Mena has been selected as the eighth stop in a tour of more than 40 cities across the United States in 2017 to host “The Wall That Heals,” a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. The half-scale replica was designed to travel to communities across the nation to spread the Memorial’s healing legacy and is accompanied by the Mobile Education Center.

On Wednesday afternoon, a historic B-25 Bomber Plane took ﬂight at the Mena Airport. The bomber had been at Crider Aircraft for the past month being painted. The aircraft is a 1944 North American, Designed PBJ Controlled Bomber. This particular plane is a part of the Devil Dog Squadron and is grouped with the Commemorative Air Force. The Devil Dog represents a PBJ, the Marine Corps version of a B-25. Bombers like this were used throughout WWII and provided a decisive advantage during the war. One of the most memorable bombings was April 18, 1942, when sixteen B-25s launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet and bombed Japan. This is famously known as the “Doolittle Raid”. Two signs have been placed along Highway 71 North near Y City to honor two officers that perished in the May 31, 2013 floods. Wildlife Officer Joel Campora and Scott County Sheriff Cody Carpenter both lost their lives enroute to save others from rapidly rising and swift floodwaters. Both were beloved by their communities. In the years since, both men have been honored on many levels by their local communities and statewide. The signs that now bear their names will serve as a reminder to all of the ultimate sacrifice they made in the line of duty. CONTINUED ON PAGE 8

e are now in the midst of that time of year when Christmas is the focus, and the customary seasonal activities occupy much of our personal time. Y ou kn ow; things such as choosing the tree that is j ust right for that special place in the house, shopping for that perfect gift, which he or she will never guess they would receive, mak ing plans for the ki ds ( and perhaps grand ki ds too) to come home so the family can be together, buying the ingredients for G randma’s special fruit salad and other traditional dishes which are always holiday favorites, and of course looki ng forward to some of the post-season bowl games. Then, it’s time for Dad to make his annual pilgrimage up into the attic and haul down the decorations and then back up again to try locating that one box that has the special ornaments that we can’t do without. Then, he drags out the Christmas lights and kn ows better than to exp ect them all to light up. A fter tinke ring with them for too long he thinks – ‘ no problem! A s cheap as Christmas lights are, we’ll j ust buy a new set the next time we’re in town.’ Wasteful? Maybe, but he rationalize s that his time is more valuable than the nominal exp ense. Of course, even with the new set there are one or two bulbs which refuse to cooperate, but surely they won’t be noticed. Wrong... Oh well, it is still a beautiful tree. It is interesting to see how this special season of the year reveals much about each of us, especially our priorities and our treasures. It is a vivid illustration of how we do tend to make the time or, if you will, make the room for those activities and those people who are most important to us. The ke y phrase here is, “maki ng the room.” This is not only true at Christmas time, but throughout the year as well. Being the innke epers of our own lives, there is much to be learned about each of us through whom and what occupies our time and our room( s) . I can’t help but think about this when reading L uke 2, in the account of Je sus’ birth. There, in verse 7, we read that there was no room for Him in the inn. How many times have I read and heard this verse, and how many times have I failed to consider the innk eeper and how uncaring or apathetic he appeared to have been. N ow, while it is true that no innk eeper is actually mentioned in the biblical account, it is like ly that one did exi st. On that fairly safe assumption and, for the purpose of analogy, I will proceed. I’ve often wondered why the innke eper couldn’t have somehow found some room, or arranged for them to stay at another inn or in a home. Why do you think this ext ra effort may never have been done? Was there really no room for Him in the inn, or was there a refusal to mak e room for Him in the inn? Whatever the case, Jo seph and Mary could not provide their precious Je sus a place to be born that they thought best for Him. Does this not strike a personal chord in your life - in mine? If not, it is certainly time that it did. There is a contemporary song of the season called, There’s A N ew K id in Town. Well, I’ve got news. He’s no longer a new ki d in town. He’s been in town for years and He’s still being ke pt out in the cold waiting for many of us to make room for Him. When it’s all said and done, what it all boils down to is this: a decision. L ike the innk eeper in Bethlehem, each of us have a decision to make with Je sus. While, praise G od, He is no longer the baby in a manger, He is the risen K ing of K ings and L ord of L ords who has since, and to this day, stands at the door and kn ocks ( R evelation 3 : 20) . The q uestion is: will the innke eper answer the door and let Je sus in, or will He hear once again that there is no room for Him? This is a life-changing decision, whether your personal decision is about salvation, relationships, how you will celebrate this Christmas, or perhaps other matters that need utmost attention. So, before we move any farther along with the festivities of the season, j ust maybe we should decide that Je sus does have a place of importance in all this, and then make some room for Him. He does want in so very much and not for only a season, but for a permanent stay. P erhaps it wouldn’t even be a bad idea to give Him the biggest and best room we have. Better yet, why not j ust sign the title of the inn over to Him and allow G od to convert that shabby inn into a temple where the Holy Spirit can dwell and have total control ( 1 Corinthians 3 : 16 ) . What a birthday present that would be!

