enjoy coming to work.” Manager Ryndi Hoge, who has been by Donna’s side since the beginning, agreed.

Maximizing The Quality
of Education by Brooke Ezzo
O
n February 1, 2020, the Denton Public School Foundation hosted one of their biggest fundraisers of the year, the Groundhog Day Gala. This year’s theme was Education and All That Jazz, and guests filled the Denton Convention Center in their best 1920s attire. The Denton Public School Foundation is a non-profit corporation founded for the purpose of raising and providing support for the teachers and students of Denton ISD.
“The Foundation was established for the purpose of raising funds to enrich and maximize the quality of education in the Denton ISD,” said Jenifer Fuller, Gala coordinator. Many might not know that most school districts partner with education foundations to help support staff and academic programs. Although the Foundation is a separate entity, they work in cooperation with the Denton ISD administration. “The public schools are supported by tax payer dollars, but this usually covers the basics,” Jenifer said. “We feel that our kids deserve more, so the goal of the Foundation is to find support within the community to make that happen.” One way to make this happen is by fundraising.

“The Groundhog Day Gala is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser and celebration of the year,” Jenifer said. “We have a Donor Reception just before the big event to honor those who have given either new endowments or significant contributions to the Foundation over the previous year.” Celebrating its 18th year, the Gala did not disappoint. The decorations made you travel back in time, the silent auction room was adorned with incredible items, and the room housed the Library to Go bus. When it was time for dinner, everyone found their seats and enjoyed entertainment by the Denton High School Jazz Band and the Braswell High School Royals Dance team. programs are formed to enrich the lives of the students and staff. Jenifer said a goal of the Foundation’s for next year is to simply try and keep up with the growth of the district and by raise awareness of the Foundation in the community. The 19th Annual Groundhog Day Gala will be held on February 6, 2021.
We Feel That Our Kids Deserve More
The profits from the Gala are used to create permanent endowments that will provide teacher grants and scholarships, creating programs, and student scholarships. “This past year we focused on the Library to Go bookmobile and Outstanding Meal Balances for Child Nutrition,” Jenifer said. Monies raised from the Gala each year allow the Foundation to continue their mission of supporting the education of our children. As donations come in, incentives and special

Are You Leaving These Important
Things Out of Your Workout? by Jesse J. Leyva, Owner of Jesse James Fit & Outlaw Fitcamp

here’s a natural tendency to jump right into your workout and then head immediately to your car as soon as you’re finished. And who can blame you? Everyone is short on time these days. But if you practice what should be done before your workout and immediately afterward, you’ll improve your progress and results. Here are 10 additional things that need to be a part of your fitness routine. Before you workout:
1. Get enough sleep. Adequate sleep will not only give you the energy you need to do an effective workout, it also keeps your hunger hormones at bay, so you don’t overeat after you leave the gym. 2. Drink! A lot of us grab our water bottle in the middle or end of our workouts, but it’s just as important to hydrate before you begin. We suggest your daily amount of water be half of your bodyweight in ounces per day. 3. Grab a snack. This one is not a must—if you’re not feeling like eating before your workout, you don’t need to force yourself to eat. But if you’re even a little hungry, grab a healthy snack
so you have the energy to exercise. And if you exercise first thing in the morning, as many of us do, then eat something.

4. Make sure your workout clothing and footwear are right for your workout. This isn’t about style. Make sure you’re wearing workout clothing that allows you to jump, stretch, run, and move every way you need to. Wear athletic shoes that give you the support you need.
3. Drink water.
5. Do a dynamic warm-up. Warming up raises your body temperature, increases your range of motion, and prepares your muscles for what you’re about to do. It also decreases chances of injury.
kind of snack will replenish glycogen
Right after your workout: 1. Stretch. While dynamic stretching is best for warming up, those regular old stretches you’ve done since middle-school gym class are what you need for cooling down. Stretching muscles that are already warmed up helps your joints stay mobile and improves your range of motion. Hold these stretches for at least 15 seconds each. 2. Use a foam roller. Rolling on the foam roller works out any kinks or knots that may have developed. Experts also recommend using a foam
exercising since it increases blood flow to the tissues you used in your workout.
The only thing listed on both our pre- and post-workout lists is drinking water. That’s
because it’s so important to stay hydrated! 4. Eat after exercising.
Giving your body the fuel it needs after a tough workout is essential. The right

5. Track your progress.

How To
Choose a
Med Spa by Contributing Writer

ith all the products and services out there, the options seem endless when it comes to ways to help you look and feel your best. To really be pampered with longer lasting, comprehensive results, though, a med spa is the way to go. Whether you want laser treatments, body contouring, cosmetic injections, specialty skin care products, or one of any of a number of other services, you want to make sure the spa you select is appropriately managed and the message you’re getting from the staff is forthright. A little research can help find a med spa that works for you to be able to pamper yourself and improve your appearance.
Look into the relationship between
ownership and operations at the med spa. Some facilities are owned by a physician,
who ideally spends significant time on-site managing treatments. Others are owned by physicians who provide no oversite.
Often a med spa will be under a doctor’s “Directorship,” some in which the doctor
is involved in all treatment decisions and some where the doctor is only on paper but they will rarely be at the location.

