PUBLISHER/ FOUNDING EDITOR Joe Pietaro
“We have to take this to the next level.” That is a line that both Gregg Valentino and myself have been saying for years to one another - even before we worked together at Muscular Development. Starting back in 2009, we wanted to co-host a video show that would be nothing like anything ever done in bodybuilding media. But for one reason after another, this idea remained on the back burner all of this time… until now, that is. As we were getting ready to go to print for this issue, shit began coming together with this idea and the wheels were put in motion. A studio is being built as I type this and we are expanding on the idea to merely bring a new version of The Gregg & Joe Show to a video format. MuscleSportTV will consist of an entire schedule of original programming that cover more than just bodybuilding. We are sports buffs, so expect one of the shows to bring you our unique spin on MMA, baseball, football, hockey, etc. Since MuscleSport Magazine launched in 2008, the industry has undergone a number of changes and the media outlets needed to adapt to keep up. We have been able to do that with print and digital versions of our publication, audio podcasts, social media pages, the website being updated daily and various video content. But we knew all along that a major upgrade was needed in that last category. And now that is being addressed… and in a major fuckin’ way.

Thoughts on Trump, Hillary, Obama, ISIS, BLM & Refugees
Trump is unlike all of the other politicians for one simple reason - he is not one of them. He does and says what he feels is right, the types of things that the others think but are too scared to admit. It’s because everything and everyone is so politically correct and it’s a friggin’ joke. If you mention race, you’re labeled a racist. Talk about religion, you’re a hate monger. It’s refreshing to
see someone like Trump for a change and I just hope that he keeps on being himself. When you look at your choice between Trump and Hillary Clinton, he is a much better option. This woman reminds me of the movie “The Omen” and she is the anti-Christ! Clinton must have some powerful friends to get away with the shit that she does. The e-mails, Benghazi, the lies… it’s incomprehensible
Trump does and says what he feels is right, the types of things that the others think but are too scared to admit how she is even still running for president. Whoever wins the election has to deal with the threat of ISIS but it really was the United States who helped create them in the first place. They were not
called ISIS at the time, but the US in a way threw out the baby with the bath water, to coin a phrase, so they have it out for them now. And all of this had a hand in the refugee crisis and with that comes multiple problems, one being the potential infiltration of these groups by ISIS. So when Trump says to stop Muslims from coming into the US until you know who they are, what’s wrong with that? You wouldn’t let strangers into your house if you didn’t know who they were, right? We’re dealing with the refugees here in Australia, too. They pass by a bunch of countries that won’t give them anything and end up here because they get a lot of free benefits. And then they have the balls to complain about our way of life. They burnt down the detention center and went on hunger strikes. I just don’t get it. They’re being taken in, fed, brought on day trips, given computers and mobile phones and know that they are all safe – their entire family – after leaving a place where they could all easily have been killed. Another thing that we are dealing with here is similar to what is happening in America with the Black Lives Matter group. If an aborigine dies in police custody in my country, it’s a race issue. But yet at the same time, there are like 341 white people dying in custody of the police and you don’t hear a thing about it. I’m so sick of this race card bullshit and BLM. News fuckin’ flash, folks – all lives matter. And all races have atrocities happen to them, not just blacks and aborigines. Maybe if you get treated badly or something bad happens to you, stop and think that it may not be because you’re black, but you’re just a fuckin’ cunt who happens to be black. It happens to all colors and creeds.

I GUESS IT’S TRUE WHEN THEY SAY “THE APPLE DON’T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE!!!” BACK THEN, I DROVE A VAN AND AFTER MY RENTED GIRLFRIEND FOR THE NIGHT TOOK A FEW HITS OF CRACK, I’D PUT ON A CASETTE TAPE OF BLACK SABBATH’S FIRST ALBUM. US GUYS ALWAYS PAY AND THERE’S NO GUARANTEE WE ARE GONNA GET MUSH POT PIE OR THE ASS AT THE END OF THE NIGHT! SO I FIGURED THAT I WOULD CUT OUT THE MOVIE & DINNER BULLSHIT,