Cove’s 23rd Annual Christmas Xtravaganza

he Town of Cove held their 23rd Annual Christmas Xtravaganza on Saturday, December 10th, with great local participation despite frigid temperatures. Town Mayor, Joan Headley said, “Even though it was cloudy and cold with a nippy wind, the parade and reception with Santa Claus went off without a hitch.” Parade winners, each presented with trophies and ribbons were: Overall Winner – Vandervoort Happy Campers 4H Club; 1st – Cove Branch of the Polk County Library; 2nd – Humane Society of the Ouachitas; 3rd – Holly Springs Real Estate. “We would like to express our gratitude to the men from Company C, 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, who acted as our Color Guard,” said Headley. “Also, to everyone who participated in the parade.” At the reception, around 100 children stayed to visit Santa. “We would like to extend our thanks to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office who provided traffic control, to our very capable servers, the parade judges, the decorating committee from the Cove Branch of the Polk County Library, and everyone who helped make this event so wonderful.”

On Monday, December 19, a man was welding on Highway 8, east of Mena, when some cardboard debris was set on fire. Fire fighters responded to quickly extinguish that bla e amid high winds. On Monday afternoon, Dallas alley Fire Fighters responded to a call at 2985 Highway 8 ast, where a grass fire had gotten out of control. The call came in around 3 p.m. During winter, lower humidity levels combined with high wind gusts make for a dangerous combination. Caution is advised when performing any burning in the area. Brian Thompson, Exh aulted R uler of the Mena Elks L odge, said the Elks were happy to partner with the Marine Corps L eague Detachment and the two programs ﬁt well together. “We partnered with the Elks in 2014. This is our third year worki ng together and are now able to do double what we did before,” Thompson said. “What they do for us is great,” he added. The Elks buy healthy food baske ts for each family so that ki ds have healthy food while they are home for the holidays. “We make sure they have healthy food for that twoweek break,” said Thompson. He added, “We teach members when they become Elks that the true value of wealth is in the sharing, not in the having. On that note, am very proud of my L odge and its members and the generosity of the people in Polk County. We must live in a very rich county because a lot of people shared a lot to help those in need.”

eventy-four elderly seniors have beneﬁtted this year in the largest Santas for Seniors program in P olk County yet. The program, in its ﬁfth year, is sponsored each year by the county s eleven 4H clubs. “ t s a great way to help the elderly in need when they don t normally get a lot,” said K eilah Barney, a 16 -year member of ountry ids 4H Club in Cherry Hill. “ t seems like people make it more about the ki ds so we want to help the elderly,” she explained why they choose to help seniors during this special time of year. xtension Agent Carla aught and Sue Oglesby have been a big part of the program, gathering applications, collecting gifts, etc. “This is the biggest year yet,” said aught. Not only were gifts purchased for adopted angels off of the tree, food baskets were also put together. “We have snack buckets, fresh potatoes and sweet potatoes, rice, beans, peanut butter, fruit, banana nut bread, eggs, and more,” Oglesby explained. They expressed how thankful they are that all the angels were adopted and will have something special for Christmas. David ehmann, member of Mountain Fork rowing Clovers 4H Club, who will help deliver the packages this week, said, “ really like delivering the gifts and seeing the smiles. t helps spread the Christmas cheer.”

Sawyer said, “It was very touching to watch our community come together to honor these two heroes. Cody and Jo el dedicated their lives to serving others. Mena PD Purchases Bicycles for Local Children Mena Police Department helped spread Christmas joy when they delivered bicycles to 39 local children for Christmas. Police Chief Brandon Martin said that he and his family had planned to purchase 20 bicycles personally, when several people stepped in to help out. “We were able to touch kids’ lives with a little Christmas cheer,” said Martin I can’t thank everyone enough for what they’ve done to help e want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” Pictured with the bicycles are: Chief Brandon Martin, and Of cers, Norm Gray, Daniel Sanchez, and Todd Cannon.

