Who We Are Mustang Media Group (MMG) is the fully-integrated, student-run media organization at Cal Poly. When formed in 2013, it became the first program of its kind in the California State University system, bringing Mustang News, MNTV and KCPR-FM under one umbrella and providing students with the type of environment that has become standard in today’s media industry. Last year, Central Coast PRspectives (CCPR) officially became part of MMG and provides public relations and marketing services for the organization. Here is a quick look at all of the divisions of MMG:

CCPR

Mustang News is the editorial arm of the organization, providing Cal Poly and community members with a weekly tabloid newspaper, 24/7 online coverage on MustangNews.net and regular news programming on KCPR-FM. Austin Linthicum is the 2018– 2019 Editor-in-Chief of Mustang News and coordinates coverage on the various media platforms. MNTV produces regular newscasts available on the local community network on cable television and online, as well as livestreaming for larger on-campus events.

MMG Business provides print, online, newsstand and digital advertising for the entire organization. We work directly with local businesses to produce effective advertisements that meet clients’ needs. Our award-winning designers also create special editions such as Coupon Book, Poly Picks, Go SLO and SLO Days. Bianka Pantoja, BJ Drye and Kylie Goldfarb are the 2018–2019 Advertising Managers.

The student run radio station will be celebrating its 50th birthday in 2018 and continues to be one of the top-rated college stations nationally. Weird Al Yankovich started his career behind the microphone in the studios in Building 26, as did a number of national television correspondents such as David Kerley (ABC) and Michelle Franzen (NBC). Ally Millard is the 2018–2019 General Manager for KCPR-FM.

Central Coast PRspectives, founded in 2008 as a student-run public relations organization, becomes the newest facet of MMG. Led by Claire Blachowski in 201819, CCPR takes over all of the marketing and event planning for the organization. That includes the very popular SLO Fest in October and the SloLife Fair, formerly Housing Fair, in the winter.

Calendar & Vi sitor's Guide Mustang Media Group has two new products developed in the past two years to reach parents and unique visitors to the campus. The academic-year calendar, published in partnership with Campus Health and Wellbeing, provides parents with all of the important academic dates and also is used by many staff and faculty on campus. This year, MMG will publish its first Cal Poly Visitor’s Guide in conjunction with Admissions. This publication will be handed out to families attending campus tours and also available to visitors to Cal Poly for workshops and conferences held throughout the year. A limited number will also be made available to local hotels. This is the only official Guide sanctioned by the university. This will be published for each calendar year, completely student produced and be a visible example of Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy.
