Building a Street Graffiti Museum through “The corner of eye in movement” observation. In this project I choose the site due to the complicate culture issue. The site is famous in Taichung with the ruins and graffiti. And there is an old building which is Occupied by foreign workers and their little shops. The building was a male, but due to the government policy problems, it shut down and became a mysterious mass in front the Taichung main train station. There are many groups in that building ex: Graffiti, foreign workers etc. They are all sub-culture. Which is easy to be “seen” but hard to be “understand”. These Groups harmonious coexistence. But people are afraid of The First Square due to the misunderstanding. Graffiti is a very stimulate way to reflect the local issues, but it alter in Taiwan to a kind of art gangster announcement. In the other hand foreign workers are links to dirty, and in some reason graffiti and workers both hide in this site. To break this status and let both sub culture and neighbors can understand and admit in to each other, I propose a street art museum program. Change the perception of this place through graffiti, change the perception of graffiti through workers.

The “coner of eye” observation is a methods I design to find out the most accurate site which will becaome the guiding wall. As we move by foot or automobile, the surrounding will twisted in a suddent. Depants on the speed and hight, the level of the twist will change. The method is to find out which part of the surroundings remains in the most low twisted level. That means that part can be well seen whether the observer is on any tranport tool. The auxiliary line is used to compare before and after the distortion occurs.

Group work, academic, 5th year thesis design Tutor: Po-Chi Ho, robertho.tw@gmail.com Site: Gushan Dist., Kaohsiung City 804, Taiwan (R.O.C.) Categories: religion, health, suburb, large Contribution: initial design, section & digram drawing, model maling, perspective render, layout. Published date: 13/05/2016

In this project, we start from two extremely opposite issue “live” and “death”, and try to integrate. In my part, I begin the study with religious explanation about live. To the city people, many of them do not feel alive but just living and hanging there. Therefore people hang out, party, drinking etc, just to escape from the reality. Through the studies I think it is possible a person can feel alive through self-actualization, to be satisfy themselves, and so I define “live” to be Self-actualization. As for my partner, he anchored “death” to a specific facility Hospice. In order to implement the opposite concept, we find the site Gushan cerement factory. It is the biggest and oldest factory in Taiwan and it’s facing to be tear down due to the air pollution and excessive logging. In our cognitive, tear down is the same as death, rebuilt it means to let the factory resurrection. How the site and our program can make both factory and city people feel alive again is our main aim.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. The Lord takes care of me as his sheep; I will not be without any good thing. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He makes a resting-place for me in the green fields: he is my guide by the quiet waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. He gives new life to my soul: he is my guide in the ways of righteousness because of his name. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Yes, though I go through the valley of deep shade, I will have no fear of evil; for you are with me, your rod and your support are my comfort. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. You make ready a table for me in front of my haters: you put oil on my head; my cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. [bbe] Truly, blessing and mercy will be with me all the days of my life; and I will have a place in the house of the Lord all my days.

Gushan is an old industry district. Many residents worked at the factories nearby. Using the original factory structure create a new Industrial landscape. Due to the considerable population of disabled, we design a rehabilitation center and system. The center is near the crematorium. We create a new ceremony that people can select a plant and plan in the resting area. Disabilities will take care of those plants. The Horticultural therapy will create a loop that when a person died, his bone ash became the nutrient for the plant, and the plant became the new emotion attachment for their family and even more, helping disabilities get better through horticultural therapy..

In this project we try to redefine the meaning of sacred space. For years sacred space are connect with holy light beams, high ceiling. It is always with religion. In this project, we facing a multiple religion site. Therefore a church or a mosque can not satisfy the aims. We study the history of Tanaf from BC to now, there are some really interesting traditions. Among all we find “rhythm and beats are the most potential elements that we can develop. The rhythm is so important that some religion even alter their rules or ceremony when it came to Tanaf. We observe the activities, their daily routine, and analysis their movement. As we analysis we realize that the daily routine is built with all kinds of rhythm, despite religion, their daily life is sacred itself. We do not need a construction for sacred, it is just everywhere and anytime. What we can do is just simply provide a square, where villagers can do whatever they want to do. So what is sacred for Tanaf, their daily life.

Published date: 02/05/2018

The project mainly tackles water-related issues and explores the ideal prototype of an egalitarian community centre which serves for all people. By introducing the fog catcher technique, it proposes to create a multifunctional gathering place for casual interaction, knowledge sharing, rites and so on. Situated in the absolutely picturesque landscape, the site is also enriched by the diversity of cultures and religions, endowed with supremely natural power. However, the topography, the growing population, and the lack of infrastructure result in water scarcity that needs to be addressed through architectural intervention. Water has been seen as a sacred component in Nepal in terms of religious activities and everyday life. Thus, the proposal focuses on transforming conventional community centre into “pilgrimage of everyday life. The centre draws on locally sourced, sustainable materials but seeks to use them in innovative ways, thereby allowing the villagers to preserve their traditions and harvesting water with a sense of proud and dignity. Taking inspiration of Nepalese daily outfit, Doko, the bamboo structures are interwoven with meshes to a religiously and locally significant typology, representing and encouraging the villagers to be engaged with the construction of this iconic centre- one they can appreciate and take pride in.

22

Water resource shortage

Fear of architcture

The topography, the growing population, and the lack of infrastructures have resulted this place in a seriously water-stressed area.

Buildings made of concrete or mud bricks have been seen as ‘means of fear’ due to the devastating earthquakes in the past.

23

24

Fog catcher

Life il the village

Sourcing water can take a villager over four hours per day in the region, obstructing the educational & economic development.

Food preparation is the mundane but important thing they have to do in their everyday life. Also, it cements the bonds between the people.

Water resource shortage

Fear of architcture

Nepalis have incredible craftsmanship, producing intricately woven textile elements and potteries, which are ubiquitous & vital in Nepalese society.

The buildings’ façade and steps are spontaneously decorated by Nepalis and adorned with colourful textile, potteries, millet, etc.