I WANNA FEED HER MY BEST BODYPART - MY ASS BUSTER (MY DICK, YA FRIGGIN MOMO). HEY, I USE MY CASH MORE WISELY BY FIRST HAGGLING FOR A GOOD PRICE AND GETTING TO THE BOTTOM LINE. YO, I’M PAYING CASH, SO GIVE ME THAT ASS!!! I KNOW YOU GUYS FEEL ME ON THIS. ANYWAY, THIS IS A PUBLIC NOTICE TO ANY PRO BIKINI PIGGIE - IF YOU WANT YOUR ASS ORALLY KISSED *WIGGLING MY TONGUE* … LULULULUL… AND THEN DRILLED, AND IF YOU THINK I’M A HOTTIE, I AM WILLING TO PAY CA$H…JUST CONTACT MSM HEADQUARTERS FOR MY CONTACT INFO… MIKE MATARAZZO vs. GREGG VALENTINO: IT WAS AROUND 1991 IN THE DEAD OF WINTER WHEN I HAD BIG MIKE MATARAZZO IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF MY BIG BLACK BRONCO, WITH IFBB WOMEN’S DIVISION SANDY RANALI SITTING BETWEEN US. THEN IN THE BACK SEAT WAS MS. OLYMPIA LENDA MURRAY, MY BEST GIRLFRIEND NPC USA CLASS WINNER DANA CAPOBIANCO AND NPC NATIONAL LEVEL CHAMP LENNY STEPHENS. AND IN THE VERY BACK WAS MY BOY BOB BONHAM, MY LONGTIME FRIEND N.A.B.B.A.
VICE CHAIRMAN ALEX ABBEY, AND KEVIN LEVRONE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, MY CAR WAS LOADED WITH BEEF! WE HAD ALL JUST DONE AN NPC BENEFIT FOR ST. JUDE’S CHILDRENS HOSPITAL AND NOW IT WAS TIME FOR US TO GO AND EAT. ON THE WAY TO THE DINER, MIKE MATARAZZO STARTED TO TELL SANDY RINALI & I HOW THE NIGHT BEFORE THIS EVENT. HE WAS WATCHING THE HOWARD STERN SHOW ON TV IN HIS HOTEL ROOM. MATARAZZO WAS LAUGHING CAUSE HOWARD STERN WAS WEARING A ‘RUBBER BALD HEADED WIG’ ON HIS HEAD BECAUSE HE WAS DOING A SKIT WHERE HE WAS PLAYING THE ROLE OF A GUY WHO HAD A ‘BAD HEAD INJURY.’ MIKE SAID THAT STERN WAS ACTING RETARDED CAUSE OF ‘THE HEAD INJURY’ AND MATARAZZO SAID HE COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING AND THAT HE (MATARAZZO) THOUGHT THAT WAS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST SKITS HE HAD EVER SEEN ON THE STERN SHOW. SO THEN I TOLD MIKE THAT I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN STERN DOES HIS INFAMOUS “LESBIAN DATING GAME” SHOW AND THAT IT’S REALLY FUNNY TO SEE ALL THE LESBOS GET SO EXCITED TO HOOK UP WITH EACH OTHER!!! I THEN TOLD MATARAZZO THAT A FEW SHOWS AGO, I SAW AN ‘OLD LESBO BULL DYKE’ TYPE HOOK UP WITH A ‘YOUNG LIPSTICK LESBO’ AND THEY WERE GOING AT IT (MAKING OUT & DRY HUMPING EACHOTHER) LIKE THEY WERE GONNA START FUCKING EACHOTHER RIGHT THERE ON THE SHOW. I THEN SAID THAT STERN LOVED IT!! AT THAT MOMENT, MATARAZZO GOT REAL QUIET AND THEN LOOKED ME RIGHT IN MY FACE AND SAID ‘’THAT’S NOT FUCKING FUNNY AT ALL!!!” THEN MATARAZZO SAID, “PERSONALLY, I THINK IT’S WRONG FOR STERN TO PUT THAT SHIT ON HIS SHOW. IT’S DEGRADING TO LESBIAN WOMEN.” SO I SAID TO HIM, “BRO ARE YOU SERIOUS OR ARE YOU PLAYIN AROUND?” AND HE THEN SAID, “SUPPOSE YOUR SISTER WAS A LESBIAN. WOULD YOU WANT STERN TO MOCK YOUR SISTER LIKE THAT?” I SAID, ‘’WELL, MIKE. IF MY SISTER WAS A LESBO AND SHE WAS DUMB ENOUGH TO GO ON THE HOWARD STERN SHOW LOOKING FOR ‘LESBO LOVE,’ THEN SHE DESERVES WHAT SHE GETS!!!” MATARAZZO THEN CAME BACK AT ME AND SAID, ‘’WELL I DON’T FIND ANYTHING FUNNY ABOUT THAT SHIT.” I COULD TELL HE NOW WAS GETTING A LITTLE HOT UNDER THE COLLAR WHICH IN TURN MADE ME HYPER &CRAZY AND CAUSED ME TO ‘DRIVE ALL OVER THE ROAD’ WHILE TRYING TO ARGUE MY POINT. I KEPT LOOKING AT HIM WHILE WE WERE BOTH GOING BACK AND FORTH AT
EACH OTHER. FINALLY I SAID, ‘’OK, BRO. WHAT IF YOUR BROTHER HAD A HEAD INJURY AND THEN YOU SAW THAT SHOW WHERE STERN MOCKING PEOPLE WITH BAD HEAD INJURIES. WOULD YOU STILL THINK THAT SHOW WAS FUNNY? BECAUSE I DO NOT THINK IT’S FUNNY MOCKING SOMEONE WITH A HEAD INJURY.” WITH THAT SAID, MIKE WENT CRAZY SAYING, “MOCKING LESBIANS IS WORSE!!!” WE KEPT GOING BACK & FORTH KINDA FRIENDLY ARGUING, JUST TWO THICKHEADED ITALIAN GUYS WHO ARE BOTH VERY EMOTIONAL AND ANIMATED. I WAS LEANING OVER TOWARD MATARAZZO TRYING TO MAKE A POINT WHEN MATARAZZO AND SANDY BOTH SCREAMED AND AS I LOOKED UP, I WAS IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE WITH A PAIR OF HEADLIGHTS HEADED RIGHT FOR MY BRONCO! I QUICKLY SWERVED BACK INTO MY LANE AND MATARAZZO SAID HE WAS DONE TALKING TO ME UNTIL WE GOT TO THE DINER. SO I GUESS YOU COULD SAY I WON THAT ARGUMENT. THE SAME THING ONCE HAPPENED WITH LEE LABRADA AND JACKIE PAISLEY IN MY CAR, BUT THAT TIME LENNY HAD TO GRAB THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE I WAS LEANING OVER TALKING TO LABRADA (WHO WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT)
WHEN I SWERVED INTO THE OTHER LANE. LABRADA SCREAMED AND WAS SHITTING HIS PANTS AT MY DRIVING SKILLS. HEY, I’M FROM NEW YORK. *Wink* TRY DRIVING IN NEW YORK CITY WITH ALL THOSE FUCKING YELLOW CABS CUTTING YOU OFF. YOU LEARN TO DRIVE CRAZY YOURSELF REAL FAST. ANYWAY, MATARAZZO WAS A REAL “MAN’S MAN” TYPE OF GUY BUT I HAD HIM SHITTING HIMSELF IN MY BRONCO. IT WAS GREAT!!!! LATER ON THAT NIGHT (WHICH WAS JUST A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE ARNOLD), I SAW MATARAZZO DRINK A BEER & EAT TWO GIANT CHEESE BURGERS IN THE DINER. OOOPS! WHILE VINCE TAYLOR ATE TWO WHITE POWDERED DOUGHNUTS BEFORE WE EVEN ORDERED OUR MEALS. AHHH, FUN TIMES!!! R.I.P MIKE MATARAZZO. TILL NEXT TIME - FUCK OFF …GV

Hot Stufnfe Testostero
Potentiator TESTOSTERONE BUILDS MUSCLE One of the most crucial factors for success in the muscle building process is the hormone testosterone. This substance is normally produced in the healthy human body, although its amounts may vary widely between individuals. In fact, its production level can vary widely in the same individuals depending on such specific factors as age, illness, stress, diet, exercise. So important is testosterone to an exercise program that only small variations in serum (blood) levels can mean the difference between strong, well developed muscles or a flabby, smooth appearance.
MANY ATHLETES USE DRUGS TO BOOST TESTOSTERONE Unfortunately, many athletes and weightlifters are resorting to synthetic chemical testosterone sources (anabolic steroids, etc.), to improve their muscle and strength building programs. While significant short term results are undeniable, such practices can lead to serious health complications as well as personality alteration and extreme psychological dependency. For those athletes and weightlifters who do not wish to go the drug route, nutritional science has been relentlessly forging ahead with new and better alternatives. We are pleased to offer you one of the most advanced and powerful natural steroid alternatives – HOT STUFF. This product is a potent hormone igniter containing substances which help stimulate the natural testosterone levels of the body. Each serving of HOT STUFF is jammed packed with 40 grams of high quality whey and milk protein blended together with 6,000 milligrams of key testosterone boosters. Things like Tribulus, Fenugreek, Tongkat Ali, Horny Goat Weed, Muira Puama, Chrysin, Damiana, Macca, Nettle Root, Saw Palmetto, Ginseng and much more. HOT STUFF also features energy enhancers and workout boosters like Beta-Alanine, Creatine, Vitamin B-6, Guarana, Magnesium, Zinc, L-Carnitine and Rhodiola Rosea. Good ass time with a group of 17 of us (including Wycked Mike) packed up our trucks with every kind of gun you can imagine and some sick ass targets like watermelons, coconuts, carbonated soda, helium balloons and more. We drove out to the middle of nowhere and destroyed everything!
I am not wasting any more time with this nonsense. I have been ready to fight Prophet Muscle every fuckin’ day and like I said from the beginning, he would drag this out and find ways to not make it happen. He can bring his own referee or there doesn’t have to be one. We can get in the cage and lock the door. Give me a date, bro, and if not, then let’s both shut the fuck up and move on!

