THE OPERA THEATRE ENSEMBLE The Pacific Opera Theatre is the Conservatory’s resident student opera ensemble. The program boasts a long history of successfully training singers for the professional arena. Dedicated to the training of strong singer-actors, the curriculum includes an intensive acting course of study which focuses on the Michael Chekhov technique. Productions performed by the student opera company has been recognized regularly by the National Opera Association and the Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival. Of particular note, was the inclusion of the Pacific Opera Theatre’s production of La Cenerentola in the 2001 Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival’s national event in Washington, DC; this was the first opera to be included in the national festival. Additional works recognized by KC-ACTF include Falsettoland, Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill and the west coast premiere of Glen Roven’s Heart’s Desire. Work recognized by the National Opera Association include La Cenerentola, Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and more recently Dido and Aeneas.
