Passing from History - mysteries - wistful, We enter the hall with a tentative mien. Laughing in whispers we, jittery, wishful, Consider this passage, a disquiet scene. What are they thinking, those blinking companions, As we dash through the hall in our disparate castes? Eyes that surround us confound, in this canyon Of classes, our cohort, reluctant, amassed. Breathe. The gavel, the judgment, the jury of peers, A mirror of faces reflecting our fears; Façades we, through sightless stares, once believed true Dissolve as the eyes of our hearts see anew. The “we” is illusion, the “they” a deceit, The canyon traversed, and the castes obsolete.
