Concept Akron is a town of 2,000 people that was once a busy stop on the cross country railway. Akron is not unlike other small towns across America; the population is largely conservative and working class, and the town lacks amenities, artistic opportunities, and community resources. This project aims to alleviate the social isolation that plagues small town America, and indeed Akron. This community center would achieve that by engaging, enriching and serving the people of Akron.

It will adopt an abandoned storefront, and the surrounding available space, simultaneously pushing the boundaries of architecture in Akron, without imposing on the historic district. This new addition to main street will serve as a sanctuary from the rather grim and industrial surroundings and provide a definitive landmark in the center of town that encourages interactions between folks of all walks of life.
