For me to feel the same about fall and winter as I do about warmer times, something has to be there that makes it all worth it. So, what is there in these two seasons to look forward to? I went looking… First, color! How lovely is the beautiful changing foliage? Or, the cold winter vista of snow on water with a tree line beyond? And how about scents and flavors; the taste (and aroma) of cinnamon and nutmeg in a good apple cake? Warm, cozy nights by a fire watching Harry Potter movies—AGAIN! I find peace in anticipating these moments as I’m sure do many people. With our Fall/ Winter issue of Inspired!, we went looking for the expression of the cooler months in food, gifts and weddings. We thought it would be fun to feature the weddings of two of our favorite Eastern Shore photographers, Coty Jones and Jillian 4 | ISSUE N o . 4

I wanted it to be a total surprise, so her sister provided me with some insider information about the style of ring she liked and I went from there. The hardest part about the actual proposal was ensuring that we were both in the correct spot at the correct time. When the clock is ticking towards proposal time, the photographers are in place, and you have a girl taking a shower, you never know if you're going to make it in time. Fortunately, Meghan was ready in record time and I actually ended up stalling for a little bit before heading to our destination.

eastern shore M OV I E N I G H T When most people think of the Eastern Shore, they probably don’t think Hollywood! Sure, we have wonderful, scenic vistas, charming small towns and gorgeous sunsets but does that immediately say “cinema” to you? Well, if it doesn’t, you may be among those who will be surprised by the abundance of movies that have been filmed here. It may be our best kept secret, but Hollywood has discovered the Eastern Shore and we’ve been attracting movie makers and movie stars for a while now. We’ve done a little research and found some of our favorite films that feature this beautiful place we call home. Whether you’re hosting a movie night for your girls or just looking for a flick for a night in with your favorite guy, fall is a perfect time to grab the popcorn and cozy up next to your DVD player for a little local flavor, Tinseltown style!!
FAILURE TO LAUNCH (2006) Sarah Jessica Parker and her co-star Matthew McConaughey spent time filming in Easton for this story about a suave momma’s boy who lives at home rather than start a family of his own. RIDERS (2001) This film is set on the Eastern Shore, and writer-director Doug Sadler is also a longtime Easton resident. The film was featured at the 2001 Maryland Film Festival.
THE RUNAWAY BRIDE (1999) Julia Roberts and Richard Gere star in this movie set in a fictional Maryland town, Hale, but was actually filmed in real Maryland towns including Berlin and Snow Hill in Worcester County!

M E S W: As a wedding photographer, did you have a hard time choosing a photographer to shoot your own wedding? C o t y : Of course! There are so many talented photographers out there and I love so many of them that it was hard to select just one to document our wedding. I wanted a photographer with a fine art style and the ability to put up with our quirky families! And I think I hit the nail on the head with Kate Ann!

C : I think that being a vendor myself made the entire process pretty simple. We only had four short months to put together our wedding and we were able to pull it off without a hitch. We knew which vendors we wanted to use, the process of getting it all done efficiently, and with being in the industry for a little while I understood the ins and out of how to knock everything off our to-do list. I can honestly say there were no difficult parts of the planning process! If I was
to choose something to deem it ‘difficult’ it would probably be that we got married in a very short amount of time so with selecting our vendors we wanted to make sure that everyone was available and we got very lucky! Everything went rather smoothly in the planning process which might be because we got married in the “slow season”!
M : Did your husband join in the planning? C : Yes! Lewis had a few requests for the wedding planning but other wise he said “whatever I wanted”, which was sweet but I wanted to make sure it was everything he wanted too! We went over different designs details of the wedding

I did not want to look back and have memories of stressing out about things that might have not gone completely to plan, but to look back and remember everyone there who loved us and supported our crazy love story and every second that evolved that day. Thats the only way to do it—just go with the flow and make some amazing memories! 30 | ISSUE N o . 4
M : Looking back, what was the favorite part of your day? C : There are so many! But by far my most favorite part of the day was walking down the aisle arm in arm with my Daddy, savoring every single second and telling him to walk a little slower, soaking in the fact that I and walking towards my future husband and man of my wildest dreams. I will never forget that moment. Another would be when Lewis and I paused during the ceremony to look out in the crowd at all the people who loved us, and that right there, that took my breath away.
M : What advice do you have for other brides looking for a

I wanted to have someone I was comfortable with since they would be around me the entire day. I decided to call upon my good buddy, Peter Pousard. We met many years ago when I lived in Los Angeles. He lives in Sweden so I actually booked him before I decided where I wanted to get married. Having someone I felt comfortable with and did great work was the most important part for me.

I’m all for incorporating seasonal details into your wedding day. Peonies in May? Rosé in July? Pies in November? Yes, yes, and yes please! But I’m also a big believer in not letting the season dominate your day. There are plenty of ways to give a nod to the time of year without going overboard. With fall right around the corner, here are three tips for tastefully embracing the season on your wedding day.

The scents and colors of the season are all around—in the grasses, the trees, the sky. Look to capitalize on that existing scenery when deciding on your ceremony backdrop, reception location or first-look setting. It’s a subtle and seamless way to tie in the season, and—bonus—it requires little to no effort on the actual wedding day.
K E E P O R A N G E TO A MINIMUM Yes, fall signifies Halloween and changing leaves, but that doesn’t mean orange has to be a staple wedding color of the season. From deep reds to soft yellows to muted whites, the fall flower color palette is as gorgeous as it gets. Consider discussing seasonal blooms with your florist before choosing your wedding colors; you may get inspired by a hue you haven’t yet considered. Keeping your blooms in season also will help save money, especially since several Eastern Shore florists grow seasonal blooms right on their farms.

From bourbon bars to cigar stations to fire pits, there are plenty of ways to help your guests stay toasty during your celebration. A few small touches can go a long way in ensuring your guests leave with warm hands and warm hearts.

the perfect fall favor
CAN DY A PPLES If your’re looking for a little something sweet to send away with your guests, we’ve got the perfect thing...candy apples! They’re a fun (and in-season) DIY, they make for a gorgeous display, and are a total crowd pleaser! We paired up with Melissa at Bake My Day and tested our skills in the kitchen to make these fun and flavorful favors! With endless color and topping possibilities, these little beauties can compliment any fall or winter wedding!
1/2 c light corn syrup
Skewers
2 c sugar
Candy thermometer
3/4c water
A pot
Food coloring
Baking sheet lined with foil
Toppings
Pastry brush and bowl of water
Skewer your apples from the top. Combine corn syrup, sugar and water and heat over medium-high. Stir thoroughly to dissolve sugar and add in food coloring (if desired). Once the mixture is boiling, stop stirring. You may use the pastry brush to brush the sides of the pot with warm water to prevent crystals from forming. Simmer the candy until it reaches 290 F (143 C). Once you’ve reached temperature, hold your apples by the stick and dip until completely covered. If you’re using additional toppings, roll apple in the topping(s) of choice before the shell hardens. Place the finished apples on the paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate to cool. Enjoy!
