Do you want to get rid of all of the paper note communication to providers? It can be done, give the Inter-‐Provider Messaging tool a try! Presenter: Angie Box Organization: Great River Health Systems, West Burlington, Iowa Abstract: Great River Medical Center has been LIVE with PCS documentation with initial phases beginning in 2001. The organization recently took the 5.65 PP21 update on January 18, 2012. Providers and clinicians have longed for a way to get rid of paper note communication clipped or taped to the paper medical record. With our continued work towards a paperless record we have now found we have to have a solution for the paper notes. The organization is currently trialing the Inter-‐Provider Messaging functionality via the PCS Status Board and Physician Desktop routines. A demonstration of set up and how the process works will be given in the C/S 5.65 test ring. Angie Box BSN, RN Supervisor of Nursing Informatics is employed at Great River Health Systems, West Burlington, IA. In her eleven years of working with MEDITECH, her focus has been primarily on PCS implementation, maintenance and working with the EMR module. She coordinated the BMV/eMAR project implemented house wide in 2008 and the implementation of electronic nursing documentation in the EDM module with automatic billing. Involvement in these projects has led to exposure to the PHA and BAR modules also. PCS Downtime Forms from the Data Repository Presenter: Helena Hamilton Organization: Natividad Medical Center, Salinas, California Abstract: This presentation describes a method for creating forms to be used by nurses in the event of a PCS downtime. The process involves three steps: 1. Querying SQL to pull PCS dictionary data (assessments, labels, queries, group responses, and elements) from the Data Repository.
2. Using Excel to open Microsoft Word, and instantiate a new Word document. 3. Using Excel to write to Microsoft Word, generating forms based on the dictionary data pulled from the Data Repository. The benefits of this method include: • Forms exactly match the assessments in PCS, thus facilitating easier data entry after the downtime. • Forms are based on the latest updates to PCS (Data Repository is refreshed frequently). • Forms take about 5 minutes to generate, once the SQL query and VBA code are written. • Forms can be refreshed without IT assistance (once query and code are written). The presentation includes a live demonstration. Helena Hamilton is a Clinical Informaticist for Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California. In this role, she managed the implementation of MEDITECH’s Patient Care System, BMV/eMAR, and the Physician Desktop. Helena has worked in the clinical IT field since 1995, for a variety of health care organizations. Most recently, she served as the Director of New Applications Development for Hill Physicians Medical Group, an IPA of 3000 physicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. Helena spent seven years as an Application Development Manager for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), where she managed a team of developers and led health care informatics and performance measurement projects. Helena has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. She is also a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD on .NET), a certified HIPAA Security Specialist, and a PMI-‐certified Project Management.. PCS JAM Session topics: • IV spreadsheet – Has anyone implemented successfully? • 5.65 enhancements in PCS such as repeatable occurrence assessment collapsing and annotated images will be topics for discussion. • What is going on in your organization with PCS?

SCA -‐ Scanning & Archiving Peer Group Leader: Brian Nelligan Organization: Humber River Regional Hospital, Weston, Ontario SCA – Where Did it All Go Wrong (and Where Did it Go Right)? Presenter: Brian Nelligan Organization: Humber River Regional Hospital, Weston, Ontario Abstract: We will take a look at SCA in both the Magic and C/S worlds. We will discuss what is wrong or “working as designed”, but still not right in both worlds; what you will get in the MEDITECH 6 world, and what you will miss from the Magic world once you jump over. We need your help to push forward with ideas on how to work around the “working as designed” – maybe some of you have DTSs that have fixed or enhanced SCA in a way that would benefit others. So let’s all sit down and discuss SCA and see how it can make providing healthcare a bit easier or at least give the user one place to look for information on a patient.
