I went to the movies to wipe away the reality of my days at work, the sadness of people who saw my face instead of their loved ones, as they said their final good-bye. Often, I reworked the endings of the movies to suit my fancy, to suit my emotions, and I believed the writers often shortchanged their audience by leaving loose ends, or not caring about the investment I became a candy-stripper at the audience had made into the a local hospital, and found fictional character’s lives. If you haven’t had the pleasure of enjoying such a dining experience, then you must do yourself a favor and visit The Grove Pizza, Cucina, Wine, Market, & Charcuterie. The Grove was recently named the 2021 Diner’s Choice “Best Food in Martin County” via OpenTable. The restaurant has also won the prestigious “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator magazine for the past 2 years in a row — 2020 and 2021. Couple those accolades with the fact that The Grove has at least 4.5/5star reviews (or higher!) across 6 different review sites and you’ll recognize that the restaurant is truly something special. Perhaps The Grove is so exceedingly beloved because all of their sauces are made in-house, or because their produce arrives fresh daily. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that their award-winning thin, crispy crust pizza is hand-tossed with dough made fresh daily. The most likely answer, though, is a combination of all these small, yet vital details, with the fact that The Grove is a family-owned and operated restaurant dedicated to providing a unique, world class dining experience to their community. Indeed, locals who are familiar with The Grove’s extraordinary wine, cuisine, and overall dining experience are especially excited about the restaurant’s new lunch hours. The menu features 15 delicious options, ranging from salads and sandwiches to pasta, chicken, and charcuterie — all priced affordably at $15 or less! Abby and I sampled one lunch item, the Chopped Italian Salad ($14), and definitely encourage you to visit The Grove for your next midday meal based on this dish alone. The Chopped Italian is not only incredibly bright and delicious, with a house vinaigrette that has a “lovely pop,” but also perfectly sized to fill you up for the remainder of your day. It’s *via Open Table invigorating to eat SALADS because great attention SANDWICHES is given to every last MEALS detail, from the expertly CHARCUTERIE chopped veggies, prosciutto, and cheese to the chilled salad

TUESDAY-FRIDAY AHEAD

The Grove’s fresh scratch-kitchen dinner menu is comprised of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, along with Italian classics and creative regional reinterpretations. The restaurant also offers carb-conscious, gluten-friendly, and vegetarian fare. Abby and I struggled to contain ourselves from simply ordering everything on the menu before finally settling on two appetizers to begin: the Grove grazing board ($18) and 12” fig and prosciutto flatbread ($15). The grazing board’s components change based on seasonality, so it’s a starter worth ordering each time you visit the restaurant to appreciate a rotating selection of delicious, high quality meats and cheeses. Our favorite bite came from combining the “definitely high shelf ” prosciutto with a ball of creamy goat cheese and sweet, locally-harvested Hani honey — an instant transportation to the rolling hillsides in rural Italy. The fig and prosciutto flatbread is certainly the most innovative appetizer on the menu, with house-made fig jam, beautifully fresh arugula, thinly sliced prosciutto, and earthy gorgonzola cheese. The delightful medley of flavors is one-of-akind, and greatly enhanced by the satisfying crunch of the thin, crispy flatbread. Next, Abby and I selected two of the restaurant’s specialities for our entrées — seafood fra diavolo ($33) for her and lamb bolognese ($25) for me. If you’re a seafood lover, then the fra diavolo will absolutely exceed your expectations. Jumbo shrimp, scallops, clams, and fresh calamari are tossed in a lovely chili pepper infused tomato sauce and served over perfectly al dente linguini. Abby compliments the dish, saying, “You enjoy the seafood without it being overpowered by an overly spicy sauce. That’s a very difficult balance to achieve. Well done!” She adds that the “exceptionally tender and moist” calamari is a thoughtful enhancement that contributes nicely to the overall tremendous flavors of the recipe.

with Gabby & Abby The lamb bolognese is an exquisitely elevated dish — it’s incredibly tender lamb that is slow braised in an addicting, ragù alla bolognese, which is a thick, creamy sauce made with wine, tomato, cream, and, of course, love, then served over thick egg pappardelle. The full, robust flavors take your tastebuds to places they have never been before... places that you’ll want to return to over and over again. I wish I had more room to expound upon The Grove’s enchanting desserts, but my word count restricts me… suffice it to say that you’d be remiss to exclude any of them from your meal, especially Jen’s cocoa and olive oil cake ($8), featuring homemade whipped cream that will captivate each and every part of you. Abby and I strongly encourage (or, better yet, urge) you to savor your next meal at The Grove! While you’re there, peruse the restaurant’s gourmet market, complete with high quality charcuterie elements and an ample selection of choice wines. Ask expert sommeliers Luis and Jen Reyneri, who also happen to be the restaurant’s owners, to share a story from their year of living abroad and for their wine suggestions based on your personal preferences. Better yet, join The Grove’s exclusive Wine Club (the only one of its kind in Martin County!) to enjoy special perks, such as sommelier-selected bottles each month and wine education, plus frequent wine tastings and dinners, which benefit local charities!