I brought 100 #ProphetPussy shirts to the gym and handed them out. Here are some members at Gold’s Gym who put them on right away to train! Let’s do our own thing and be the best we can be and there’s no reason to try and tear other people down.
At Venice Beach doing what we do! Killin’ it in ‘The Pit’ on a beautiful day with a bad ass group.
Had an opportunity to hang with Kai Greene during the 24 hours that I spent in New York in July. The things that he can do at 300 pounds is unbelievable! #MonstersDoExist
5% ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT– STEVE SHOESMITH
It’s pretty cool to be able to spread our lifestyle all around the world and having 5%ers who reside internationally be the messenger has been very effective. One of them is Steve Shoesmith of the United Kingdom. Here’s his story in his own words: I’ve been involved with 5% Nutrition and the boss Rich Piana from the beginning indirectly and always felt like a 5%er. Finally someone told the truth about the industry and steroids! I respect that the 5% way is a lifestyle and ethos which I believe in. I will always be a 5%er till the day I leave this world and hopefully will be in the gym until I am no longer here, as well. I am native Canadian by birth but moved to the UK over 20 years ago to work with the British Chippendale’s. In 1995, I had the honor of acting in the original “Judge Dredd” film and I trained with Sylvester Stallone every morning for six weeks. That’s when I got into bodybuilding seriously and have been in many movies due to the fact of my job – I am still a professional male stripper at the age of 47. After working out with Stallone, I wanted to do it every day and I’ve also competed 13 times from the amateur level straight through to the IFBB Euro Elite Championships. This part is hard for me but if I can help one person, I’ve done my job: About 14 years ago, I was diagnosed with bipolar or manic depression. Nothing major happened to set it off and the doctors said it was a chemical imbalance and medication can help and it does. For me, the gym helps a lot when I have the occasional bad days. So you guys that can relate to this – you’re not alone. MUSCLESPORTMAG.COM | 15

RAW FOOTAGE VIDEO AND WHY I DID IT
Lots of people wondered why I made the recent YouTube video of me injecting random substances on camera that went viral. Fact of the matter is no one has really seen what a day in life with an actual bodybuilder is like. All we see is meal prep, training and other errands like tanning, massages and other pointless things that are way less important than steroid use in the bodybuilding world. I think many steroid users are afraid of being judged, while a lot say they don’t come out publicly because of the legalities involved. I think that’s a bunch of horse shit. People just don’t want others to think down on them that they only ‘look the part’ because of certain drugs they use. The video obviously got tons of both negative and positive feedback, but I’ve never been one to frown at the hate. In fact, it’s made my career that much more successful because at the end of the day, it’s the truth

and people really want to know the dark side and what really goes on behind closed doors. And trust me, if there weren’t any legal issues, I’d go a lot further in my videos. But I go as far as I can without putting myself at risk.
time later, they reached out to me. At the time, I was a naive 22-year-old and jumped at a great opportunity because I loved their products and I had no issue promoting things I use that actually work.
WHY I LEFT BOSS SPORTS NUTRITION, US FUSION AND TRANSFORMIX PEPTIDES (SAME OWNERS) Lots of people saw my video explaining why I parted ways with these companies, but for those of you who didn’t, the bottom line was integrity. I will not stand for lies and dishonest people who are just out for money. It seems these days when people get a taste for money, they get very greedy and will do anything and everything for an extra buck. When I started out with Boss Sports Nutrition, they were a tiny company making very little money. In fact, they couldn’t afford rent at a gym so they got kicked out. A short
But as time went by, I kept catching them in lies and after a while I just got very sick of it. I took a HUGE pay cut by stepping away from them, but I refuse to deal with and have my name behind shady people. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I was receiving complaints about the oral research chemicals not performing the same as they
were in the past and how they were packaged differently. I was unaware of that and asked the owners what the hell was going on. They told me that the new supplier was cheaper and better. Obviously that wasn’t the case, as the
weird with me over the telephone, too. At that point and time, I knew I was done from that day forward. They said I would get my last month’s check and obviously that never happened. I then decided I would go into business with a good friend of mine that I trust where we will carry a select few products that I believe in with great prices and high quality. The money won’t be as good, but for me money isn’t happiness… not even remotely close to be honest. I’d rather know I’m helping people and as long as I can live a comfortable life, I am a one happy camper.
reviews went to shit and I immediately told them we had to fix the quality issue ASAP and they did not take me serious. If I’m a supposed part owner, you would think that they would fill me in on changing suppliers and this is what killed me. A few weeks after this incident, there was still zero change in suppliers and they started to get

How ironic is it that Muscular Development has decided to join forces with Generation Iron for video content for their sinking ship. Yep, that same Generation Iron where our managing editor hosts the extremely popular “Storytime with Gregg Valentino” video series. It wasn’t that long ago when both Steve Blechman and his since-fired online editor-in-chief Adina Zanoli said that Valentino was “irrelevant.” How’s that crow taste, Blechy and Adina? The morning began like so many others before it for Jerry Ward. He was working full time but had no money, was sick all of the time, found himself constantly lying and stealing and didn’t like it. He was addicted to heroin and had already experienced a bunch of futile attempts to clean up on his own and what would eventually become a failed marriage. “I went to an outpatient rehab, the Addiction Recovery Institute of Rhode Island, and it was there where I learned how deep my problem really went,” he recalls with a deep stare. Luckily for Ward, this decision was a life changer and ultimately a life saver for him. His story was not totally unique, starting out drinking alcohol at young age of 12, smoking marijuana a year later and then sneaking a few pain pills out of his father’s prescription bottle. “I heard that gave you a good buzz so I would take one and have a few beers,” he says. A high school teenager partying on weekends in this fashion may seem common, but Ward later escalated to using Nubain (an injectable pain killer that was popular with bodybuilders and other athletes in the 1990s), which he became addicted to in a short period of time. Once the supply dried up, he made the switch to OxyContin. But the doctors that he was getting the pills from began to get in trouble and that train was derailed, as well. Heroin became the easy attainable replacement. Luckily for Ward, he recognized that he needed to change his life in order to have one worth living.
THE COMPETETIVE EDGE Although he was using recreational drugs at the time, Ward was also working out and took it serious enough to don the posing trunks and get on a bodybuilding stage. He picked up a weight for the first time at 15 in 1991 as a punishment from a cousin for a high school suspension. “He made me lift all day and once that I felt a pump, I was hooked,” he remembers with a sheepish smile. Ward trained in his basement for approximately a year and then joined a gym, Rhode Island Hard Bodies. Two years later, he competed in the

