Meet Molly
NWS Fellow to Watch
Molly Turner will join the New World Symphony as our new Conducting Fellow starting fall 2023. Before coming to NWS, she served as assistant conductor for the Berlin Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Utah Symphony, San Diego Symphony and more. Also a violinist, violist and composer, Molly says conducting encompasses so many fields of study history, analysis, her composition background and the psychology of leading a group.
“I’ve always been a lifelong learner, which makes conducting endlessly fascinating to me. I like finding a way to be a catalyst for my fellow musicians’ opinions about the music we are making together. I’m excited to join NWS because I get to work alongside both Stéphane Denève and Michael Tilson Thomas. For me that’s invaluable because they both think so brilliantly and also so differently.”
Meet Seth NWS Fellow to Watch
Viola Fellow Seth Van Embden is excited to return for the 2023-24 season, his second at NWS. He is an enthusiastic proponent for historical performance and is a founding member of Ensemble Affect, a non-profit dedicated to making period performance practice accessible and approachable.
Seth is leading the development of a special week-long celebration of historical performance that includes concerts, guest lectures and master classes. Playing on instruments matching those from the 1600s, Fellows will take on the role of anthropologist, taking audiences back in time to explore developments in repertoire, style and the instruments themselves. Subscribers will have first access to secure seats in fall 2023.