A fter pulling the plane out of Crider’s hangar, they warmed the plane’s engines up because it had been sitting for the last month during the cold weather. When the engines were warm the pilots took the plane up on a test run. Members of the crew at Crider A ircraft received a special opportunity that day. The pilots of the bomber took members of the crew in the air and circled around P olk County as a way to show their appreciation for their hard work. One particular worke r said, “This was the coolest thing I’ve been a part of. By far the best plane ride ever.” Worke rs from each of the hangars at the Mena Airport were standing outside their hangars, hoping to catch a glimpse of the plane as she went for flights. N ot only were the members of the Commemorative A ir F orce special guests, but one of P olk County’s own was in attendance, Mr. Tom Earhart [ P ICTUR ED R IG HT] was there for the big day. Mr. Earhart is one of the oldest veterans in P olk County from WWII. He served as Sergeant in the A rmy A ir F orce during WWII and was a mechanic on the B-25 ’s. Cindy Crider, owner of Crider A ircraft said that Mr. Earhart has been coming out everyday for the past month to watch them work on the plane. “Mr. Earhart is a legend here and it was so cool that he could be here for this special day,” said Crider. Earhart work ed in detail on the metal of the planes during WWII along with many other features of the bombers. L OOK F OR MR . EA R HA R T TO BE F EA TUR ED A S A N UP COMIN G CITIZ EN OF THE WEEK . It was a great day at the Mena A irport as not j ust Crider A ircraft celebrated, but all the hangars looked on with anticipation. To knowledge, this is the first B-25 bomber that has every received work here in Mena. After the quick flights, the pilots of the Commemorative Air Force were flying the plane back to G eorgetown, Tex. , where the plane would receive some mechanical work over the next couple of months during the Winter. Larry Lawayne Stricklin, age 65, of Hatfield, Arkansas went to meet his Savior, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Larry was born in Mena, Arkansas on June 16, 1951 to the late Omen and Wanda Jean Stricklin. He was married to Ramona “Mona” Willis for 28 years and was a man of all trades. Larry was a genuine character, he never met a stranger, talking and telling stories to everyone he met. He was a wheeler and dealer, an avid collector of junk, and there wasn’t much he wouldn’t buy or sell. Larry loved watching his old westerns, giving out pocketknives, playing spades, cooking and Facebooking. Larry proudly served as Mayor of Hatfield for 16 years. Most of all Larry had a deep love for his family, friends, and grandchildren. He was a loving and caring husband, son, dad, papa, bub, and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by wife, Ramona “Mona” Stricklin, of the home; sons, Beau Stricklin and wife Laurel of Dublin, California, David Willis and companion Katherine Hardaway of Pickens, Oklahoma; daughters, Tonya Thacker and husband Ron of Mena, Arkansas, Toni Stricklin Gay and husband Brad of Washington, Oklahoma, Tasha Stricklin and Charles Strickland of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandchildren, Brittanie Dayle Willis of Mena, Arkansas, Paris, Elvis, Tucker, and Sailor Stricklin of Dublin, California, Tateli, Taylor and Ty Thacker of Mena, Arkansas, Ashleigh and Alexis Gay of Washington, Oklahoma; brother, Garry Dale Stricklin and wife Donna of Mena, Arkansas, niece, Terah Stricklin of Mena, Arkansas; and a host of special friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omen and Wanda Stricklin, and nephew, Garreth Stricklin. Funeral service was Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Hatfield School Auditorium. Interment followed in the Six Mile Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Family and friends visitation was Friday, December 16, 2016, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood. Pallbearers were Mike Oglesby, Ray Cathey, Gerry Rose, Terry Keener, Ken Miller, and Jeremy Owens. Honorary pallbearer was Terry Lunsford.

