CREATIVE TRAINING FOR YOUTH: EUROPE - AFRICA
MUSIC CROSSROADS Music Crossroads is a non-profit organisation which uses the power of music and music education to empower and provide opportunities to young people. Through professional training, live performances and promotion of young talents, we work to develop the music education sector and the music industry in the culturally rich southern Africa. With this vision we created three centers of music education excellence, the Music Crossroads Academies, based in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The concept of our Academies is to strengthen music education by making it culturally relevant, accessible and affordable without compromising on quality. The Academies aim to shape talented musicians into young professionals. As part of this initiative Music Crossroads is now also providing technical skills training needed in the music industry.
“If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.
- Jimi Hendrix
CREATIVE TRAINING FOR YOUTH In 2016 and 2017, the Creative Training for Youth: Europe - Africa (CTYEA) Project will empower young people by delivering musical and capacity building training to at least 160 participants through 2 Creative Training Campuses. The Project’s aim is to develop the required technical skills to improve abilities of young creative people, enable them to generate income and to improve their livelihood in the creative industry. The first Creative Training Campus, consisting of 3 Capacity Building Workshops and a Teacher Training Campus, will be hosted by the Music Crossroads Academy in Zimbabwe from November to December 2016. The second Creative Training Campus will take place in 2017 and will be organised by the Music Crossroads Academy in Malawi. The CTYEA Project is co-funded by the European Union Cooperation (Erasmus+), the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Music Crossroads International and its partners.
CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOPS 2016 4 - 22 NOVEMBER, HARARE Building on previously administered workshops in partnership with the African Music Development Programme from the International Music Council, the CTYEA Project will deliver advanced training in the fields of Audio Engineering, Instrument Build & Repair and Cultural Management. Teacher Training Campus 2016 23 November - 09 December, HARARE The 15 day Teacher Training Campus is an inclusive skills development platform providing innovative teaching solutions for teacher trainees from our 3 Music Crossroads Academies and selected participants. The Global Music Academy, our pedagogical partner from Germany, coordinates this non-formal Training with the aim to further develop teaching materials and create a vibrant music education system. This framework will enable talented young musicians to acquire the necessary skills to read, write, document and transmit their own music cultures within the targeted geographical areas and beyond. Involvement of different regions of Africa enables cultural interaction and collaboration.
ShoWCASE Concerts 2016 9 - 10 DECEMBER, HARARE Alliance Française, 328 Herbert Chitepo Avenue At the end of the Creative Training Campus, the participants will perform in either the teacher’s bands from the Academies or in other local bands.
