A Night Out In Yangon
There are many ways to have a blast while taking yourself and your friends on a night out, from places to eat before you bar hop to where you can stop for snacks after some well-deserved drinks. Whether you are on a short vacation or you live here, we have put together a list of fresh venues that have popped up recently to the old timers still worth revisiting. You have only two nights to show your friend what a night out is like in Yangon? Here is a guide to a weekend that covers everything! A WEEKEND THAT COVERS EVERYTHING
 DAY 1 - Local night out Start with a nice dinner at Rangoon Tea House in the heart of colonial downtown, the trendy traditional teashop with decoration and food at an international standard. For local street life head off to Chinatown. Past the night market, look for New Kosan on 19th Street and its very cheap drinks. Should you still feel hungry you can always order some skewers and vegetables to barbecue (buy fried crickets from a vendor, go on!!). For hype drinks where the high-class locals hang out, check out Escape Gastro Bar on Kanyeiktha Road. To get the party really going, take a cab to the Yangon International Hotel Compound. A dancing hide out is lo-
cated nearby, Inya Bar, local style: loud techno music pumping for girls of the night. The Roof Alchemy will definitely make an impression on your visitor friends: expect molecular drinks where cocktails are served on a plate, with young pumped locals smoking on shishas. After that, J-One, Brave Photo Credit: 7th Joint Bar Bar and Café Liberal will welcome you for late night clubbing, local-style. Feeling hungry after hours wandering about bars and clubs? Head off to the good old local Pwint Thit San Food Center & Family KTV on Shwe Gone Daing, open 24 hours.
DAY 2 - Expat night out We recommend you start with an early drink at Novotel's latest addition, Le Cellier wine bar, to enjoy the breath-taking view of Shwedagon Pagoda. If you are uptown, the Piano Bar set on Parami Hotel's rooftop should do the trick but if you are in downtown go up the Sakura Tower to their Sky Bistro and catch the best bird’s eye view of whole south Yangon at sunset. By then, it should be time for nice tapas and cocktails, at The Lab. In downtown, grab a bite at Gekko Japanese restaurant or Tin Tin Mexican inspired restaurant in downtown if you wish to mingle with Yangon's international expat crowds. And then, off to the east: you’ll find reggae music and happy crowds at 7th Joint, Mexican-Asian fusion foods and sun-licked cocktails at Fahrenheit. There are no stylish late night bars open after 11pm nowadays, but this may change in the coming months. The best way to find a party is to log onto www.myanmore.com and check our events calendar. Every last Saturday of the month, don't miss the FAB Party at J-One! Have fun! For more details information on venues, please go to MYANMORE RESTAURANT DIRECTORY on our website.

Myanmar Extravaganza Rose Garden Hotel By Diana Huysman
What it is This is a special menu of the Myanmar restaurant set in the lobby of the Rose Garden hotel. To enjoy this dinner set, reservations must be made one day in advance. It is an exquisite Myanmar food experience. Atmosphere The lobby is a huge hall with tall white columns, surprisingly cozy. You will wish you have the same carpet in your bedroom! There is also a bar and a semi-open kitchen where you can see the chef at his best.At the back of the lobby there is an ‘Arabian Nights’ theme place where customers can enjoy a drink, coffee or dinner with soft, live music played on Myanmar instruments. Wifi is available, free and very fast. Recommendations Excluding the ‘amuse bouche’, all the dishes are made with Myanmar typical ingredients and cuisine style, with an extra touch of sophistication unique in Yangon. All 5 dishes were executed with obvious attention to detail and presentation, except perhaps the third course. The first course consisted in five Myanmar Tapas including the chef’s own interpretation of fish caviar and street salty pancakes, a Shan Tofu, a very fresh and flavored organic salad, as well as Sago worms, as the cherry on the cake. The second course was a fish broth served in an empty coconut. It was extremely well presented and helped to smoothly transition to the rest of the meal. The third course represented Indian spiced river lobster (a large shrimp), accompanied by grilled chicken breast which was chewy. The fourth course was a Chin Style Braised Pork Chitterling with wok fried garlic flowers and mushrooms topped with two diferrent kinds of dried deer. This is probably the chef’s signature dish and a true culinary experience. The dessert included 2 jaggery lollipops, fresh Tamarind juice, a very savory sticky rice cake and a Myanmar version of ‘macaron’. Final thoughts This restaurant is a must for the ‘gourmets’ and ‘gourmands’ who want to experience revisited traditional Myanmar cuisine. The chef is a kitchen talent to watch! 171 Upper Pansodan Road, Mingalar Taung Nyunt, Yangon. (95) 1 371992, (95) 1 371993

Singapore-style Chinese Jin Bao Seafood Restaurant by YUKO MASKAY WHAT IT IS Jin Bao Seafood Restaurant is a Singapore-style Chinese restaurant with an unpretentious atmosphere and food that is also popular as a take-out. It was started by U Than Win, a Myanmar-Chinese foodie-at-heart who lived in Singapore for over 20 years. Known for its seafood dishes and dim sum, the restaurant takes pride in attracting a crowd that treasures high-quality dining in a business or family-type atmosphere. ATMOSPHERE Having opened three years ago, it gives off the air of an established venue with its perfected menu and return patrons, especially embassies and business people. The venue is ideal for an event or a gathering of big groups, and very popular among Chinese and the Japanese crowd. A basic knowledge of Chinese cuisine would definitely help your experience. RECOMMENDATION Their most popular dish is spicy and salted seafood dishes along with its pork ribs and fish hot pot. We were served a fish head hot pot, which was heart-warming. With its special-flavored vegetable broth and spices, it can be also ordered with fish cakes. The mutton clay pot, the Mongolian style is unique to this place, and its soft tender slices was mouth-watering, and filling. The place also serves an array of vegetarian dishes like the sweet and sour mapo tofu with meat-textured vegetarian protein. Dim sum is served from 6:30am to 2:30pm. Dessert was freshly fried white sesame balls with black beans and Guilin Gao, which is a jelly-like pudding with honey drizzled on top. Great finish to the meal. Price range: Dishes between 2,000 Ks to 10,000 Ks. Mapo tofu (3,500 Ks), Pork ribs (6,000 Ks), Sesame bun (800 Ks) and shrimp dumpling (800 Ks). FINAL THOUGHTS This place is best for repeat customers who live close by, since the meal has home-made feel to it, and there are plenty of dishes to choose from with different ranges in price. Definitely a must for those wanting a Singapore-style Chinese food for a reasonable price, whether you’ve tried it before or not. Come with your friends, family or business associates. No 61B, Min Ye Kyaw Swar Road (Cross street Baho Road), Ahlone Township, Yangon. Phone: 01227195 Opening Hours: Daily 10:30am to 10:30pm
