Musica Vitae presenterar, som det latinska namnet anger, Livets Musik till sin publik. Med en repertoar som sträcker sig över tre sekel är det den nyskrivna musiken och de spännande kombinationerna som mer än något annat placerat orkestern på den internationella arenan. Orkestern samarbetar ständigt med ledande solister och musikaliska ledare. Med sin krea tiva och nyskapande profil skördar denna svenska ensemble ständigt nya framgångar och lockar nya lyssnare till konst musikens värld. Musica Vitae har sitt säte i Växjö. Orkestern är en del av Musik i Syd och turnerar regelbundet i Sverige och utomlands.
As the Latin name indicates, Musica Vitae presents the Music of Life to its audiences. Its repertoire spans three centuries and the orchestra is known on the international stage in particular for its newly written music and exciting combinations. The or chestra has premiered nearly 200 works, which have been per formed together with leading soloists and musical directors. With its creative and innovative profile, the Swedish ensemble continually achieves new successes and attracts new listeners to the world of art music. Musica Vitae is based in Växjö, Sweden. It is a part of Musik i Syd and tours regularly in Sweden and abroad.
dear audience Backstage is bustling with activity. The players are warming up, checking that tricky passage once more to be on the safe side. The concert master tunes the orchestra, everyone takes a deep breath and enters the concert hall to meet the audience. We bid you all a warm welcome to our 2016 Spring season when we will treat you to great emotions in intimate settings. The programming offers everything from deadly sins, in some cultures regarded as pure virtues, to Ferry Tales set in the ethereal Spring glow of the Norwegian fjord landscape. 2016 marks the bicentennial of the Independence of Argentina which puts extra light on the tango, a recurring feature in this season's programme. Great emotions are also to be found in the music of the baroque era and we emphasize the vitality by using baroque bows. The works of composer Anders Eliasson also take a hold of your heart and reach into your soul. Accompanied by musical superstars like Anders Paulsson, Roland PĂśntinen, Matthew Truscott and our very own artistic director Malin Broman we invite you all to be our fellow players in a world of music that knows no border controls. A touch of tango is present when Anders Paulsson and his saxophone meet the strings of Musica Vitae. Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and String Orchestra by Anders Eliasson is in the composer's own words »a dialogue between a singing, plaintive and undulating saxophone and attentive, receptive and supportive strings«. Teamed with Astor Piazzolla's music - rooted in the Argentinian tango and the modernist art music of the 20th century - this will be a concert long to be remembered. music

a night of the arts For the 2016 A Night of the Arts we have invited one of Sweden's most popular and dearly loved artists, Kalle Moraeus, to join us on the stage. Kalle is a violinist and a former member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with fellow musician Anders Lundqvist on the piano he brings his musicality, humour and warmth to Småland. music

Together with piano virtuoso Roland Pöntinen we bring you music from three centuries; the youthfulness of Mozart's Piano Concerto in C, the gravity of Polar Prize recipient Lutosławski and the sweet romance of Chopin's Concerto for Piano and Strings in e minor, composed in 1830. Accompanied by Pöntinen's favourite quotation from Samson François, »There are only two types of musical interpretation; to play a piece as were it for the very first or the very last time«, this will be a vivid and vibrant concert experience. At the lunch concert Dorota Siuda and Roland Pöntinen will be playing works by Ottorino Respighi and Karol Szymanowski. music

The Deadly Sins is a suite consisting of seven tangos for piano and strings depicting Pride, Sloth, Envy, Greed, Lust, Gluttony and Wrath The tango arose as entertainment music in the brothels of Buenos Aires. In the 20th century, the tango underwent a formidable change in status, moving from the brothels into the dance halls, onto the silver screen, and then to the classical music scene. However, he legacy of the original Argentinian sin is never totally eradicated. One might even claim that the deadly sins are pure virtues where the tango is concerned! Poet Kristina Lugn was inspired by the attributes and attitude of tango lyrics and music when writing the texts which in this performance are intertwined with music by composer Johan Ullén. music

The works we play when guest appearing at the Gothenburg Concert Hall are good examples of the orchestra's programming policy. Classical Haydn is paired with contemporary Swedish composer Brita Byström and Tchaikovsky's memorable images of Florence. Guest soloist is the acclaimed cellist Andreas Brantelid. music

Violinist and concert master of the London- based Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Matthew Truscott is joining us in this festive concert. We are treating you to a baroque extravaganza brimming with emotions and contrasts created by the masters of the era. Among the pieces played are Bach's Double Violin Concerto and his magnificent 3rd Brandenburg Concerto as well as Concerti Grossi by Corelli and Handel. music

We are proud to present Simon Crawford- Phillips, in Sweden perhaps best known as one of the members of the Kungsbacka Trio. In this concert he takes on a number of tasks appearing both as a pianist and a conductor, but also as a percussionist playing tubular bells in Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten by Arvo Pärt. The programme is a homage to memory and to composers' memories of one another expressed in music.
tuba bravura Øystein Baadsvik and Musica Vitae first met ten years ago, and we are pleased to renew our acquaintance with the world's leading tuba player. Together we will play classical music for tuba and strings and also a jazz-inspired suite – Ferry Tales – by Erland Skonsvoll and Øystein Baadsvik. music

Six composition students attending Sweden's three biggest colleges of music write music directly for our fifteen string players. The music is studied and rehearsed under the baton of conductor Michael Bartosch and the result is presented at a public concert. As of yet we do not know any of the music, but you do not want to miss the opportunity to be the first to listen to the works of these creative and talented young composers. music
