ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES Scottie W. Wright '98 received his bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music where he studied with Donald DaGrade. He earned his master’s degree in saxophone performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Gary Louie and Christopher Ford. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota where he studied under Eugene Rousseau and taught saxophone as Rousseau’s graduate assistant. Wright has played under the batons of Valery Gergiev, Dmitri Liss, Leon Botstein, Mark Russell Smith, and Hajime Teri Murai, and in venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Hermitage, Mariinsky Theatre, Alice Tully Hall, and Tanglewood. Wright is a winner of University of the Pacific’s Concerto Competition, and has reached the final or semifinal rounds of the Carmel, Coleman, and Fischoff chamber music competitions. Wright’s previous teaching engagements include masterclasses at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and International Saxophone Academy, as well as multiple lectures at NASA conferences. He has premiered new pieces at Columbia University in New York City and Studio Z in St. Paul, Minnesota. His other notable performances include a recital as part of the St. Mark’s Music Series at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis, a performance of David Kechly’s Valencia: Iberian Musings for marimba and saxophone quartet with the Quadrivium Saxophone Quartet and Gordon Stout for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Engine 408 series, and a performance of John Cage’s Ocean for the Walker Art Center and Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Wright is an adjunct associate professor at Ocean County College in New Jersey and runs a private studio in Long Valley, New Jersey. His recent publications include Screech-o-Nomics or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Altissimo; Screech Supplemental Material; Beginner and Intermediate Scales for the Saxophone; and Advanced Scales for the Saxophone: Major Scales Basic Six Plus Upward and Downward Intervals.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES Linli Wang '14 Wang received her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from University of the Pacific and Master of Music degree in collaborative piano from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Wang is a pianist and educator in the San Francisco Bay Area. She currently serves as a pianist at the San Francisco Ballet and Berkeley Ballet Theater, a faculty member at the Crowden Music Center and Pleasanton Academy of Music, and the music director at the Starr King Unitarian Universalist Church. As a pianist, Wang has extensive experience in collaborating with fellow musicians and artists and enjoys learning a wide variety of repertoire. Her prior engagements include serving as a ballet pianist at the San Francisco Opera and Alonzo King LINES Ballet, as well as staff accompanist at University of the Pacific, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Stockton Chorale, and Modesto Symphony Orchestra Chorus. As an educator, Wang enjoys working with students of all ages. With patience and positivity, she fosters a safe learning environment to encourage curiosity, empathy, creativity, and artistry at every stage of students’ musical lives. Her teaching is greatly influenced by her wonderful teachers and mentors, including Jiasheng Zhou, Frank Wiens, Rex Cooper, Sonia Leong, John Cozza, and Andrew Altenbach.