ANBC and did so between 1993 and 1995. The following year, he began using anabolic steroids and competed in the NPC. But after a few years, Ward had the opportunity to try his hand at professional wrestling under the moniker Lucian Bagwell and put his bodybuilding career on hold. “There are still some videos of me as a wrestler floating around online,” he says with a laugh. In 2005, Ward returned to the NPC bodybuilding stage for nine more years but suffered a myriad of injuries along the way (tears in his pec, rotator cuff and biceps tendon), which added up and he decided to hang up his posing trunks. In 2015, Ward got the itch to compete again and decided to give the men’s physique division a try. “I won the Delmarva masters division and this year, I competed at the Team Universe, which was my first national level show,” he says. “I don’t know what the future holds for me but it has been great competing over the last 20 years.”
PUTTING HIMSELF OUT THERE The bodybuilding industry has undergone a transformation over the past few years where the IFBB pros have taken a backseat to the Internet personalities in terms of popularity. There is a litany of reasons for this, but the most obvious one is that the competitors have yet to grasp social media to put themselves out there as much as the others have. With that said, Ward (who is a Primeval Labs sponsored athlete) never expected to be one of those so-called YouTube sensations. He started a blog and it included a few videos that didn’t make much of an impact. But the Providence native posted one that was of the rant variety and it immediately caught a lot of people’s attention and his online following multiplied. “The 2013 Arnold Classic was the first time that complete strangers stopped me and asked to take a photo together,” he comments, “and
then I realized more people watched (the videos) than I originally thought. It was even bigger at that year’s Olympia and I’ve been on a steady incline ever since.”
THE SUPPLEMENT WORLD During that period of time, Ward was a part of 5% Nutrition and is a good friend of Rich Piana, who is the most recognizable of the Internet bodybuilders. “He (Piana) was making the company grow and I was one of the first people that he signed (as a sponsored athlete), so I suppose that I’m an OG 5%er,” Ward says with a laugh. “I was happy to be asked to be a part of the team and got the 5% tattoo that I’m very proud to have.
I just want to thank MuscleSport Magazine for giving me the opportunity to be one of their staff writers and now be the subject of a cover feature in a print publication, which has been a dream of mine since I was 17 years old. I also want to extend my gratitude to my family and friends who gave me the tough love treatment but did so to try and keep me out of trouble, Primeval Labs for their continued support and opportunities, my fiancĂŠ Erin (who will be my wife by the time this issue goes to press), who pushes me to be a better person every day in one way or another. And to all of you weight training maniacs out there. NEVER STOP! #GIFD
Rich helped boost my following and I’ve thanked him in person and publicly a number of times. In many ways, he and I are a lot alike.” Last year, Primeval Labs was transitioning from the SARMS industry to Andro-based supplements and were looking for a face for the company’s new direction. “They didn’t want a fake ass Photo Shopped dude who wasn’t real and I was looking to grow as a person and a brand,” Ward explains. “We went back and forth and realized that we were both aligned in our ideas and goals and they have been very good to me. I couldn’t be any happier.” Ward has many duties at Primeval Labs and he not only helps market their products, but also formulate them. He even has his own line with them and the first two products are Intracell17 and Xanix. “Their products are second to none, and that’s not just a slogan,” says Ward with all
seriousness. “They are higher dosed, have a better delivery system, include more product for the same price and have cutting edge stuff. “These guys pay attention to the customers and fans alike and have their finger on the pulse of what is going on.”
PART OF THE GAME Regardless of how good a certain supplement works, there is a huge difference between what their high ceiling mark is and what one can expect from using androgenic anabolic steroids. To put it bluntly, AAS use is commonplace in the bodybuilding and sports industries and that is even true for everyday average middle aged men on testosterone replacement therapy. One of the reasons why Ward has been so appealing to the
public is his honesty and he has never hidden the fact the he uses steroids. Added Ward, “I think that they are okay… if used right. In 20 years, I’ve personally never seen anyone I know harmed by them and I have no moral issues with them, either. My opinion is that the
medical community scared people with propaganda about Lyle Alzado and others. It makes no sense. I can buy cigarettes, booze, Advil and Tylenol – all which cause more problems than steroids – and women can change their bodies with hormones, implants, injections and whatever else, but if I take a cc of test, I’ll die? Come the fuck on, people. “But nowadays, doctors are prescribing testosterone for many things,” concluded Ward. “So in the future, it may not be as big a deal.” www.Bios3Training.com www.PrimevalLabs.com

Illicit Anabolic-Androgenic Steroid Use Gen Kanayama, M.D., PhD., James I. Hudson, M.D., Sc.D., and Harrison G. Pope, Jr, M.D., M.P.H. Horm Behav. 2010 Jun; 58(1): 111–121. The consensus of the above field studies is that some AAS users exhibit hypomanic or manic symptoms during AAS exposure, occasionally (albeit rarely) accompanied by psychotic symptoms. Some studies have also reported users showing depressive symptoms, occasionally associated with suicidality, usually during AAS withdrawal. However, it is impossible to estimate the prevalence of these syndromes in the overall population of illicit AAS users, because there is such wide
variation among the various studies. Some studies report relatively frequent and often severe pathology (Pope and Katz, 1988; Thiblin et al., 1999b), whereas others find little or even none (Bahrke et al., 1992). These differences
may be partially attributable to differences in the doses of AAS used, with more frequent symptoms in studies that included large numbers of high-dose AAS users (particularly those ingesting the equivalent of more than 1000 mg of testosterone per week; see discussions in (Pope and Brower, 2009; Pope and Katz, 2003). Differences in methods of selection and evaluation of participants also likely contributed to differences in the findings.
CONCLUSIONS
The evidence of the above laboratory studies, combined with the extensive experience of field studies, strongly suggests that high doses of AAS may indeed produce psychiatric effects, and that these effects cannot be fully explained by psychosocial factors. However, it is also clear that these effects are quite unpredictable and idiosyncratic: most illicit users, including even those ingesting high doses, exhibit little or no psychopathology, whereas a few demonstrate striking mood changes, aggression, and even violence in association with AAS use. This same idiosyncratic pattern has also been documented in animals; for example, most hamsters administered AAS display aggressiveness, but some show little behavioral change (Clark and Henderson, 2003; DeLeon et al., 2002; Melloni et al., 1997). In humans, there also appears to be an idiosyncratic association of depression with hypogonadism following AAS withdrawal. For example, in one laboratory study of pharmacologically induced hypogonadism, most men showed little or no depression, while

