welcome to MUSKOKA WOODS Muskoka Woods inspires youth to shape their world. It’s a place where creativity reigns, friendships flourish and confidence grows. Whether you’re a new guest, returning guest or parent, we’re delighted for this opportunity to tell you about what’s new and exciting for 2015. I am pleased to report that Muskoka Woods continues to invest in the resort infrastructure to ensure the growth of the camp while building upon the excellence of our past. We look forward to continuing our tradition of providing ever-better and more enriching experiences to our guests as they return year after year. This year’s summer camp guests will be thrilled to ride our KrackenRACER Waterslide. Equipped with a new timing clock, you won’t want to miss out on racing your friends on six lanes of outrageous wet and wild fun. We’re also breaking ground on a new Arts Village to expand on our most popular arts programs in a place where beauty blends with innovation to unlock creativity.
We broadened our specialty programs through our new onsite Cheer Camp, Athletic Performance Institute and Grizzly Camp. By popular demand, Secret Agent Camp is offered for three weeks this summer, with Venture Girls and Junior High Boys invited to join in the undercover fun. Every year our CEO leadership program keeps getting bigger. 2014 was our largest class ever, graduating more than 80 young leaders who are primed and ready to make an impact on our world. CITYCAMP, our mobile day camp, was launched in Summer 2014 across the Greater Toronto Area. This year, we will continue to take Muskoka Woods on the road and operate in even more locations for those unable to make it to the lake. At Muskoka Woods, Christian values are our foundation and FUN is our Trademark™. A week at summer camp is much more than campfire songs and fun activities. Lifelong memories are formed and character is shaped. Friendships are forged here and continue even when the guests go home. Whether it’s a summer camp experience for your children, or a corporate, educational or church retreat, I welcome you to make summer memories that last a lifetime, on the shores of Lake Rosseau. Sincerely,
John McAuley President and CEO

“TEAM MUSKOKA WOODS”
Great counsellors and staff make Muskoka Woods a safe, fun summer camp experience your child will want to return to year after year. Our on-site staff to guest ratio is 2:4, one of the highest supervision rates in North America. Each year, we hire some of the best and brightest young adults from around the world to bring the spark of creativity and the dream of a unique adventure to our programs. We receive over 900 applications for seasonal staff positions and hire 350 summer staff members, with an average age of 20. Two thirds of our seasonal team members were Muskoka Woods’ guests in their youth or participated in the CEO Leadership Program. The safety of all of our guests is paramount. Applicants are personally interviewed, references are contacted, and all undergo the vulnerable sectors police background check. Our summer team of directors goes through hours of intentional training before Staff Week begins, and our senior leadership team is given a full day of first-aid and emergency response training.

“When I was 7 and got up on water skis for the first time, my Muskoka Woods instructor was cheering the loudest! That’s why I returned as a counsellor myself, to be that kind of positive influence. Now it’s my career. How cool is that?” JACKIE CARMICHAEL Camp Director, Muskoka Woods
Our summer staff receives seven days of training before camp begins. Staff training includes: certification in Occupational Health & Safety, emergency preparedness & procedure, customer service standards, youth culture & development, information on child protection from a judge and lawyer and specific, hands-on training for each section at camp. The Muskoka Woods hiring team has received Praesidium training, the global leader in Child Risk Management. We have also partnered with Winning Kids Inc., the Canadian experts in abuse prevention and child protection.

KID OF THE WEEK PROFILE:
Michael Im
Friday Finale is filled with familiar cheers from each age group and buzzing with excitement. It’s the last night at camp, and guests eagerly wait for the counsellors to announce the boy and girl Kid of the Week. To earn Kid of the Week, guests must participate in cabin clean up, volunteer to clear the table, show team spirit during evening programs, and be kind to their cabin mates. It’s a real honour and great achievement, especially for returning guests. So, it’s no surprise Michael Im was brought to tears in 2014 when his counsellor started talking about the 9-year-old boy who spent all of July at Muskoka Woods. He was enthusiastic, respectful, encouraging and gave everything he had during his programs and activities. All 500 guests chanted his name as he ran on stage to accept his prize, incredibly excited for Michael. Kid of the Week is a huge deal at Muskoka Woods. The award captures the spirit of the camp and the desire for all guests to be the best they can be, day and night.

