New Openings
SHARKY’S
now opening on Pansodan Street BY NIKITA BLACK Well, I can tell you that everyone in our office is very excited: the Artisan Fine Food institution is setting up a new outlet in Downtown! SHARKY’S is currently bringing back to life a 1900s department store right next to RTH and having seen the work in progress, we can say that the final result will be magnificent. The shop is already open and is fully operating, while the rest of the refurbishing goes on behind the scenes. The broad range of SHARKY’S products can be purchased from the boutique, including the iconic breads, cheeses, yogurts, jams and of course ice-creams. The restaurant and the bar will open in a few weeks’ time, offering outdoor seating as well as exciting additions to the menu. Expect novelties such as burgers, rotisserie chicken, salads as well as lighter treats like humus and Mexican specialities. They will also serve coffee and later on, SHARKY’S will also greet customers for breakfast. Finally, the bar will boast a quality offering of wines and beers. LISTING – SHARKY’S ? No. 81 Pansodan Street, Kyauktada Township t 01 252 702, 01 370 971 P 9am – 7pm (until fully set-up)
Review
1920 INDUSTRIAL RESTAURANT FEAST LIKE A KING
BY NIKITA BLACK WHAT IT IS The 1920 Industrial Restaurant is the European Restaurant of the Vintage Luxury Yacht Hotel. It offers daily changing set meals from 5 to 8 courses. Those who wish to relish need to book three hours in advance. ATMOSPHERE The 1920 Restaurant itself is lit with modern industrial lights which reflect against the large windows overlooking the river. The boat is often described as luxurious in a somewhat cute or tacky or casino way: I can only suggest you drop in for a visit to make your own opinion. RECOMMENDATION All five dishes were refined, fresh and gave a heart-warming feel. The herbs, the cooking methods and the choice of ingredients sent me back to France I cannot present all of them here so I'll stick to a starter, a main dish and the dessert. For starters, the chef brought out scallops with cauliflower and asparagus, sprinkled with crispy salt. They were braised on the outside and juicy inside and the specks of salt paired well with the sweetness of the cauliflower. The poultry dish consited in grilled chicken breast with a lemon coating and a balsamic reduction with a classic and delicious tortilla, which was neither dry nor runny and showcased zucchini which just melted in the mouth. Apple pie and vanilla ice-cream were finally presented, with a slivering of rose milk. The pie still needs to be perfected, as the crust was too thick and the apples too rare but other than that, everything else was more than satisfactory. FINAL THOUGHTS Definitely good value for money. Dining here requires plenty of time to really enjoy all the dishes without having to send them back because it is just too much food. Bring friends who eat a lot and a shawl to protect yourself from the strong Air Con. 1920 Industrial Restaurant No.6,Botahtaung Jetty, Botahtaung Township,Yangon,Myanmar 0951-9010555, 0951-9010536 | 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
