International Fashion In Yangon BY ROHINI KAPUR
The collections in some Yangon stores aren’t always the most recent ones. So do your trend research before you head out to shop. At the mall, you may find something you like, but then, your size may not be available (and “Asian” sizes are often way too small for non-Myanmar folks). If you make it as far as finding something you like and it’s available in your size, congratulations!...Here’s a list of international brands in Yangon. Most of them are located at the leading malls in the city -- Junction Square, Hledan Centre, Myanmar Plaza and Taw Win Centre. Remember to bring more kyats than you think you’ll need! FULL LIST ON MYANMORE.com
CLOTHING MANGO (SPAIN) Mango has everything a woman could want in her wardrobe—from tees to jumpsuits, in mostly European designs. On a lucky day, you might just find that elusive party dress here. Prices start at 12,900 kyats for a tshirt and 30,000 kyats onwards for a dress or blouse.
GIORDANO (HONG KONG) As a casual wear hub, Giordano is popular for polos and tees for men and women, though formal-ish clothes are also available. They also have men’s innerwear, unisex backpacks and shopping totes. Prices start at 15,000 kyats for a men’s polo shirt.
LEE COOPER (ENGLAND) Men can head to Lee Cooper for their denim needs. They have a range of popular washes and cuts. A pair of denim jeans starts around 80,000 kyats.
TIMBERLAND (USA) Myanmar may not have too many hiking enthusiasts, but the Timberland store has several trail shoes for men and women. Hiking boots start at 165,000 kyats.
NICHII (MALAYSIA) Nichii is a great place to shop for most types of women’s clothing. You will find smart styles in blouses and dresses that are appropriate as work or evening wear. A casual dress is priced at 12,000 kyats, while an evening dress could go up to 100,000 kyats.
ACCESSORIES CHARLES & KEITH (SINGAPORE) Charles & Keith is renowned for trendy shoes and handbags for women. From flats to stilettos, casual to party, and from totes to slings, this store has got them all. Pay a visit, and you will find something you need. Shoes start at 45,000 kyats for a pair.
CLARKS (UK) Clarks footwear symbolises quality around the world. Their focus is on formal and classic designs. Leather shoes for men will cost upwards of 125,000 kyats, while women’s shoes will cost upwards of 100,000 kyats.
PEDRO (SINGAPORE) Pedro has a mix of stylish bags and shoes: slings, totes, clutches, wallets, ballet shoes, sandals and stilettos. There are also shoes and messenger bags for men. A bag may cost around 75,000 to 80,000 kyats, while women’s shoes start at 85,000 kyats and men’s styles at 100,000 kyats.
HAVAIANAS (BRAZIL) Headed to Ngwe Saung for the weekend? Drop by Havaianas first to pick up a pair (or several) of cool-looking flip-flops. The product offering ranges from their classic patterns to special editions, such as those with embellishments. They also have some kids-sized pairs. Prices start at 18,000 kyats.
CROCS (USA) The jury is still out on whether Crocs are functional or fashionable or neither or both. But they’re still very popular among kids and grown-ups alike. In Crocs’ Yangon stores you’ll find their most popular styles in a range of colours. Prices start 55,000 kyats for flipflop styles or 70,000 kyats for a pair of women’s shoes.
CONVERSE (USA) For everyone who’s ever needed Chuck Taylors, worry not, because Converse is here. Besides sneakers, you’ll also find a handful of flip flops, tees and backpacks. Prices start at 43,000 kyats for a pair of sneakers.
BATA (SWITZERLAND) Bata stocks a range of shoe styles (casual, sporty, formal) from several brands for both genders – Bata, North Star, Marie Claire and even Weinbrenner. Prices vary, and generally start from 35,000 kyats for a casual pair.
YANGON’S MULTI-BRAND FASHION STORES Yangon has a few multi-brand stores that stock international brands, where you could go for very specific purposes. While MK Fashion has well-known brands such as Arrow, Jockey and Nike, HBT has lesserknown brands but it does have Fitflops. The Rag & Denim store is another casual wear store with t-shirts, shorts and denims, while The Avenue is the shopping destination for red carpet events with brands like Hugo Boss and BCBG Max Azria.

Larger Sedona Hotel Has a Large Buffet In D'Cuisine BY CHARLIE MICHIO TURNER
WHAT IT IS - The field of hotel buffets in Yangon just got a bit more crowded. Sedona Hotel's international buffet, D'Cuisine, has been officially open for over a month and close to finding its identity amongst established hotels who have been in the all-you-can-eat game for years. Chef Luka Chua Lai Huat experience in fine dining and commitment to high-end ingredients should minimize any growing pains... The price at D'Cuisine is $33 USD, $36 USD for weekends. ATMOSPHERE - Modern and subtly ritzy. The interior designers went out of his or her way to avoid direct overhead lighting or any exuberant displays of color or kitsch. The dim lighting gives the place more of a mature vibe compared to the family-oriented buffets at competing hotels. With that said, you will see several kids politely browsing the buffet counters on the night. I have been told that their energy turns up more once the live entertainment breaks out. For the week I went, traditional Indian dancers were scheduled to groove around the restaurant to music from a sitar. RECOMMENDATIONS - The sushi at Sedona has to be some of the best in Yangon. Generous portions of tuna, salmon, yellow tail and octopus were incredibly fresh and not frosted- a common issue for hotels that opt to ice the fish fillets rather than the whole fish....The other standout of the night was the western butcher area. Massive cuts of roast beef, duck and pork were available with an assortment of gravy and caramelized fruit or potatoes. You could leave the counter with a plate reminiscent of American Thanksgiving or the medieval era, all dependent on the meat to vegetable ratio. FINAL THOUGHTS - As with any buffet, you could and should leave with heavy-breath and a full stomach. For that reason, dinner may be the best to come since slipping into a food coma is acceptable during the night hours. Brazilian will be theme for July!
