I usually would start this letter in a completely different manner, but much has changed during the past few months. I never thought it would come to this, but regretfully it did. It’s funny in the beginning of the lbb, it was widely assumed, that I would end up the cause for any issues resulting in its dovnfall. I euen doubted it’s curb appeal back then. After a year, I never thought I would have had to pay more attention to the one closest to me. it happened and I’ue moued on from the incident. Welcome to “My Little Black Book” - las vegas, or just simply My Vegas Little Black Book. It’s all the same concept but vith a major overhaul. I originally created the little black book as an outlet to showcase not only our community but someday, others in a non stereotypical manner. To try to bridge the gap that was so blatantly obvious when it came to the las vegas scene. To sometimes leave the seriousness of regular everyday living at home and just have some fun. my mission has neuer been the intent of trying to replace or ‘dovn talk’ any other publications. That last statement vas directed at someone……..nocd? I would like to first thank those who approached me offering their help and guidance during these last few months. I tried to list everyone on the back cover of this issue. To publicly show how I will be forever grateful for your support. I also would like to thank all of my advertisers, my friends, who not only believed in my little idea but also in my integrity. Thank you and see you next month.

From: Anonymous To: Las Vegas LGBT Community There are a handful of people who have been on the scene longer than I have, but very few. Some are the kindest, most decent folks you would ever hope to meet, who conduct every aspect of their personal and business affairs with dignity and integrity. In addition, there are those whose ethical paradigm is so twisted they are almost sociopaths. Almost? Make that downright. The Gay Mafia, a small but powerful group of individuals, whom, through their businesses or organizations, have repeatedly manipulated and abused well-meaning but naïve gay and gay-sympathetic Las Vegans. They are easy to spot. They are the ones who are always front-and-center, waving pom-poms and fighting for the cause. It is the fabled wolf in sheep’s clothing. The metaphoric snake in the grass. I have seen these people spread lies, rumors, and innuendo that pit business owners against one another. I have watched them blackball competitors by sheer economic force and/or political schmoozing. I have witnessed theft and embezzlement from supposedly non-profit organizations. (I say “supposedly” because somebody is always drawing a paycheck.) I have observed the seizure and control of lucrative events such as the Pride Festival and National Coming Out Day. I have stood by helplessly as friends were thrown under the Escalade because they dared to speak up against these self-appointed “leaders.” And that’s the kicker: These are – largely – the very people who claim to care about gays. The ones who go around shrieking about “unity in the community.” The vocal spokespeople who appear on television and try to “educate” the hetero world that its homo counterpart is one big happy family who are somehow morally superior because they look out for one another. The Harvey Milk wannabes who do nothing but milk the system to pad their bank accounts and expand their power base. Like any organization, The Gay Mafia has had personnel changes over the decades. Some move on. Some die. Some are forced out of the game. Some of the old timers are still around. They own businesses, run non-profits, organize fundraisers, operate media outlets, publish books, and throw parties. However, the difference between the villains and the innocent is this: The innocent don’t have an angle. They’re not trying to maneuver and connive and conspire in order to get their way. And even more importantly, the innocent do not shut you out. They are not afraid of losing power, because power is not their goal.
8
The villains, on the other hand, will do whatever they can; to squelch anyone they feel is impinging on their turf, because, of course, that turf is their only reason for being. I have rubbed elbows with The Gay Mafia, and have never felt welcome. I am looked upon with a silent suspicion, sort of an unspoken, “He’s not one of us” vibe. They’re right, I’m not. I don’t feel homosexuality is a unifying factor any more than heterosexuality, and it’s a crazy proposition to assume that all straight people share a common bond in their straightness. Why would gays? Another wedge is the disingenuousness I sense from a room full of well-heeled individuals who complain about being oppressed. How can you cry, “Discrimination!” when you’re driving a late-model Benz, sipping fine wine and sporting a Gucci watch? I have nothing against financial success; in fact I’m all for it. But I don’t declare my subjugation. I don’t believe I’m part of a spat-upon minority. I consider my orientation to be but one small slice of the pie, and could never construct an entire identity around it. I know better than to get explicit, but it’s only fair to acknowledge there are those who ought not to be confused with the scallywags, men and women who are doing or have done the right thing for the right reasons. You’re the real deal, and you know who you are. You’re either trustworthy people or damn good actors, and I’m inclined to go with the former. God bless you for your efforts. Same with the shysters. You may hide them well, but you know your motives. It would be nice if you found the time to pencil in a little humility between the cocktail parties, but it’s hard to extend your hand in decency when you’re patting yourselves on the back or digging into the cookie jar. Shame on you. Keep forever vigilant. Beware phony smiles and assuaging platitudes. Fear not the gay-basher, but the gay who promises protection. And never sell your soul to the Las Vegas Gay Mafia. Caviar and Prada might be attractive, but it’s amazing how much they resemble carp and concrete once the sun goes down over Lake Mead.

Nevada‟s Department of Motor Vehicles has changed the procedure for allowing persons to change the gender marker on their driver licenses. The new procedure requires persons to have a licensed physician fill out Form DLD-136 and to submit this form to a DMV office for processing. This procedure replaces the DMV‟s former policy that required persons to submit documentation proving completion of genital surgery before receiving a driver license with a changed gender marker. DMV made this change in consultation with ACLU of Nevada, Equality Nevada, and other progressive advocacy groups and queer community members and allies.

