Course: Studio

Duration: Months

Located in Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy, this fve-story hostels follows the concept of ‘merge’ to create a home-away-from-home for tourists. Drawing inspiration from the communal aspect of a traditional Italian household, as well as from the classic Italian saying, ‘Dolce Far Niente: The Sweetness of Doing Nothing,’ this hostel serves to be a shared, serene space. Shared Serenity combines both of these elements to create peaceful spaces where one can relax by themselves, and exciting communal spaces where one can spend time with others. The hostel also offers walking tours of the main tourist attractions in the neighborhood, which is an important element of the program. Through the inclusion of cooking classes, wine tasting, a textile museum and a pottery studio, the focus on Italian cuisine, textiles and architecture was executed. Each of these elements can be experienced as either a shared or private experience, once again adhering to the concept of ‘merge’. f
