- POWERSCAPES Team: Rafaela Olivares, Anam Ahmed Professor: Andres Jaque Work: GSAPP - Columbia University Year: Fall 2019 Location: New York, USA Powerscapes addresses the gendered dimensions of the climate change crisis by focusing on women and the disruption of their socio-economic setups, which consequently force them to migrate. Spaces are designed to create shared resources between the community of the building and the city. Questioning and proposing an economy alternative to capitalism. Creating a system that provides the infraestructure, tools and assistance for the residents to produce artifacts, technology and foods aiming for the financial empowerement of the migrants. A series of mixers with an assemblage of spaces, address entertainment, celebration, healing and support. The living typologies challenge and reimagine the domestic labor implied in our current ways of living.

The refurbishment of the apartment focused most of the work in the kitchen and the bathroom. In the kitchen area, a counter was included in order to give the space an extra surface for cooking and eating. All the cabinets were replaced and redesigned to provide an efficient use of the available space. Additionally, an upgrade of the wall tiles were made to create a modern style. In the bathroom, the old-fashioned tiles were replaced with new marble ones. Cabinets and faucets were also improved and upgraded. This was my first solo project and I was responsible for the design and follow-up of the whole work, on top of the interior’s advisory design which included the selection of paint colors, furniture and lightning.

- RETHINKING EVIDENCE -
Proposed circulation
Solo work Professor: Mark Wasiuta Work: GSAPP - Columbia University Year: Spring 2020 Location: Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam The project, in hand with the research, tries to create a series of interventions throughout the existing War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh. Understanding and acknowledging the complexity and articulation of the war crimes committed, these spaces focus on how the body engages with the evidence and the different layers of comprehension that they imply. The circulation proposed, challenges the perception of the user throughout the whole visit. A rotatable device helps the display of photographic documents while involving the visitor. Maps of the mission, devices scattered along the path, comparing color and non colored pictures and a recreation of the rescue scene, help the visitor’s perceptions of the violence occurred during the military operation.
