CELEBRATING EID WITH THE NEEDY Every year, Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-ul-Adha in the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah. On the days of Eid-ul-Adha, halal animals are sacrificed to commemorate the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and the meat is distributed among impoverished and needy communities. Qurbani animals vary depending on the location, but include cows, goats, camels and sheep. Islam emphasises everybody coming together, and especially the inclusion of poor and vulnerable people. As Muslims, we truly believe that nobody should be left behind. The season of Qurbani is an important time to reflect on self-sacrifice, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and our own connection to Allah (SWT). 03
In 2021, your Qurbani donations with Muslim Charity benefited hundreds of thousands of vulnerable and needy people. Muslim Charity sacrificed 17,980 Qurbani animals across 15 countries worldwide, and distributed the meat locally in impoverished communities. The areas we selected for Qurbani distributions are suffering from severe poverty and hardships, where many people do not know where their next meal is coming from. For many people we reached, this was the first time they received meat throughout the year. Without stable income and facing such huge challenges, most families are unable to buy meat, even on special occasions like Eid. Your Qurbani donations meant they were able to enjoy hearty, wholesome and nutritious meals over the days of Eid-ul-Adha.
04
This year, with your Qurbani donations, we were able to provide fresh meat to approximately 353,982 people across the globe.

WHY IS FRESH MEAT DISTRIBUTION NEEDED, AND HOW DOES IT BENEFIT VULNERABLE FAMILIES? Statistics from the World Food Programme reveal that there are 821 million people in the world who do not get enough food to lead a normal and active life. Since 2014, these figures have been rising. Food insecurity is a leading cause of child malnutrition, which is continually rising. In 2019, approximately 21.3 percent of all children under the age of 5 (which amounted to 144 million children) were stunted. This meant they were not growing both physically and developmentally in the way they should, due to a lack of food. Food security is affected by a number of factors, including conflict, low economic growth and climate change. The Covid-19 pandemic has left a devastating impact on communities around the world, with increased food insecurity and hunger.
09
Around 242.3 million people in India do not have enough food to eat and 17.3% of all children under 5 are acutely malnourished.
Around 33.1 million people in Bangladesh do not have enough food to eat and 8.4% of all children under 5 are acutely malnourished.
Around 122.9 million people in Pakistan do not have enough food to eat and 7.1% of all children under 5 are acutely malnourished.
Around 12.7 million people in Yemen do not have enough food to eat and 11.7% of all children under 5 are facing acute malnutrition.
10
Around 14.8 million people in Uganda do not have enough food to eat and 3.5% of all children under 5 are facing acute malnutrition.
Around 1 million people in Palestine do not have enough food to eat and 1.2% of all children under 5 are facing acute malnutrition.
Around 1.5 million people in Lebanon are living without enough food and 6.6% of all children under 5 are acutely malnourished.

Muslim Charity’s Qurbani distributions helped families living in abject poverty, both with spreading the joy of Eid and by providing fresh and nutritious meat. Many families are unable to buy meat throughout the whole year, and this often affects their diets, leaving them without important nutrients such as iron and protein. Our Qurbani distributions have truly helped people in building their health and immune systems, helping to keep them healthier for longer.
12
MUSLIM CHARITY’S PROJECT DELIVERY MECHANISM In order to effectively and efficiently deliver Qurbani meat, we established Community Groups which included local leaders such as school/Madrassah teachers, Mosque Imams and partner organisation members. The Community Groups were involved in every stage of the Qurbani and distribution, including the procurement of animals, ensuring compliance with Islamic principles, selection of distribution points, beneficiary selection and monitoring of the meat distribution.
13 13
The beneficiaries were selected based on their economic circumstances, and priority was given to the most vulnerable groups including:
- Women-headed households. - Families with orphan children and elderly family members. - Families living with persons with special needs.
Specified distribution points were allocated where those receiving Qurbani meat would come in order to collect their meat. However, our teams hand-delivered Qurbani meat to those people who were unable to reach the distribution points, such as those with illnesses, disabilities or age-related factors.

CASE STUDY VULNERABLE AND LONELY
Zaithun Bibi, lives in the Bomminayakkanpatti village, Theni District, Tamil Nadu, India. Five years ago, her husband passed away, and since then she has been living alone. She has one daughter who is married and living in another city. Zaithun Bibi leads a very difficult life that is lonely and harsh. Due to her age, she is now unable to work and is fully dependent on charitable aid, and she often worries about how she will continue to survive. This Eid, we distributed fresh Qurbani meat to Zaithun Bibi, who was overwhelmed and overjoyed. She sent lots of love and Duas to those who donated their Qurbani, as this meant she too was able to join in with Eid festivities. 15
THE IMPACT Distributing Qurbani meat has really helped vulnerable people feel the joy and celebrations of Eid-ul-Adha. Together we helped ensure that nobody was left out, and that everybody was able to eat wholesome, nutritious meat across the blessed days. Our Qurbani process is all done locally. We use local vendors to procure and transport animals, as well as during the slaughter, packing and distribution processes. This means that we create jobs for many people including butchers, farmers and drivers. We help boost local economies, creating bigger change that will help communities for longer.