We’ve have all heard it before - ‘Roid Rage’ is bullshit. It’s not true. People say there is no evidence that roid rage exists and that guy who is acting like a crazy jerk known to be on steroids is just an ASSHOLE on steroids! Ok, I get it. But being the Doc, I feel obligated to do my research on what is really going on here. Everyone knows that I am the medical expert on the clinical side of anabolic/androgenic steroids (AAS) and that I take care of men who are using or have used AAS and are suffering. I’ve been doing this since 2003. My clinical interest and expertise lies within Anabolic Steroid Induced Hypogonadism (ASIH) and the cardiovascular affects resulting from AAS use. Of course, I am well versed regarding the psychiatric affects of AAS, but I have always stayed away from writing this particular article… for the fear of the unknown. Trying to understand so-called roid rage is a frustrating undertaking. From the equivocal findings of (usually) small observational and placebo studies, to popularized pejorative media accounts, and roid deniers on steroid websites, it’s clear that there is no consensus on the definition of this phenomenon or what causes it. The best one can do is provide a representative sample of these sources to see where, if at all, these converge. To prepare for this article, I spent hours reviewing the Evidenced-Based-Data on steroids and psychiatric events. Boy, was I amazed and, wow, how much I learned! I found tons of data, but became increasingly confused. There is definitely no slam dunk on this issue, as per the “experts” and I would assume it is because there is no obvious mechanism of action, no smoking gun, at least that we can find today. Here is one of the more ‘respectable’ reports that I found:

a few showed marked depressive symptoms (Schmidt et al., 2004). Although the nonuniform nature of AAS psychological effects, both at physiologic doses (Kanayama et al., 2007a; Rubinow and Schmidt, 1996) and at supraphysiologic doses (Pope and Brower, 2009), has long been acknowledged, its mechanism is still unclear. Preliminary findings in animals (Clark and Henderson, 2003; DeLeon et al., 2002; Fischer et al., 2007; Grimes and Melloni, 2006) and humans (Daly, 2001; Daly et al., 2003; Daly et al., 2001) have implicated a variety of possible associations with brain neurochemistry and hormonal levels, with several studies suggesting that serotonergic effects may play a key role. One thing I can definitely agree with is that when people take large doses of AAS and certain types of AAS, like Tren (aka Devil’s Juice), their personalities can change. No experienced steroid user will argue this. And the marked depression that can follow abrupt discontinuation of AAS is 100% for real! After more than a decade in the business, I can vouch for this. When I analyze all of the studies of roid rage that I have read, I noticed a number of common themes. It seems almost universal that the authors differentiate frank psychosis vs. impulse control and Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) vs. AAS use. And unlike studies where there are clear measurable variables and end points, e.g. blood pressure, lipid values,
hemoglobin and kidney function, determining a cause-effect series of events regarding AAS use and psychiatric issues is onerous. Nonetheless, when discussing roid rage, one has to consider the perspective of who is being questioned. It is clear that when AAS users are asked about roid rage, they get defensive and minimize its relevance vs. non-AAS users who tend to assert that such a state exists, without adequate scientific support.
WHAT TO THINK?
When I draw from my professional experiences, I would say that it is true that “impulse control” is the psychiatric feature that is affected by AAS use and that there is no organic or tangible changes that occur secondary to AAS use, at least that can be quantified. For whatever it is worth, the accounts of roid rage that have resulted in serious harm pale when one considers that there are millions of people actively using AAS. Is this impulse control regulation truly pathologic and is it reproducible by AAS use? What are the mechanisms-of-action? We clearly see alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription drugs and even caffeine being implicated in aggressive behavior, poor impulse control and even death. Some of these are accepted agents in our American culture and we have developed a sense of ‘personal self-regulation’ and responsibility when it comes to dealing with these scenarios.
Will AAS use and roid rage fall into such pedestrian means? That is yet to be known, I can tell you this - anyone who uses AAS knows that they can experience occasional emotional lability, but for the most part, the great majority AAS users experience a sense of wellbeing, hence the reason why they stay on these agents for extended periods. I am not giving AAS use a blessing; I am simply stating the anecdotal truth. I have heard many AAS users tell me in confidence that they realize that they have to be careful with their impulse control when on AAS, especially when they are on high doses and with certain types. It seems that AAS users admit that roid rage CAN be real, but most of them are able to possess the self-control to be cool. This is an amazing fact! Maybe the better question is; with the known emotional side effects of AAS, why would someone compensate for such disability and what mechanism drives them to do so? This seems more likely to help heal any potential suffering rather than generate arguments between those who see this topic from two very different vantage points. Therefore, as a scientist, I would have to say, that smoking gun for AAS related roid rage is at-large and that crazy guy on gear is thus AN ASSHOLE ON STEROIDS! Stay Strong, Healthy and Sane! Sharon Bruneau was never anything approaching ugly; far from it. But when this former model became a bodybuilding swan, she found herself being criticized by many for not remaining a duck. And she found this at times very difficult to deal with. It is hard for many to realize that female bodybuilding only got started in the late 1970s. The competitors back at the beginning were not very big and contests were more about definition than muscularity. But within a few years, the women were getting bigger and looked more like what we think of today as actual bodybuilders. Not as big and muscular as the biggest today, but developed enough that unfortunately a lot of people with rigid ideas regarding the nature of the female body, femininity and gender identity began to object. Before Lenda Murray came along and started winning Ms. Olympia titles in 1990, the face of female bodybuilding was Cory Everson, who was certainly an amazing Amazon but was also blonde, pretty and conventional looking enough to be cast in several feature films and television programs. Everson was probably the last female bodybuilding champion to enjoy virtually universal public acceptance by the mainstream public… many of whom said they didn’t really like female bodybuilders, but did like her. Enter Sharon Bruneau, a long and lean model who started gym training to gain weight after an illness and discovered she had the genetics for muscle and ended up becoming a professional bodybuilder. Sharon Bruneau - a Canadian Metis Native American (or whichever PC term you prefer), considered by many to be the ideal combination of facial and physical beauty, shapely muscle and exotic sex appeal. Sharon Bruneau - who had such long proportions she could not develop the full