Facials and other procedures which are not done following proper guidelines for cleaning of equipment and disposal of one time use products can all lead to infection. typical recovery time. Whether you’re speaking with a doctor or technician, they should be pleased to inform you about the treatment so that you can relax. If they’re heavily pushing a particular treatment over another, ask why, and do your research. Understand the medical spa’s aftercare. It’s important that the staff isn’t just trying
to interest you in their services but is also dedicated to your comfort and health following the visit. When you evaluate various med spas, location and costs are important, but the quality of treatment is paramount. You want to understand the extent of the doctor’s involvement and that you will be treated in a sterile environment. A good med spa can give you a mental and emotional boost while also improving your physical appearance. Make sure you’ve chosen the right one.

Lori Houser is no stranger to cardiac issues. She has lived with an irregular heartbeat called Tachycardia for as long as she can remember. But, nothing could have prepared her for the road she was about to travel. After having constant headaches for a couple of weeks in April of 2018, Lori went to the neurologist and had an MRI. “I had it done on a Friday and they called the following Monday, asking me if I was sitting down,” Lori said. “They told me I had a stroke.” Lori was in the best of shape of her life; she ate clean and organic, she ran and 46 | LANTANA LIVING

worked out multiple times a week, and played soccer. Her lifestyle showed no signs of disease. The doctors immediately got her in for testing.
“For the next three weeks I felt like a lab rat,” Lori said. “They poked and prodded me, did a bubble study to make sure there wasn’t a hole in my heart, and any other testing to find the cause of the stroke.” Without much luck, Lori had a heart monitor put in in May 2019. It’s called a loop recorder, and its main job is to find hidden rhythms that cause strokes. With another monitor next to her bed, the data is submitted to a device team. Each night, the monitors basically perform an ongoing EKG. “After two weeks, they called me and said the data showed I was in AFIB every four

6 Keys To An

C
rafting a standout resume is easier said than done. You could be a young person fresh out of college with only a few internships under your belt, or a 30-year veteran with a seemingly unending list of accomplishments. Clearly, it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach.
What do you put on there? What do you resume. I take pride in it because I leave off? What are the keywords I need know what it’s like to be on the job to use to nab this job? The answers to hunt. While there is no one-size-fits-all these questions are different for every job approach, here are 6 tips to keep in mind: hunter in every career field. What’s more is Avoid grammatical errors that I did a quick non-scientific poll of the Just for grins, I went back and found my internet and it appears most employers first resume. The emphasis should not only have someone you trust read over it. be on highlighting your educational and Create a clear header professional achievements, but doing Make sure your header has all the so in a way that makes those six seconds necessary contact information (your count. If an employer really likes you, name and updated phone number, surely they will read deeper. email, address, etc.) and that it’s properly One of the many things I do at Edit This centered all in one easy-to-find and is help business professionals craft their prominent location at the top of the page. No need to get cute; it makes the whole thing harder to read.
Own your summary statement There are recruiters and business professionals who don’t think having a summary statement near the top of your resume is important. I couldn’t disagree more. A summary statement allows you to quickly summarize your qualifications and what your objective is in a way that allows you to speak directly to whomever you are attempting to work for. Stay organized Make sure everything on your resume is clearly organized and includes names of previous employers, positions held, responsibilities, and key dates worked. Start with your most recent job and work back in reverse order. Avoid generalities Highlight your educational and professional achievements, so make sure you are specific when you do that. Instead of saying, “responsible for increasing business,” you should be saying, “Increased sales revenue by 75% over a two-year span.” Force yourself to have a cutoff point A general rule of thumb is to keep your resume to a page to a page and a half, including your education history, any certifications, and references.

