B.A. man jailed, woman hospitalized A Broken Arrow man remained in jail in lieu of $75,000 bond Tuesday, and the woman who was arrested with him remained hospitalized. Jeffrey Fleming, 30, and Rebecca Rainwater, 32, both of Broken Arrow were arrested by police in connection with robbery by force or fear at two Muskogee businesses and larceny from a retailer at another Saturday. The pair was arrested at the Pilot truck stop, and police found a meth lab, along with drug paraphernalia, in the vehicle, said Lt. Bobby Lee. The couple was arrested on complaints of knowingly concealing stolen property — lingerie from Little Secrets, clothing and skin care and nail kits from Walgreens. They also are accused of pushing a Cato clerk and taking $90 worth of clothing, police reports state. Rainwater was under arrest and in police custody, but as she was being booked in Muskogee County/City County Detention Facility, she passed out and was taken to Muskogee Regional Medical Center. Her condition was not available Tuesday evening.

Wagoner Co. commissioners vote to rescind park election WAGONER (AP) — Wagoner County commissioners have voted to call off a July 27 special election on a sales tax increase to relocate Bell¬ís Amusement Park from Tulsa to the county. Commissioners Chris Edwards and Jim Hargrove voted to rescind the election and Commissioner Tom Vincent opposed the move at Tuesday’s meeting. Hargrove said he supports the project, but a “full-blown business plan” needed to be developed. Wagoner County Clerk Carolyn Kusler said last week the quarter-cent sales-tax increase, if approved, would last for 10 years, generating an extra $1 million annually. The money would have funded the park, an exposition center and an animal shelter on acreage near Coweta. Robert K. Bell Enterprises Inc. signed a 50year lease with the county May 24.
Wagoner residents, police track Polaris Wagoner police officers found city buildings damaged at Maple Park and a 2004 Ranger Polaris missing. Officers followed the tracks to a game refuge north of Wagoner. City Manager Larry Morgan joined the search with his four-wheeler. The search ended at 5:30 a.m. and resumed when the sun arose. Several citizens loaned their four-wheelers to aid police in the search, and a handful of citizens also joined the search. The Polaris was found in the woods. “If it weren’t for the dedication of the officers and citizens, the city’s Polaris would not have been recovered,” said Terry Hornbuckle, Wagoner chief of police.
accompanied by a cashier’s check, certified check or money order issued by a bank written to the secretary of the county election board where the filing is made. The declaration of candidacy must be notarized. For county offices, that fee is $200, Thames said. According to the state Election Board Web site, the fee for state offices ranges from $200 for state senator to $1000 for U.S. senator. Reach Liz McMahan at 684-2926 or lmcmahan@ muskogeephoenix.com.

Old Fort Women’s Club helps in various ways By Liz McMahan Phoenix Staff Writer
FORT GIBSON — Ruth McLemore figures that with a rule that says the Old Fort Women’s Club members don’t have to pay dues after they turn 80, the club may go broke some day. That is, unless they pick up some younger new members. The club was organized several decades ago as a Home Demonstration Club. They no longer belong to that organization and are more of a women’s civic club that serves Fort Gibson, said Paula Foster, president. While they help with many projects, they are perhaps one of Fort Gibson’s best-kept secrets, Foster said. “I talked with someone the other day who thought we get together to study Fort Gibson history,” she

said. History seldom comes up at their meetings. Instead, they: • Buy cards for those who use the food pantry to use for meat purchases. • Provide scholarships for local youths to attend camps.
• Funded a field trip to Oklahoma City for Norwood School. • Help victims of burnouts. • Deliver food baskets and Christmas gifts to the needy. • Send packages to service members overseas.
“I like what we do,” said longtime member Louise Walden. “I like the fun and fellowship we have and I like the serious things we do.” The club funds its work through an annual garage sale and a quilt raffle. Foster showed the quilt — an almost king-size quilt titled “Old Fort Flower Garden.” They will give the quilt away at the First United Methodist Church’s annual crafts show in November. The club meets twice each month September through May at the church and at various restaurants once each month during the summer, Foster said. Anyone interested in contributing to the club or becoming a member may call Foster: 478-3334. Reach Liz McMahan at 684-2926 or lmcmahan@ muskogeephoenix.com.
WELLING (AP) — A 12year-old riding a motorcycle on private property has died after a collision with a vehicle. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident that killed Randy Catron of Welling happened about 3:30 p.m. Monday on a rural Cherokee County road. Troopers say the boy was riding the motorcycle from private property and failed to yield to traffic when he entered the county roadway. A vehicle driven by 20-year-old Jennifer Pack of Welling hit the motorcycle. The boy died at the scene. Neither Pack nor her 1-year-old passenger were injured. Services are pending with Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah.
