SESSION TWO

DISCOVER YOUR GIFTS There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 1 Corinthians 12:4–6 LEADER OVERVIEW This session will look at the process of your students discovering the gifts God has given them. Exploring various interests and moving outside their comfort zone can help them identify their unique talents, which at times takes trial and error. WELCOME Choose one of the following or do both with your group as time allows: GAME: Blind Detective XX On a piece of paper, each student will write a characteristic they believe they have or would like to have.

Leader Tip: Suggest that students consider personality traits or a gifting they are proud of.

Make the students aware that these will be shared with the group. XX Collect the papers and redistribute them at random. Without looking at their new paper, students will tape them to their foreheads. XX Students have five minutes to move around the room and ask questions to help them guess the characteristic on their forehead. XX Each student may only ask three questions of each peer and must move on if they do not guess what is on their paper.

STARTER Q&A XX Would you rather be good at a lot of things or excellent at only one thing? XX Imagine you woke up one morning with a superpower. What superpower would you want and why? XX If you were so wealthy that you never had to work a job, what would you do with your time?

PRAYER & BIBLE SAY // Dear God, thank You for giving each of us unique gifts! Help us to have the courage to explore the passions and talents You have instilled in us. As we continue to learn, let us discover more about how we can use our gifts to glorify You. Amen.

SESSION TWO

DISCOVER YOUR GIFTS READ // Read or ask a student to read 1 Corinthians 12:4–6, then discuss thoughts on the passage. VIDEO PLAY // Session Two Video (Click Here) DISCUSS // The video will prompt group discussion for the following questions: XX How have your background and past experiences helped to shape and identify your abilities and passions? XX Have you ever felt like a failure because the outcome of an event wasn’t what you wanted or expected? For example, maybe you didn’t win a competition you thought you should have. How did that experience shape or influence you in the future? XX Has a parent, teacher, or leader helped you discover or develop your gifts? What was it like interacting with them? XX Second Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV). How does it make you feel knowing that those gifts are already in you? How can you use those gifts, rather than a spirit of fear, to guide you as you discover what else God has for you? CHALLENGE SAY // It can be easy to let fear keep you from using your gifts, but don’t let it hold you back. Take a step out of your comfort zone and discover the gifts God wants to reveal in your life. TAKEAWAY SAY // Talk to a parent or leader you trust about skills or talents they see in you. Discuss and write down opportunities to get outside your comfort zone and explore how to use those skills or talents. CLOSING // Conclude your time together by leading in prayer or asking for a student volunteer to pray over the group. Remember to allow time for group members to share special needs and prayer requests as well.
