Hawaii Libraries Named Best in the Army! The Sgt Yano Library, along with its branches at Fort Shafter and AMR, were recognized by the U.S. Army, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command as the 2008 Outstanding Library Program (Large Installation). The libraries demonstrated their ability to provide a wide variety of activities for all segments of the Army community, toddlers to adults. Fan Fiction Contest @ the libraries Do you read or write fan fiction? Fan fiction is fiction written by fans of a book, movie, TV show, or comic book, using the existing characters and settings but writing alternative endings or continuations to the original story. In celebration of National Library Week (April 12, 2009), the Army Hawai’i Libraries will be holding a fan fiction contest, held for children, teens, and adults. Wish that Harry Potter ended in a different way? Have a funny adventure idea for Captain Underpants? Share it with us! Use your imagination! Random Acts of Kindness @ the libraries Spread a little kindness and make the world a better place during Random Acts of Kindness Week, Feb. 9 - 15. Fill out an entry form at any Army Library, describe the kind and helpful services you performed and enter to win prizes. For adults and children of all ages. The Art of Feng Shui FENG SHUI means “WindWater” in Chinese and is an ancient art dating back to 770BC. “Wind” represents the flow of movement and “Water,” represents the qi, or energy that the “Wind” moves. Come to the library to learn and understand the fundamental philosophy underlying all Feng Shui practices and see why it is so vital to optimize your environment with proper balance, health and money. This presentation will be held on Wed, Feb. 18 at Sgt Yano Library and on Thurs, Feb. 19 at Fort Shafter Library. The programs begin at 6 pm at both libraries. In an effort to assist Soldiers and Family Members with their physical fitness, CYS has established a STACC site at Kaala Community Activities Center (CAC), Bldg. 556. The STACC site will be available Monday through Friday from 8 – 11am for children who are able to walk and between the ages of 13 months and 10 years old.