Gender-bending sensation Courtney Act’s new single, Welcome to Disgraceland was inspired by her live stage show. Some of the biggest names in the world have seen her “Act” including George Michael and the Pussycat Dolls. Courtney made a named for herself in 2003, when after trying out and failing to get on Australian Idol as Shane Jenek, she returned for the next day’s audition as Courtney Act. Courtney’s explosive, energetic performing style and joyous personality resonated with audiences. With performances of songs like “You Don’t Own Me”, “W.O.M.A.N.” and “You Shook Me All Night Long”, the country was mesmerized and Australia had a new, slightly less conventional, sweetheart. Now Courtney is ready to take on the world. But is the world ready for candy-licious Courtney Act?
What made you come back in a dress after being rejected by Idol?
Yes. I think I may also be the first “out” competitor on any of the world’s Idols. I don’t believe any other hopeful has competed as an out artist. When the judges gave me the thumbs down as Shane I had this strange sense of knowing that I was suppose to be there. I marched out of the room excited about the fun that would occur the next day.
Are you the first drag personality to appear on Idol? What do you make of the Trans-Revolution that has exploded in the USA and the UK?
Drag personalities are colorful and interesting. We’re hyperreal. Courtney is like a female pop star with 25% more fabulousness. Did you always know you had an interest in drag?
I have always enjoyed dressing up and creating characters. When I was a 14 I contrived a birthday invite to a costume party so I could go as Wonder Woman. How has your family reacted to your choice of career?
I am sure they were slightly shocked at first, but they gave me the tools to be an independent thinker. They came to see me perform at Sydney Mardi Gras a few years ago. My Dad has a really big moustache so I was worried he would blend into the crowd looking like a member of the Village People. How do you define your music?
Fun electro/pop. The songs I write are about my world and experiences. I am a very positive and happy person and I think the meaning of life is to feel good, so I try and reflect that in my music. Any misperceptions about Courtney Act or Shane Jenek that you’d like to clear up now?
Shane is a boy who loves being a boy and who enjoys dressing up as Courtney and performing. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I often wonder that. As Courtney, I look like I’m about 30 years old. As Shane, I look like I am in my early 20’s. I am bound to hit puberty eventually and I wonder what that might mean for Courtney? What happens when twinks grow up For more information, visit www.courtneyact.com.

ARIES
MARCH 21--APRIL 19
Your mouth will get you in trouble, again. If it is not because you are telling a person off, by not thinking about what you are saying, it is because you are using your mouth (and tongue) at work in a naughty way during business hours.
TAURUS
APRIL 20--MAY 20
Your practicality is making you boring. You are like a condom, taking some of the pleasure out of fun. If you must drink to screw until you are sore, just do it! Just keep your heart in check.
GEMINI
MAY 21--JUN 20
CANCER
JUN 21--JUL 22
Ok, cheapskate, it's time for you to spend. You cannot expect to be the greatest lay your lover's best friend has ever had, if you do not show appreciation. Therefore, if you want to have public sex, you had better bust out the cash.
Sympathetic understanding Cancer, what a fool you look giving into an ex flame that hurts you. You do not deserve to take bull from anyone. Don‟t worry, you will find that lover that likes to cuddle and will baby you.
LEO
JUL 23--AUG 22
This month your vanity is causing you to receive “boo‟s” at club competitions. Also, the thing that you are trying to hide? You are busted! However, do not worry, prove you are bred to be a porn star and you will be forgiven. Want to give Leo a gift? Get them a good massage therapist or nude photographer.
VIRGO
AUG 23--SEP 22
LIBRA
SEP 23--OCT 22
Your hate for disorder is pissing your friends off and falling asleep during sex is not making you the favorite this month. Make it up to your friends by buying a round and, for your lover, make love outside and not in the shower, where it‟s „hygienic‟.
The difficulty you have with reality is catching up to you. Games, games, games is not only all you are playing but the theme of your month. Just remember, if you keep your head buried in between someone's head too long, how will you know if you like the person?
32
SCORPIO
OCT 23--NOV 21
Your lack of ethics and shrewdness is getting you what you want this month... and what you do not want. Be careful with carpet burns on your knees. You do not need your lover to ask you how they got there when you have wooden floors.
SAGITTARIUS
NOV 22--DEC 21
Your optimistic enthusiasm is making people think you are doing drugs excessively. Tone it down a little. Even though you get by on your luck because you have no talent, do not press your luck with cops.
CAPRICORN
DEC 22--JAN 19
Get out of your house and jump a cliff! Nah, just kidding, but really you do got to get out of that bubble you bubble person. I'm not talking about sex wise, because we all know you're screamers, I mean let yourself go and have FUN!
AQUARIUS
JAN 20--FEB 18
Your lying is going to get you in trouble, again, go figure. Keep your mouth closed this month and do what you do best: Turn people on by just walking in the door or be the
PISCES
FEB 19--MAR 20
Stop daydreaming and start taking part in life. The government is not following you. Trust me; the FBI and CIA do not think you are that interesting anyway. Be confident this month and talk to that hot someone.
