Lions Clubs Peace Poster Contest deadline is near

Lions Clubs have until Oct. 1 to request Peace Poster kits for the 2020-21 contest, now underway.

“The deadline to submit posters on this year’s topic, ‘Peace through Service,’ is just around the corner,” says District 26-M3 Contest Chair Mary Jane Clark of Warrenton.

Schools and youth groups interested in hosting a contest for their organizations can contact Clark at: maryjaneclakr0@ gmail.com or 636-359-0627, or contact their local Lions Club to learn how to enter the contest. Clark is the chair for the Warrenton area, as well as the district, and can help schools and clubs connect for sponsorship. Each Lions Club should submit its winning local entries to District Governor Bob Noelsch of Bowling Green, no later than Nov. 15. Club deadlines preceding this date may vary.

“Give youth around the world the challenge and the opportunity to express what ‘Peace through Service’, means to them,” says Clark. “The grand prize winner may receive a $5,000 cash award!”

She also reminds Lions that there are other student rewards. Annaline Schieffer, a student at Crossroads Christian Connection Cooperative, received more than $250 total in awards and gifts from: her school’s contest sponsor club, the Warrenton Lions, District 26 M-3 Lions, and the Missouri Lions organization. Her entry won the 2019-2020 local, district and

Twenty-three additional International merit award winners also receive $500 awards. The 24 International finalist posters may be exhibited at international conventions next summer and then displayed at Lions Club International Headquarters in Chicago. Annually the contest garners approximately 600,000 entries from across the globe.

Only a Lions Club can sponsor the contest, which can be held in partnership with a local school or organized youth group. Youth ages 11-13 (as of Nov. 15) may enter through the groups sponsored by their Lions Club. Clubs can sponsor multiple groups and contests.

Artwork must be original, on a flexible material no smaller than 13” x 20” and no larger than 20” x 24”. Material should be appropriate to be rolled for shipment in a mailing tube; no laminating, matting or framing. All art media (i.e. ink, charcoal, chalk, pastel, etc.) are accepted. Other requirements also apply.

Lions Clubs can purchase Peace Poster Contest kits from the Club Supplies Sales Department at International Headquarters. Visit www.lionsclubs. org/peaceposter for more information and to order kits, or contact Clark at: maryjaneclark0@ gmail.com or 636-359-0627. The cost is $11.95 per kit plus shipping.

“Time to enter the 2020-21 contest is short. If you don’t have the opportunity to participate this year, a new contest begins next spring,” says Clark. Kits for the next contest should be available from the Club Supplies Sales Department after Jan. 15, 2021.

Contest themes, rules, requirements and deadlines are set by Lions Clubs International.