stablished in 1989, the National League of Junior Cotillions (NLJC) is an organization that believes in
intentionally teaching children in our
community confidence, courtesy, and the social skills necessary for success.
From humble beginnings in North
Carolina, founder Anne Colvin Winters took her passion for community
involvement and education and created
a program where children were not only learning social dances but were being taught foundational life skills.
Today, the National League of Junior
Cotillions consists of a team of over 100 directors nationwide, operating 300
cotillion chapters in over 30 states. Two
of those dedicated directors operate the Lantana chapter.
Jayne Smith is a licensed director for the National League of Corporate Cotillions,
National League of Junior Cotillions, and the Junior Assemblies. She started with www.LantanaLiving.com
NLJC in 1997, since moving to Texas in
2008 she has started the Flower Mound and Southlake Chapters. In 2016 she started the Lantana chapter.
Lisa Leymeister became a licensed
director for the National League of Junior
Cotillions Northwest Chapters in 2012 and joined Jayne in the Lantana Chapter.
“I am so proud to be a part of the NLJC family,” Jayne said. “Working with the
middle school students is such a pleasure. We are giving them skills that will serve them a lifetime.”
Junior Cotillion is for students in grades 6-8. Students are provided a safe place
to learn without any peer pressure, since everyone is learning at the same time in the same way.
The 6th grade program targets the
correct interaction between ladies and gentlemen, how to treat one another, and what to expect from each other in a social situation. The curriculum
The 7th and 8th grade program covers the
same basics as the 6th graders but moves on to topics they will need in high school and beyond. This includes scholarship and job interviews, tipping, travel and theatre etiquette, tying a tie, social media safety, and more advanced dance instruction. The Cotillion year concludes with a formal ball held at Texas Motor Speedway where students show off the skills they learned during the year. It is a formal event with ladies in white and black dresses and gloves, and gentlemen in Tuxedos. “I believe strongly in the principles that we teach: honor, dignity, and respect for others,” Jayne said. “Those traits will serve you well your entire life.” The Lantana Chapter is holding a parent reception on Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00pm at the Lantana Golf Club. 800 Golf Club Dr. Parents who are interested in Jr. Cotillion are encouraged to come and hear an overview of the program, ask questions, and have the opportunity to register for the next Cotillion year. I
n 1981, my husband, Ron, had his first Air Force assignment at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida flying F-15 Eagles. It was a very exciting time and is still a common sight today to see and hear fighter jets fly over the Gulf of Mexico as you play on the beach. My first job was at the Destin Chamber of Commerce and then as a radio news anchor at WFTW. This area is very special to us and why I wanted to share about 30A – the scenic two lane road that is filled with charm, natural beauty and pristine sugar sand beaches!
Blue Mountain: Head over to For The Health of It. It’s an organic food and produce market where you can fuel-up with fresh juices or smoothies. It’s also a great place for a body massage. There’s actually large hills so be prepared to take stairs down to the beach. Grayton: The Shard Shop is a trendy make-your-own-art boutique. They offer classes in ShardART. This is a
place where you can create an original art piece. Or buy a piece of original art from artist and owner Mary Hong. The classes are fun and therapeutic. Seaside: This is such a picturesque little village. Lots of great waterfront dining and rooftop bars. I love shopping here and stopping at Modica Market, a quaint gourmet grocery. If you want to learn to surf, attend Austin Magee’s Surf School at Seaside. Austin is our cousin and is an awesome international surfer.
Rosemary Beach: We love this area and The Pearl Hotel reminiscent of a European villa. Bike rentals are popular here so consider a bike trip – my kind of exercise! There are endless things to discover along the 24 mile stretch of 30A. It’s always an active family vacation or a relaxing romantic getaway!

MORE REASONS WHY
CENSUS IS IMPORTANT by Precinct 4 Commissioner Dianne Edmondson
16 COUNTY OFFICE HOLDERS DISTRICTS CHANGE Other boundaries also will change within the county. Not our county-wide office holders, of course, but our districted ones including our four County Commissioners, and our six Constables, and Justices of the Peace. Those lines will be determined by the Commissioners Court, again based on the 2020 census numbers for each of those districts (also known as Precincts for Commissioners, Constables, and Justices of the Peace.) All these population-based changes are compliant with the American principle of one person, one vote. CENSUS CRITICAL IN MANY WAYS
A
s you know, last month we discussed the financial ramifications of the upcoming census. We learned that for even just a 1% undercount, Denton County would lose more than a million dollars a year in federal and state funds for roads, bridges, and schools in our county. Obviously, an undercount should definitely be avoided. MORE CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS FOR TEXAS?
Additionally, accurate governmental
representation for Denton County citizens depends upon an accurate census count. The national House of Representatives consists of 435 members, equally
divided among the 50 states, based on population, with Texas having 36

So, as you can see, there are many ramifications from the 2020 census and it’s very important for all of us --- citizens or not, adults or children --- to be counted. Your census form should arrive before April 1 and you can fill it out immediately either by hand or online. If you don’t have access to a computer, some will be set up in various county buildings, such as our courthouses, to allow census-only access for Denton County residents. Please do your part to be sure we have an accurate census count --- so very much depends upon that! Thanks!