Faye Evelyn Harnar, age 89, of Mena, died Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the DeQueen Therapy & Living Center. She was born on Saturday, December 10, 1927 to William Leonard and Nancy Hinsley Lovern in Megargel, Texas. Faye was a woman that loved her Lord and attended the Northside Church of Christ in Mena for over 30 years. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. Faye loved working in her flowerbeds and garden. She also enjoyed cooking and she was known for her chicken and dumplings. Faye worked 28 years in the Postal Service as a clerk in Grover City, California and Fort Worth, Texas before retiring to Mena. She was very active in church, the Ouachita Senior Center and aiding in getting The Oaks Retirement Center established in Mena. Faye was a loving wife to James J. Harnar for 67 years, mother, grandmother and aunt and a friend and she will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Tisha Harnar; her grandson, Neil Harnar; and her eight brothers and one sister. Faye is survived by her husband, James J. Harnar; three sons and two daughters-inlaw, Roger Harnar of Tolar, Texas, Steven and Nancy Harnar of Mena, Arkansas, and Gregory and Brenda Harnar of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Nancy Sawyer of Mena; nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. TRENT WADE LUNSFORD Trent Wade Lunsford passed away December 15, 2016. He was born September 16, 1976 in Mena, Arkansas to Terry and Sandy Lunsford. Trent had a such a vivacious and charismatic personality, a contagious hunger for life and a gigantic, compassionate heart for others. He was skilled in construction, butchering, and craftsmanship. But it was through Trent’s struggles, he gained his greatest calling. The call of ministry on his life was heavy and when fully surrendered to that call, he was operating in exactly who God created him to be. He was a student of, completed, and went on to work with, multiple ministries including Teen Challenge, an addiction and recovery ministry. The marks he left here with the many men he ministered to through his own testimony of trials and victories was one that extends way beyond this life and into the eternal and heavenly realms. He was cherished and loved by all that truly knew him. He is survived parents, Terry & Sandy Lunsford; grandmother, Madine Lunsford; son, Ethan Winkley; brother, Troy Lunsford & wife, Ginger; sister, Trina Mitchell & husband Jon Mitchell; nephews, Trey Lunsford, Grant Mitchell and Callan Mitchell; nieces, Kaylee Lunsford and Wynn Mitchell. Opal C. Warren, age 90, of Mount Ida, passed away December 16, 2016 at Montgomery County Nursing Home, Mt. Ida, AR. She was born October 26, 1926 to Robert and Fannie Carter. Mrs. Warren is preceded in death by her husband William G. Warren, one daughter, Gwen Weibl, one brother, Floyd Carter, and one sister, Faye Gladden. She is survived by her three sons, Duncan (Bill) Warren his wife Marcie, of Black Springs, Honnus Warren his wife Linda of Mena, Kenneth Warren his wife Donnah of Black Springs. It was a few days before Christmas. The trip went reasonably well, and he was ready to go back home. The airport on the other end had turned a tacky red and green, and loudspeakers blared annoying elevator renditions of cherished Christmas carols. Being someone who took Christmas very seriously, and being slightly tired, he was not in a particularly good mood. (Almost a scrooge) Going to check in his luggage (which, for some reason, had become one suitcase with entirely new clothes), he saw hanging mistletoe. Not real mistletoe, but very cheap plastic with red paint on some of the rounder parts and green

paint on some of the flatter and pointer parts, that could be taken for mistletoe only in a very Picasso sort of way. With a considerable degree of irritation and nowhere else to vent it, he said to the attendant, “Even if we were married, I would not want to kiss you under such a ghastly mockery of mistletoe.” “Sir, look more closely at where the mistletoe is.” “Ok, I see that it’s above the luggage scale which is the place you’d have to step forward for a kiss.” “That’s not why it’s there.” The man replied, “Ok, I give up. Why is it there?” “It’s there so you can kiss your luggage good-bye.”

1. Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper, aluminum foil or cooking parchment paper. Place candy coating in 8-cup microwavable measure or 2-quart microwavable casserole. Microwave uncovered on High 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until almost melted. Stir until smooth. 2. Place peppermint candies in heavy plastic bag crush with rolling pin or bottom of small heavy saucepan. Pour crushed candies into wire strainer. Shake strainer over melted coating until all of the tiniest candy pieces fall into the coating reserve the larger candy pieces. Stir coating to mix evenly. Spread coating evenly on cookie sheet. Sprinkle evenly with remaining candy pieces. et stand about 1 hour or until cool and hardened. Break into pieces.

