Mr Jones’Orphanage: Come for the dessert and stay for the Teddy Bears BY HTUN LYN ZAW
ATMOSPHERE Even from the far out, we were greeted with the sight of whimsically lit decors and lights, glistening against the heavily lighted mall. The gently revolving carousel, decked with numerous teddy bears, hovers up the shop from above. Underneath it, there would be neatly tables and booths with their own fluffy teddy bear companions. The decorations and teddy bears would truly avert your attention from the bustling shopping center. In other words, you would feel in place and, of course, sheltered. RECOMMENDATION To get desserts and coffee would be optimal here but there are numerous decent meal options you can choose. Shrimp open sandwich is definitely a must delicacy since the creaminess of the cream coated with tender shrimps a resounding flavor by following up with a chewy bread. Sausage fried rice, with a toning mixture of sausage and eggs also would make an interesting option if for lunch. The cherry on top these sundaes of meals would be the desserts of the shop. We started out with the massive stacks of “Matcha Toast” with vanilla ice cream on top. This is one of those desserts, which would acquire an eccentrically soggy yet fascinating texture and taste even if you let it sit for a while and let the ice cream melt on top. We moved on next to Rainbow Crepe Cake with strawberry syrup, which would be an absolute sugary delight for all those who crave for decent dessert. A simple latte (which is also pretty decent) can go all the way. However, “Momma is the best”, slushes of mango flavored juice, was the perfect ending with its impeccable acidity which compensated the sugary richness of the desserts. FINAL THOUGHTS This place in general is a nice place to strike up a conversation with your friends. There’s always something comforting and warm about talking while holding on teddy bears over dessert.

Sushi Tei: All-day dining for Japanese craving BY SOFIA RAINERI Recently opened on Dhamazedi road next to Business Alliance Hotel, Sushi Tei provides a family friendly, casual dining experience. The restaurant is spacious and full of light. As well as a la carte menu, it also offers dishes on the kaiten-zushi (sushi conveyor belt).The staff is friendly and attentive, and greets with a smile upon entering the restaurant. Sushi Tei serves an extensive menu, with a large selection of innovative rolls, like the Spicy Aburi Maguro and Salmon Roll (10,800 Ks)- avocado and cucumber roll topped with bluefin tuna and salmon - or the Tiger roll (5,600 Ks)– prawn roll topped with flying fish roe and crabmeat mayonnaise-, we were recommended the Penthouse Salmon Roll (9,900 Ks), a salmon, avocado and egg roll with wasabi mayo, all the rolls look delicious and are definitely worth a try. I am not usually a fan of Japanese curry, although the Beef Curry Rice (9,600 Ks) was a pleasant surprise, the meat was perfectly tender and the curry sauce was rich and flavoursome, the distinct spices used in the dish could be tasted. The grilled squid, Ika Sugata Shio/Terriyaki (5,500 Ks) was perfectly cooked, tender with a delicious teriyaki glaze that tastes the familiar savoury and sweet contrast of Japanese cuisine. I love enoki mushrooms, and the Salmon Enoki Roll (7,400 Ks) did not disappoint in both flavour and texture. The cooked salmon and mushroom complemented each other well, and were smothered in a light soy based sauce. I was recommended The Dobinmushi (3,200 Ks) a clear soup served in a cute teapot, which was the perfect palate cleanser in between dishes, savoury and refreshing. I enjoyed their Mango Lemonade (2,500 Ks) and their Pineapple Passion fruit Soda, a refreshing mix of lemonade or soda and fruit syrup. I was pleased to find that Sushi Tei has interesting desserts choices, and chose the Kyoto Matcha Pudding (4,000 Ks), a creamy, matcha flavoured cold pudding. Overall, Sushi Tei is the perfect place to satisfy any Japanese cuisine craving, any time of day.
