Oldtown White Coffee Cafe: Bringing Real Malaysian Taste to Myanmar BY MYANMORE If you have ever been to Malaysia, it’s unlikely that you have never tried Oldtown White Coffee. The coffee is popular among the local Malaysian with the setup of Oldtown White Coffee Cafe for over 200 outlets all over the country and overseas including two new outlets in Myanmar -- on Yaw Min Gyi Street and at Junction City. My guest and I visited the Junction City branch one fine afternoon. Divided into two zones--indoor and outside, the indoor zone is decorated in colonial style building coffee shop style. The outside area is more open and spacious with long sofa, perfect for group of friends and family. The cafe offers two separate set menu, which are breakfast till 11 a.m. and lunch, and dinner menu. We opted for Nasi Lemak with Tumeric Fried Chicken (5,900 ks), which is one of the signatures for the cafe. The portion is generous. The chicken is well marinated and juicy but not too oily. Though it shows as a spicy dish, the paste is surprisingly not too spicy for local taste. Next on the line is one their specialties “Bak Kut Teh” with Rice (6,300 ks). You will only find Bak Kut Teh at Oldtown Cafe only outside of Malaysia as it is a halal-brand there.The broth is sweet and the pork is cooked till it turns soft. We ended our meal with Oldtown White Coffee hot (2,600 ks) and cold (2,900 ks). The coffee is freshly prepared (not from a sachet), giving distinguish smell and taste for the hot one, which can hardly be found here. .
