Taya Wescott is the Spring Creek Mechanical Performing Arts Student of the Month! Taya is an impressive senior at American Leadership Academy, and is actively involved in the theatre program. Not only does she sing, dance, and act with natural enthusiasm, she also demonstrates noteworthy leadership as the student director for this year’s competition One-Act. She picked up her directing skills and ability to complete a project from start to finish from her Mom, who ran a ballroom dancing company when Taya was young. Even at age 12, Taya easily took on the role of student director in a junior play. At age 17, she became the youngest manager at Maurice’s in the University Mall (even though their policy is no managers younger than 18 - Taya proved to be the exception).

She is ALA’s Sterling Scholar for vocal music and is a mezzo soprano. Taya's roles at ALA include Fiona in Shrek, Jo in Little Women, Lady Macbeth and Viola in Shakesplosion!, Leonato in Much Ado About Nothing, and Emily Webb in Our Town. Her awards include a first place medal in pantomime at State Drama in 2021, second place in Duo/Trio scenes at the Utah Shakespeare Festival competition in 2021, and first place in Duo/ Trio Dance also at USF in 2021. On top of all that, she has a 3.9 GPA.

This girl has drive to see all her ideas to fulfillment. When she decides to do anything, she does it 100%. She usually drops jaws in the process. At age 15, she picked up a ukulele and utilized YouTube to learn how to play it on her own. Accomplishing that, she did the same with the guitar. In one day, she self-taught herself how to play, composing a song with lyrics and recording it. The final product (an mp3 file) was then presented to her mother, who had no idea what was coming.

Taya is ambitious and thrives with a no-fear personality. For the past year, she has been selling her own clothing line with self-designed logos. She created her own website (rosemaryapparel.com) and researched e-commerce methods all on her own. She then presented her plan to her parents, who run a screenprinting and embroidery shop. They now fulfill her orders. Roller skating is a favorite activity and Taya is on the rolling skating derby team. She also sketches and paints (again, thanks to YouTube). Taya will be attending Snow College in the fall of 2022, majoring in theatre with an emphasis in directing. She also plans to minor in business. We know this girl is going to go places. She takes herself wherever she sets her sights on.