sweeping muscles required to win top pro championships using the standards of bodybuilding competition - but whose sexy and exotic look was preferred by many fans over the women actually winning these titles. In an age where figure competitors look almost like 1980s bodybuilders, 40 | MUSCLESPORTMAG.COM
it is difficult to imagine the amount of negativity somebody so apparently sexy and attractive as Bruneau encountered almost 20 years ago when she first began to develop a lot of muscles and muscularity. “I had been a fashion model,” Bruneau recalls. “I was tall and slender and used to getting a lot of complimentary attention, so it disturbed me when I began getting negative reactions to my body. I became very self-conscious when I started hearing comments like ‘Why do you want to look like a man?’ It was pretty much a shock.” This was Vancouver, Canada around 1990. Bruneau was working at a club when she began to hear nasty and critical remarks about her growing muscles, especially the size of her arms. When she went out on calls as a model, Bruneau found herself being increasingly rejected for being too big. And this was before she created a body developed enough to allow her to become an IFBB pro. As a result of all this, Bruneau became increasingly insecure and ambivalent about her muscular development. She loved working out and seeing the size and shape of her muscles evolve, to diet for definition and muscularity and to follow in the footsteps of the great women bodybuilders who had inspired her. But she also became so highly conscious of the negative reactions she was getting that she started wearing clothing that covered up her body - especially her arms - and became reluctant to go to the beach wearing a bikini. But negative was quickly surpassed by positive as Bruneau found herself the object of lots of praise and even adoration from female physique fans all over the world as she became an increasingly famous bodybuilder and major celebrity in the fitness world. “A lot of good things happened to me when I started competing,” says Bruneau. “I won the 1991 IFBB North American Championships and was able to turn pro. Joe Weider invited me to do numerous photo shoots and published me on covers and in layouts in Muscle & Fitness and Flex. I was able to earn a living as a pro bodybuilder, travel all over the world and developed a lot of very loyal and supportive fans. I had come a long way from the skinny girl who took up weight training in order to recover from the weight loss that resulted from a bout of pneumonia.” Bruneau placed a respectable top 10 in most pro contests and as high as fourth at the Ms. International. But as discussed above, she continued to be at a disadvantage against the other pros for the very reason that in the opinion of many fans, she was the sexiest of competitors. Her beautiful, long lines and aesthetic shape did not allow for the fullness and sweep of muscle that characterized physiques like that of competitors such as Lenda Murray.
“
Ironically, it was her outstanding aesthetics that limited her ability to major pro titles. But as the poet Robert Burns wrote, ‘we do not see ourselves as others see us.’ Many of Bruneau’s fans loved the fact that she had a bodybuilder’s muscle combined with a model’s structure. Nobody who appreciated the aesthetically muscular female body thought she was ‘too big’ or too muscular. Others saw her as being the farthest thing possible from looking masculine. Her blend of beauty, sex appeal, muscle and exotic looks was considered uniquely wonderful. The world saw Bruneau as a glorious swan. But in her deepest thoughts, there remained the suspicion that she might actually really be the Ugly Duckling some had accused her of when she first got into muscle building. Of course, Sharon knew this wasn’t true. But while she enjoyed her fame and support from Weider and her fans, she continued to remain somewhat ambivalent about her muscular body. “I look back on the photos I did during my pro bodybuilding career and I have to wonder what the hell I was thinking,” she admits. “I love the way my body looked. But you have to remember how much opposition there was in those days to bodybuilding for women… even from within the IFBB.” Actually, you don’t have to go that far back. After all, if the IFBB totally supported female bodybuilding today, there would still be Ms. Olympia and Ms. International bodybuilding championships. She admits that this was a major reason her career as a bodybuilder was so relatively short. And it is also the reason why a lot of pro bodybuilding women quit competing so much earlier than the men do. It is hard to keep going with so much negativity coming from boyfriends, husbands, friends and the federations that are supposed to be looking out for them. So after becoming a pro bodybuilder in 1991, Bruneau switched briefly to fitness in 1995, but that proved to be a dead end. So she decided to quit competition and move on to other things. Those ‘other things’ included a very successful career as a movie stunt performer. There are many movies over the past 10 years or so when the female star you see crashing a car or jumping off a building is actually Bruneau. This has been a dangerous occupation but somehow she emerged in relatively good health. “There was one time,” she explains, “ where I was supposed to bail out of a moving car. But I got hung up and ended up having the car run over my leg! Thankfully, there was no damage except some bruising. Like other performers who do stunts, I had a lot of close calls but thankfully I’m still in one piece.” But after quitting bodybuilding, Bruneau also decided to return to modeling. Once she slimmed down to something like her former model size, she began doing a number of photo shoots which proved she was still an excellent model and highly photogenic. She has continued to model and is available for photo bookings and looks forward to talking to any photographers, publications and art directors who might be interested. After years in California, Bruneau has returned to Canada to help nurse her father through a serious illness. She has gotten back into working out and is doing a lot of personal training in the Vancouver area and has quickly acquired a surprising number of clients. After being off the scene for a while, she was surprised at how her reputation perseveres and how many still remember and admire her. “I enjoy helping other people to transform their bodies,” concludes Bruneau. “Especially women. I know there is still a lot of controversy about female muscle. But at the same time, it has become firmly established in our culture, unlike when I first began. The world is now full of fitness and figure competitors who look a lot like bodybuilders used to look. There are thousands of fitness models that are conventionally beautiful but enjoy showing off the abs, hard butts and shapely delts and biceps. The world of female muscle has certainly changed since the early 1990s.” So Sharon Bruneau is neither gone nor forgotten. The legend continues - and so does the amazing woman who created it.

