Officilly launched over the weekend, SEEDS Restaurant & Lounge has created a buzz among the local and expat community even prior to the opening. One way to describe SEEDS is that it is a fine dining experience which is so warm and accessible. We sat by the Sunset Lounge to enjoy the breath taking view of Inya lake. We were welcomed with the refreshing Passion Whisky Fizz($8), a mix of Bourbon, Passion Fruit and Lime Juice, while enjoying the canapÊ. For dinner, we started off with a cup of tomato soup with duck breast and peach—absolutely delicious. It was rich but not creamy. The next dish was organic and locally sourced Vegetable Salad( $12)with olives, feta cheese and black truffles. If you are a fan of foie gras, you are in for a treat. The combination of Foie Gras ( $19) was an outstanding dish. The next dish, Lamb entrecote ($32), was a knockout. The lamb was wrapped in Kale and mushrooms which retains the juiciness and does not have the gamey smell cursed by lambs and muttons. Our dessert Freshly Baked Chocolate Fondant ($14) with was a pleasant surprise with its tangy and refreshing taste. We completed our dinner with Homemade Friandises. Our overall experience was satisfying. Though the staff is exceptionally attentive, more training is required for them to be well versed in the menu and the knowledge on paring the dishes with extensive wine list.We have no doubt that this matter will be easily solved in no time. Himari Myanmar Japanese Okonomiyaki Restaurant BY SOFIA RAINERI Situated next to the main entrance of Pearl Condo, Himari is rather a unique Japanese eatery. Seating arranged in a modern way of Japanese traditional floor. Each table has its own Teppan (hotplate) to keep hotplate dishes hot. The star of the restaurant is the Okonomiyaki, a Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients, also referred to as ‘Japanese pizza’. There are several types on the menu, and you also have the option to choose your own toppings. Another option is fried noodle Okonomiaky, an egg pancake with fried noodles, hefty and filling, the various options on the menu pair together egg and noodles with: pork, beef, squid or all! If an all in one dish is not what you are looking for, the restaurant provides lighter options as well, with a wide variety of salads such as the Avocado and Tuna Salad (5,500 KS) or the Homemade Deep Fried Tofu (3,800KS). Their Gyoza are perfectly cooked, the flavor of the stuffing is milder than other Gyoza I have tried, served with spicy dipping sauce (4,800KS). In my opinion, the Octopus balls are not to be missed, they come in sets of 8, covered in Katsuobushi (bonito flakes) and smothered in a delicious sauce. They are extremely creamy inside. The alcohol on the menu ranges from draught beer to more traditional Japanese alcohol such as Shochu, a popular Japanese distilled beverage which they serve mixed with water and which is more popularly drank than Sake in Japan. Free flow of drinks at 28,000 KS for 2.5 hours and a selection of about 7/8 substantial dishes. Overall, Himari is an enjoyable dining experience, which offers a different type of Japanese cuisine rarely seen around the city. However, this is a smoker’s place, so be warned if the smell of cigarette smoke is not for you.
