SMASHED, SPICY, SURREAL D’PENYETZ MYANMAR BY MOE HAY MAR WHAT IT IS - A franchise restaurant from Singapore situated in Sein Gay Har Super Centre on Pyay Road. Widely known for its Original Smashed Fried Chicken, D’PENYETZ serves authentic Indonesian cuisine. ATMOSPHERE - You’ll soak up the vibrant ambience as you enter this restaurant. The soothing background music, the fall-inspired interior design, and the welcoming staff will guarantee your dining experience flows as smoothly as possible. RECOMMENDATIONS - For drinks, my dining partner and I were recommended Ice Rebena Frizzy with Longa (1,500 ks) - a sweet and fizzy, Singaporean-style soda pop and Ice Bandung Rose Syrup (1,500 ks). Our first signature dish was Ayam Penyet Asli - Original Smashed Fried Chicken (4,000 Ks). It was prepped with fried Burmese bean curds and a side of Terasi sauce. The mildly spicy sauce and the tender chicken along with its smashed bits that taste like coconut cream, create a satisfying symphony in terms of sweet and spicy flavors. Next, we were served one of the set items on D’PENYETZ’s latest promotional menu: Nasi Lemak Singapore (4,000 Ks). This dish consisted of chicken wing, yellow fish, Ikan Bilis, anchovies, and coconut rice. To me, the crunchy yellow fish was especially exceptional when dipped in Terasi sauce; slightly less flavorful without. As for the soup, we were served Sop Buntut (5,500 Ks)—ox-tail soup with carrots, radishes, and onions. Because I added a few drops of lemon to the soup, I enjoyed its smoky flavor with a tangy aftertaste. For dessert, we were served Pisang Stick Coklat Keju (3,000 Ks)—fried banana sticks drizzled with chocolate syrup and cheese sprinkles. This soft, crisp confection offered us a sweet retreat from the spicy food and was a pleasant finishing touch to our mealtime. FINAL THOUGHTS - I believe it is safe to conclude that my first time trying Indonesian cuisine went smoothly thanks to D’PENYETZ. The majority of its dishes are overall delicious, spicy, and reasonably-priced. I genuinely enjoyed all the recommendations on the menu—especially the smashed fried chicken and the fried banana sticks. D’PENYETZ is definitely a place that’s worth revisiting.