The 10-year NFL veteran has always been a workout warrior and was clearly in better shape than anyone else in the five different locker rooms that he was a part of during his career. Yes, even as a punter. He had been weight training long before he turned professional, but still couldn’t make vast improvements on his arms. “For 19 years, I had tried every single arm training routine I could find,” said Weatherford. “I would try heavy weight, light weight, high reps, drop sets, giant sets…training biceps with back, chest or own their own day. “But I would constantly hit plateaus in my arm training,” he continued. “I couldn’t get them to increase in size or strength the way (that) I really wanted them to.” Following a decade of success playing for the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and New York Giants (with whom he won a Super Bowl with), the Crown Point, Indiana native has now switched gears from the gridiron to a career in both the media and fitness industries. And he is also using this opportunity to make arm training his top priority. Weatherford contacted a bunch of his friends from the fitness industry and used their advice, pairing it with what he had learned over the years and put together a 12-week training and nutrition program that focused on growing his arms once and for all. “I was still training all (the) other body parts,” recalled Weatherford, “but arms were my top priority.” 50 | MUSCLESPORTMAG.COM

Weatherford’s arm measurements were 16.75” at the outset of the program. He began sharing his weekly workouts all across his social media platforms and his followers began to take notice of his gains, especially in the arms. At the four-week mark, Weatherford’s strength improved immensely and that encouraged him even more. After Week 9, the Illinois product’s arm growth had become blatantly obvious and that gave him a noble idea – he could turn this into an eBook and help out people like himself who kept hitting that proverbial wall when it comes to building up massive guns. Enter Michael Martocci, an entrepreneur and friend of Weatherford’s who agreed that this was an opportunity to work together on a project that has the chance to make a major impact on the fitness industry. Weatherford penned this from personal experience, doing, as he put it, “every single exercise of every single workout.” They titled it #ARMageddon and it consists of a six-day routine that includes a Mass Arm Day (Monday) and a High-Volume Arm Day (Friday). “Having two full days between arm training is going to be essential,” explained Weatherford. “I never want this program to negatively affect the other training days you have for the other muscle groups. After one of my arm training days, your triceps are going to be extremely fatigued and attempting to train them the next day will not only ruin your chest workout, you’ll also be putting yourself in (a) situation with a much higher risk of injury. “The same goes for trying to train back after the second arms day. To many, it probably seems bodybuilding for women has been around for a very long time. If you are under 30, that is perfectly understandable. But in historic perspective the fact is that women developing their muscles for primarily aesthetic purposes is still a very new phenomenon, something “Pumping Iron” author Charles Gaines called “a new archetype” - never before seen in any culture anywhere in all of history. Bodybuilding for men has been around officially since 1940. So the men have had many decades to develop to current levels. But when the first modern female bodybuilding contests were held starting in the 1970s, the competitors had been training seriously for only a very few years. Since it takes a lot of time to develop a really serious bodybuilding physique, the first modern female bodybuilders were not very big. So women’s bodybuilding back then was more about dieting and doing cardio for maximum definition rather than building big muscles. As a result, the mainstream and the bodybuilding federations, were able to view these small but defined women as “cute” and even sexy. Lisa Lyon was featured in Playboy and booked on television shows. Rachel McLish won the first Ms. Olympia (called “Miss Olympia”) in 1980 and got to star in movies. Corey Everson was featured in a TV exercise series. But when genetically gifted individuals train with weights over a period of time, it is inevitable that they become bigger and more muscular. So while the sport
56 | MUSCLESPORTMAG.COM
had McLish as its champion in 1980, in a short time, the Ms. Olympia was won by Everson (who was considerably bigger) and then the even-larger Lenda Murray, as well other big and muscular competitors like Bev Francis. At that point, many who found the first female bodybuilders attractive were turned off as women bodybuilders began to evolve to look more like… well… bodybuilders. While everybody lovers kitten, not everybody like cats!
Because the whole idea of women developing sculptured muscles is so new, female bodybuilders have had a disrupting effect on the culture. Bodybuilding is about the extreme because that’s the point of the effort - the extreme aesthetic development of muscles. In the same way, weightlifters try to lift extreme weights and race drivers try to achieve extreme speeds. But the aesthetics part of the definition is crucial. It is like opera, which is both about strong, powerful singing plus the beauty of the voice, as well. There are a lot of athletes with big, powerful muscles but not with the symmetry, proportion, shape and definition you see in first rate bodybuilders. Combining muscle and beauty, bodybuilding is the grand opera of the human physique.
But whenever you are dealing with women and women’s bodies, there is also the matter of sexual attractiveness to consider. Humans are sexual beings and as Freud pointed out, the energy of “libido” is always a consideration. Any sexual interest in something too far from the conventional or mainstream is almost always viewed as suspect. Attraction to that which is too extreme is often considered deviant or a fetish. This has been the case with women who have aesthetically developed muscles. This phenomenon is still so new (and to many still quite shocking) that men - and women who find this kind of body attractive are often subject to criticism. But there has been sexual interest in the bodies of athletic females for a long time - just not women as muscular as modern female bodybuilders. Our culture has long admired the shapely and muscular legs of female dancers. A fit and fabulous swimmer like Esther Williams became a major movie star. The bodies of a wide range of women athletes - from gymnasts and sprinters to basketball and volleyball players - have been the subject of a great deal of media coverage. Playboy ran a layout featuring women of the Olympics. Pamela Anderson, one of the sex icons of modern times, developed her body with years of competitive gymnastics as a young girl and teenager. Women did not become hyper-muscular in the past because they didn’t try to be and didn’t realize this was possible. Females are
able to do a lot of things nowadays they were discouraged from or forbidden to in the past. But the nature of muscle is that it responds to physical training whether you are male or female, in ancient Rome or working as a secretary in Des Moines. If Cleopatra had access to a personal trainer who understood how bodybuilding works, she could have developed a much more fit and muscular physique. Nowadays, there are female bodybuilders, some of them very muscular and a number with extremely shapely and attractive bodies. In addition, there are lots of women who do bodybuilding training and diet but with other goals in mind - such as fitness, figure, physique and fit bikini. These women (representing the light opera of the body?) are very muscular and defined compared to the standard of a few decades ago, even compared to the average female body of today. So while their physiques are less extreme, the aesthetic and sexual appeal is much the same. Make no mistake: Competitors in categories other than bodybuilding are bodybuilders nonetheless, and train with great intensity and diet with tremendous discipline. But they use the same training and diet systems in order to compete in what are really specialized beauty contests rather than an actual sport.
It has always been the case where aesthetic female muscle is concerned that, whatever the current state-of-the-art might be, critics tend to point to the level of development a few years ago as

an ideal standard. But the standard they praise was also considered “too much” back in the day. And a few years from now, whatever bodybuilders look like today will be looked at nostalgically as the aesthetic ideal. This process has always been a sliding scale. We get used to extremes and in hindsight tend to view them with more acceptance and affection. Not only that, but many more find extreme female muscle beautiful, attractive and sexually provocative than are willing to admit it. You could call them “closet muscle lovers.” Because this kind of body is still new and a subject of controversy, it is fairly common to find people embarrassed by their attraction to it. But as time goes on and aesthetic female muscle becomes more embedded in the culture, this will not be the case to the same degree.
Once attraction to female bodybuilders becomes more acceptable, this will be just another choice that people can make in terms of what turns them on: Tall, short, big or small breasts, blonde or brunette, young or mature, light skin or dark. There is no accounting for taste or for what pulls your trigger when it comes to sex. Erotic sensibilities are one of the most complex of human feelings and consciousness. And in time the provocative nature of sexy female muscle will be just another aspect of this complex and complicated spectrum of our erotic nature. But if you do find this kind of body to be attractive, you are likely to see even better and more extreme examples as time goes on. So you can look forward to an exciting future.

CONTEST NOTES: 2015 NPC Winter Classic-3rd in the Men’s Open, 1st in Masters over 35, 2nd in Novice
The road hasn’t always been easy for Sebastian Oyegun. Sure, one can look at his rise in the NPC Men’s Physique ranks, winning two overalls, one Masters Overall and placing third at the prestigious North Americans, barely missing that illustrious IFBB Pro Card. But that is all the more impressive when you learn that he returned home less than two years ago after serving an 18-month federal prison sentence at Edgefield in South Carolina for misuse of government funds. Oyegun is a 14-year Army veteran, former Chief Warrant Officer 2 and he found himself faced with adversity back in 62 | MUSCLESPORTMAG.COM
2010. He got caught up in fraud scheme where he was illegally obtaining government supplies and selling them on the side to vendors. This went on for about a year until his conscience caught up with him. He didn’t run from his troubles; he faced them like a man. For a while, he thought his life was over. His weight ballooned to 265 pounds, he stopped training, stopped caring about all the things that made him an exceptional husband, father and community figure. He was facing a maximum of 10 years, but through hard work and his great work ethic as a soldier and community ties, Oyegun was only sentenced to 30 months, in
which he served roughly 18-to20. Being a man of faith, he dug himself out of rut through the help of Pastor Robert, his wife TaShara, as well as his friends and coaches in the South Orlando Community. Oyegun, 36, has deep community ties in Orlando, being a great coach and mentor to the youths in his area. Oyegun has also started his fitness brand, STS Fitness. His training is a complete mixture of prison style, old school dumbbells and barbells and some modern methods mixed in. He believes in keeping it simple. For what it’s worth, that’s what most old school bodybuilders did. They didn’t have all the new fancy

equipment you see nowadays in most big box gyms. Oyegun also offers something unique to his clients - he trains with most of them. Now, of course he may not do every set, every rep, but he believes that offering clients a knowledgeable workout partner - someone who will put their body through the same exercises that they will go through - offers them, hope, motivation and inspiration. These day, you can catch Oyegun training in an old school gym called Gym Rat Boxing and Fitness, Power Strength Gym (an Orlando Power House facility with more equipment then you can imagine) or even Planet Fitness.

