Accreditation Mount Wachusett Community College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., a nongovernmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering post-graduate instruction. Accreditation of an institution by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group review process. An accredited school or college is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation. Accreditation by the New England Association is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of the quality of every course of program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution. Inquiries regarding the status of an institution’s accreditation by the New England Association should be directed to the administrative staff of the school or college. Individuals may also contact the Association directly.

Assessment results will be used by an academic advisor to assist the student in developing an educational/career plan. Completion of RDG 099, RDG 100, ENG 100, MAT 090, MAT 092, or MAT 096 may be required prior to enrollment in high-level courses. The first step in the career development process involves the assessment of your skills, interests, abilities, and personal style, which are some of the formal measurements that can enhance self-knowledge. Career assessment is an important step in setting meaningful academic goals. The assessment and career services staff can assist students in learning more about themselves and various career opportunities. For more information about the career assessments or college career counselor assistance call (978) 630-9244. Financial Aid All students of the college enrolled in an academic program are eligible to apply for student financial assistance. Each year the financial aid office assists full-time and part-time, day and evening students, to obtain funds available from federal, state, and campus sources to make the educational programs at MWCC affordable. Many students do not apply for financial aid because they “think they are ineligible, or are misinformed about the student financial assistance regulations and procedures. Please take the time to complete the application. The priority application date for the 2009-2010 Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was April 1. While late applications are always accepted, students must apply prior to June 30 to be able to use financial aid awards to defer their tuition and fee bill. For complete information about the federal and state student financial assistance programs available to MWCC students, please call or stop by the financial aid office, (978) 630-9169.

Important Math Curriculum Changes Effective Fall 2009 The Mathematics course sequence will be changing its developmental course offering in the fall of 2009. The course sequence will change from a 3 course format, to a 4 course format. This will be accomplished by: • Modifying the present MAT090 and removing the one hour lab; • Combining the present MAT100 and parts of MAT120 into a new 4-credit MAT092; • Combining the remainder of MAT120 and the present MAT121 into a new 4-credit MAT-096. This change will create a Mathematics course sequence consistent with the national model. The new MAT096, which replaces the present MAT121, will not be a credit bearing course (developmental courses do not transfer for credit). Given that MWCC presently offers college credit towards graduate for MAT121, any student presently enrolled in MAT120 will not be able to take MAT121 in the fall for credit.

Enrollment Center (978) 630-9110

Therefore, it is strongly encouraged that all MAT120 students presently enrolled, (and students who have not completed their Math requirement) take one of the following steps to possibly avoid an addition Math course in the fall. • Enroll in MAT121 this summer to complete your Math requirements before the change takes effect. • Summer I MAT120 students need to take MAT121 in Summer II to complete their Math requirements before the change takes effect. • Summer II students who are taking MAT120, and all other students who have completed MAT120 and do not plan to take MAT121 during the Summer session, should take the free Math review offered in August and retake the placement test to hopefully advance to MAT126. • All students who cannot complete their MAT121, or place into MAT126, should contact their advisors for possible alternatives. * indicates a lab