ALL THE COMFORTS FOR A HAPPY CAMPER.
At Muskoka Woods, our goal is for guests to feel at home, safe and comfortable in their cabin life and throughout their entire summer camp experience. All guests stay in age-based cabin groups. Counsellors in each cabin love bonding and engaging with young people in the age group they are assigned. Negative behaviours are dealt with in a positive manner that ensures ongoing camaraderie within the cabin. Food is nutritious, delicious and even fun, especially treats around the campfire. Many of our guests return to Muskoka Woods to work as counsellors because of the memorable experiences they enjoyed here as youngsters. Muskoka Woods’ facilities are well maintained and in top-notch condition. Every year, we invest in new

equipment and supplies to ensure the best possible summer camp experience for each guest. OUR COMMITMENT TO HEALTH AND SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT. Our Health Care Centre is staffed with a team of full-time nurses and a doctor. We ask to be informed of each guest’s special health requirements before arrival. Prescriptions and medications, health and allergy concerns, even homesickness are given a top priority. We provide parents with a full checklist to leave with us, so they’ll know their child is being cared for just as they would at home.
Each summer at Muskoka Woods adds up to more fun.
20,000 Cookies are baked from scratch over a 10 week summer.
Our WILD guests sing approximately 17 camp songs over the course of the week. There are over 25 campfires across the property in one week of camp.
15 gallons of paint are used in less than 1 hour for CLASSIC’s Wet & Wild program. It takes approximately 48 hours of planning to create 1 over-the-top CLASSIC game.
Venture guests consume about 325 S’mores (among the whole group, not just one child). The summer program team uses more than 450 rolls of duct tape in evening programs.
The office staff delivers about 70 emails each day from parents.
285 cakes are creatively decorated in our Cake Decorating program.

getting to know ANDREW ‘PK’ JORDAN
In 1999, Andrew ‘PK’ Jordan traveled from his home in Northern Ireland to work as a Junior High counsellor at Muskoka Woods. Sixteen years later, he’s the Director of Schools & Retreats, overseeing the planning and execution of year-round programs. Seeing the looks on kids’ faces when they conquer their fears, hearing staff share inspiring stories each week and building partnerships with retreat group leaders are just a few of his favourite things. A Leisure and Tourism grad, PK is thrilled to put his management and leadership skills into practice everyday, developing memorable programs for groups and fostering strong bonds among his staff.

WHY GROUPS KEEP COMING BACK Our grade 8 students love the incredible variety of activities that challenge them to be their best at Muskoka Woods. Even though we are a small school, administration, group leaders, kitchen staff and maintenance crews always have gone out of their way to ensure our students and staff leave with a memory that will last a lifetime. The facilities, equipment, and programming are second to none. We will be back for our 10th year!

WHY LEADERS RECOMMEND A RETREAT AT MUSKOKA WOODS.
The time we spend in the Leadership Studio at Muskoka Woods has been critical to the success we have experienced in our Cadence school program designed for disengaged and at-risk students. The studio is so warm and welcoming. It allows our students to truly be themselves and open up to new ideas about themselves and leadership. More than this, the programs and staff, led by Ellen, are incredible. Ellen has a unique ability to speak directly to the hearts of young people. Thank you, Muskoka Woods, for helping us change the lives of young people. Rob Conroy, Cadence Program, Upper Grand District School Board
In more than 25 years of strategic planning for our business, our leadership team has not found a more inspirational space in which to dream and work than the space and accommodations of The Leadership Studio at Muskoka Woods. Connection, creativity and vision are a by-product of time spent in such a well-designed space. Many hotels or conference facilities could benefit from taking note of the functionality teams can experience at the Leadership Studio. Few can duplicate the view, no matter the season! I had the privilege of connecting with three separate groups at the new Leadership Studio at Muskoka Woods. In each case, the Studio did more than simply provide us with a safe, spacious location in which to explore leadership and friendships. The facility itself is actually a place of inspiration, calling people to deeper community, service and growth. I can’t wait to take my own team up there for a couple days!

YOUTH
foundation
The Muskoka Woods Youth Foundation provides support for: Canadian Heroes Program: This program offers a memorable Muskoka Woods summer camp experience to children with parents in the Canadian Armed Forces. Exceptionality Program: Through our partnership with Precious Minds, this program invites children with autism to Muskoka Woods for a week. Jamie Groves Scholarship Program: Since 2005, this program has awarded scholarships to more than 350 summer staff members. This support allows them to contribute at camp rather than seek alternative summer jobs to finance university or college educations. Neil Lovatt Memorial Fund: Established in 2002, the Neil Lovatt Memorial Fund puts summer camp within the reach of deserving youth from at-risk communities.
59

Project 52: This program provides lifecoaching, leadership training and spiritual support to our summer staff year-round. Project 52 staff work with these young people in local schools, churches and on university campuses in 10 cities throughout Ontario & Quebec, and in Northern Ireland. Resiliency Program: Established in 2011, our Resiliency Program connects the Leadership Studio at Muskoka Woods with a school in southern Ontario to inspire at-risk youth to shape their world. Upward Leadership: A generous grant from World Vision has enabled Muskoka Woods and Urban Promise Toronto to establish this two-year program for emerging leaders in the Scarborough community of Warden Woods.
Mackenzie’s Hope: Mackenzie Lynn Masson, born October 6, 2000, was taken by cancer October 16, 2012. She knew of many opportunities for kids with cancer to attend camps. She adored her little brother Jamie and wanted siblings of children with cancer to be offered an opportunity to experience what she loved best: Muskoka Woods. The “Mackenzie’s Hope” fund was founded to honour her wish. To donate to our foundation and send a kid to camp, visit muskokawoodsyouthfoundation.com.
