Kaleidoscope ‘Kaleidoscope’ exhibits twelve hand-selected artists that have helped create, inspire and lead the Urban - Contemporary Art movement in Spain over the past ten years. The collection analyses the influences, patterns and trends that can be found in Spanish street art and how their culture, location and heritage have helped develop their truly unique and international voice. A display of photographs additionally documents a selection of the artists’ exterior works and allows us to comprehend the journey from city streets to that of their setting on the surrounding gallery walls.

Although now an integral name of the Barcelona street art scene, Zosen was born in Buenos Aires, immigrating to Spain in his early teens. His trademark geometric patterns and symbols, painted in vibrant neons and often on a monumental scale, are instantly recognisable and offer a playful social criticism, expressing the anti-authoritarian spirit of his early days in the punk movement.

Up until 2000 Kenor was focussed on more traditional urban art, obsessed with typography, logos, and textual experimentation. Yet, as the Barcelona movement gathered pace, Kenor found himself wrapped up within the changes, forming designs which functioned as “parallel worlds, dreams, hopes, illusions, questions, options and exits.

Born in Chile in 1981, Txemy moved to the Canary Islands after just one year, where he was later to forge his artistic style. You only have to take a glance at his work to realise the significance of colour. His compositions can initially seem to make no sense, however, when finished, you can clearly perceive a strong essence of purpose and meaning. Txemy creates his work from observing everything and everybody around him, turning the ordinary in to the extraordinary with an explosion of colour.

Pez, literally ‘fish’ in Spanish, started painting in 1999 on the outskirts of Barcelona. Initially tagging his work with his name, his signature soon evolved into a fish. While searching for a universal language to communicate positivity with his audiences, he found the smile to be a powerful motif and, by simply applying this to his existing imagery, the iconic and infectious characters of El Pez were born. In a few years his artwork spread throughout Barcelona, and soon he began to travel to paint the walls of other European cities. His subsequent rapid rise to international recognition he credits to his perseverance in the street and the straight and universal language of the smile.

Demsky was born in Elche, Spain. Since discovering graffiti in the early 90’s, he has spent over 15 years developing, executing and refining a distinctive style. Demsky is now considered to be one of Europe’s graffiti giants for his pure versatility and attention to detail. From a small town filled with palm trees, he was not content with simply painting within the confines his city and surrounding areas and made it his mission to, piece by piece, ‘fill the world with colour’. Demsky has a rare ability to transcend styles effortlessly whilst bringing a unique edge to his work that makes him memorable in a movement where the competition is fierce.