SPORTS DEN BRYCE HARPER, MIKE TROUT
DIAMONDSROUGH
IN THE
SLUGGERS HARPER AND TROUT HIT THE OFFSEASON HARD | BY JOE PIETARO
It is said that the most difficult act in all of sports is to put a baseball bat on a well-pitched ball. Although that may be true, there are some players in the today’s game that can actually make it look easy. One of them is Bryce Harper, the 23-year-old slugging outfielder of the Washington Nationals. Since being drafted first overall in 2010, he has been anointed as the next great player and hasn’t disappointed. Harper won the 2012 National League Rookie of the Year Award and was named the National League’s Most Valuable Player three years later. Much of his success on the field is because of the work put in at the gym and the consistency of a strong offseason workout schedule. On certain days, the 6’3”, 215-pounder will perform heavy compound movements such as power cleans, squats and dumbbell bench presses. And then there are days that are filled with super sets for both push and pull muscle groups. It is stunning to think that it was only a short time ago that baseball players were discouraged to train in this fashion and how much things have changed since then, something not lost on Brady Anderson. “I was criticized for lifting weights early in my career and actually told not to,” the former centerfielder and current Vice President of Baseball Operations of the Baltimore Orioles says. “When I was a rookie with the Boston Red Sox in 1988, we didn’t have a full time strength and conditioning coach – and many teams didn’t either. We didn’t even have a gym.” Another young outfielder lighting it up with his bat, glove and workout routine is Mike Trout, 25, of the Los Angeles Angels, who was the recipient of the top rookie award in the American League in 2012 when he had both a high batting average (.326) and production numbers (30 home runs, 27 doubles, 83 RBI and led the ‘Junior Circuit’ in both runs scored with 129 and stolen bases with 49). Two seasons later, Trout won the American League MVP Award. He, too, has a busy offseason hitting the weights. “During the year, I like to maintain my strength and not work out with too much weight,” he said on a training video

from one of his sponsors, Eastbay. “A lot of band work, med ball, ab [sic] workouts. (But) in the offseason, it’s mainly heavy weight and trying to build that strength up for the year. “You want to wake up that next day hardly moving,” Trout continued. “So you can tell yourself that you actually did something.” Five to seven days a week and approximately an hour and a half for each workout is the schedule that Trout and his trainer Dan Richter, ATC, PES, CES, followed in the offseason and what they do is broken up with a variety that includes agility, speed training and heavy lifting. “You (need) to have good footwork, getting that first step,” Trout said. “Good instincts – that’s big for me. Good speed, obviously (as a) centerfielder, you have to cover some ground.” “He’s not a lean and lanky type,” continued Richter, who has been Trout’s personal trainer for a number of years and was also his high school athletic trainer. “He has a big natural frame.” To work on Trout’s upper body, they performed the traditional exercises such as presses and cleans, but also implemented some variations to keep things interesting. “We mixed it up with some medicine ball slams, battle ropes and an entire series of push-ups that included incline and decline. “To help Mike’s balance and bring up his weaker side, he did one-arm dumbbell presses for shoulders and chest,” said Richter. “He used the same amount of weight for each arm, but he had to catch up with the reps.” To work the lower body, Trout did deadlifts, one-leg Bulgarian squats, kettle bell lunges, box jumps with added step ups amongst others. The key movements for a hitter that Richter had Trout do were core based and included planks, medicine ball tosses and rotations from a hitter’s stance simulating a swing.
SCHEDULE *If a sixth or seventh day were added, they were of the tune-up variety and various exercises were repeated from earlier in the week.

CANNIBAL FAR FROM A BODYBUILDER

CANNIBAL FAR FROM A BODYBUILDER Bodybuilders get a bum rap in the mainstream media enough so there is no need to try and pin a fuckin’ cannibal as one in a national news story. In August, a 19-year-old committed a horrible double murder of a Florida couple and also stabbed a Good Samaritan who came to their aid. The wackjob FSU student bit off part of the husband’s face and was allegedly using the hallucinogenic drug flakka.
Guys who juice don’t stab strangers to death and try to eat their faces Judging by the YouTube video Austin Harrouff posted a few days before his savage rampage, he was anything but a bodybuilder. The kid

was soft as dog shit melting in the sun and actually had the balls to say, “I no longer want to follow Arnold or any other bodybuilder; I want to follow myself. I want to learn from other bodybuilders, but I just know that they’re not me. I don’t need drugs. Do you think that steroids are natural? I think that steroids really aren’t for me.” Last we checked, guys who juice don’t stab strangers to death and try to eat their faces. So Harrouff apparently decided on the wrong drug to use. NFL HAS IT ALL ASS BACKWARDS Hats – or better yet, helmets – off to the entire Dallas Cowboys franchise for honoring the five police officers who were gunned down in cold blood in January during a Black Lives Matter protest in downtown Dallas. “America’s Team” opened training camp by inviting family members of the officers and city officials and doing a symbolic walk on to the field with their arms linked with players and coaches. The ‘Boys also wore a round helmet sticker commemorating the
events emblazed with, “Arm in Arm.” But the NFL threw cold water on it all by informing the organization that they could not wear the decal during games – preseason included – because it would constitute a uniform violation. This is a league that remained silent when five then-St. Louis Rams players made a statement by doing the since-disproven ‘hands up, don’t shoot’ gesture during pre-game introductions in 2014 and had Beyoncé’ perform a Black Panthers tribute during the halftime show of Super Bowl 50. Considering all of the horrendous press that the league receives for the continuous criminal behavior of a large number of players, it would seem like a breath of fresh air to quell some of the anti-police rhetoric with a show of respect and solidarity. Commissioner Roger Goodell dropped the ball big time on this one. TESTOSTERONE, VIAGRA, MEN AND WOMEN Here’s a little tip to you fortysomethings out there: testosterone will work better than Viagra in men but don’t discard the little blue pills just yet…give them to your wives! Hear us out for minute before turning the page. It’s no secret that middle aged men who are on Testosterone Replacement Therapy have an increased libido as one of the many positive side effects. You have to be in the mood to fuck and that’s what test does. Viagra, on the other hand, will only give you a massive hard-on. But if you are not there mentally, it’s not the same. But the same holds true for women, who can also be prescribed TRT but in smaller doses than their male counterparts. That will also enhance their libido and if Sildenafil (the drug in Viagra) is also

Germany five weeks after the gala event in Las Vegas. The Arnold Classic in Ohio has been considered the second most prestigious show on the IFBB calendar and still is. But therein lies a similar quandary with the growth of it every year to now include a total of six shows on six different continents. Will the Olympia go the way of the Arnold and multiply? And if so, what will that mean to its significance? Going after an international audience is all well and good, but there are other ways to do so besides cheapening the Olympia name. The first option would be to move the Olympia around every year like it used to be. Las Vegas is a great town, but there are plenty of others that would put on just as good if not a better show. Another possibility would be to bring back the Grand Prix Series or its equivalent. A series of shows close together throughout a particular area so that the top names can stay in shape and compete more than once.

Studies conducted have showed that women using it have had better lubrication and orgasms. Also, because the drug increases blood flow to the penis in men, it does the same for the clitoris in women, increasing the sensitivity and fullness. Your wife may be a squirter, after all! WATERING DOWN THE OLYMPIA The Mr. Olympia is called the ‘Super Bowl of bodybuilding’ and has been the sport’s most prestigious contest since the inaugural show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1965. The champion is crowned and he is considered the best in the world, regardless if that is the only show he competes in throughout the 12 months. So to add another show with the ‘Olympia’ moniker would seem out of place, but that is exactly what the IFBB has done with the Mr. Olympia Europe in