amilies are the structure and foundation for many children’s success socially, academically, and professionally. A solid foundation and structure can prove to be beneficial for years to come. This belief is held by Ouachita River School District and Rhonda Willborg, their Student Services Coordinator. The Student Services Coordinator is a new position at ORSD that ust started at the beginning of the school year. Rhonda and her family moved back to Mena in 2004 and she started her teaching career at Acorn lementary as a indergarten teacher. She taught for 13 years before transitioning to her current position. Rhonda s husband Bobby works in the area and her two kids, Jaden and Jeb, both go to Acorn. Prior to moving back to Mena, Rhonda was serving as a research assistant at UAMS. t is quite the accomplishment to go to college and graduate, but Rhonda actually holds two degrees. Rhonda first acquired her degree in Sociology in 1991, but later went back to school to get her degree in arly Childhood ducation. Commenting on her two degrees Rhonda said, “ always loved students, and wanted to teach and make an impact.” t is Rhonda s desire to make an impact in the lives of students that earned her the opportunity to work in Student Services. “Our administration and staff saw a need and an opportunity for outreach to our families in the school community. Teaching doesn t ust mean focusing on the academics, which our teachers do a great ob, but it s hard for students to function if they have other stressers going on in their lives. Not only are our kids important to us, but so are our families and that is where this position really came from,” explains Rhonda. She really understands that there is so much more affecting student s success in the classroom other than students understanding a lesson. Students need to know that they are cared about for more than ust their academic performance so ORSD and Rhonda are trying to better understand how they can serve the students and their families. The services that are provided are pretty extensive and Rhonda and the staff at Acorn are trying to find other ways that they can help. “ n this position, we are able to help families connect to services they may need. t could be helping them receive counseling if they need it, clothes, food, or maybe help the parents filling out the application for AR ids,” says Rhonda. Both Acorn and Rhonda understand that a big component to students success not only in school, but life as well, is dependent on their families, so they are doing everything they can to aide in this process. Rhonda stated, “Any need that our families have, we want to try to help with. serve as a mediator between the families and the resources that they may need such as doctors, dentists, or more food for the weekend. spend my time trying to research the best resources in our community to meet the needs of our students and families. f don t know what that resource is then will spend time figuring it out.” Rhonda s love for students from her time teaching has spilled over into her new position, which allows for her to flourish as she serves the family. “Hopefully we get into the teaching profession because we want to make a difference in the lives of students. Now in my current position, don t ust have the students in view, but try to view the students and their family as one structure. With this is mind, we try to serve the family and in doing so, we make the student s lives better as well,” said Rhonda. Rhonda has a heart for the students at ORSD and their success. Her desire to see healthy students and make an impact has spilled over into the family life. She stated, “We ust want families and students to know that we are here and care about them. We never want them to feel like they don t have somebody that cares.” t s really clear that Rhonda has the passion for such a position. Not only does she have experience in the school system and knows what it takes to help students be successful, but she has a heart to do more than help students make good grades, Rhonda wants to help positively impact their lives. Crider Aircraft - Working as a Family I

t isn’t often that you can work somewhere that you enj oy what you do, like the people you work with, and you feel like your boss cares about you. This uniq ue combination is displayed at Crider A ircraft at the Mena A irport. Owners R oger and Cindy Crider care about the men and women that work in their hangar, they are more than employees, but feel like family. The Crider’s took ownership of the hangar and business in 2002 from Ju nior G oodner. Both R oger and Cindy bring a long history of worki ng around planes into the business. Roger started working at the airport for oodner right after high school as a part of a work program. He started sweeping and cleaning floors, moved to mechanic, earned his license to fly, and finally moved into ownership. Cindy is no stranger to the airplane business either, she worked on the floor at the hangar detailing planes while she went to college. It was at the hangar, in fact, that Cindy and R oger met almost 3 0 years ago. The Crider’s bring decades of exp erience into the business and this is a great part of what has made them so successful. Cindy stated, “ never wanted to be a boss that ust sat back and asked people to do something wasn t willing to do. There are still times that Roger and step out of the office to help on the floor if we have a big pro ect.” The crew at Crider Aircraft feels more like a big family, but this may be because there are several family members including Cindy s brother, cousin, and the Crider s son, Tyler, who serves as one of the foreman. The Crider s other son, Alex, is living and working in Northwest Arkansas as a marke ting specialist. The work that Crider Aircraft does is detail intensive and laborious. n order to get planes in and out of their shop in a timely manner it takes each member of the crew pulling their own. “We have set things up like a factory line. veryone knows what their role is on the proj ect and so when one group is done the plan gets passed on to the next group, and so on, until it is completed. Since we both have worked on the floor in the hangar we know what it takes to get the planes finished in a timely manner,” says Roger. Along with this, Cindy completed her degree in Business and Technology, which proves to be helpful. Cindy says, “Since have a business degree and know about the planes it ust made sense to come and help him with this side of things.” On average, the crew can finish 7-25 planes a month, but this is with everybody pulling their own. The Criders stated, “We have a great crew here. They work really hard and we appreciate them for that. That is part of the reason we try to take care of them and care for them like family.” Between a hard working crew, and owners that understand aviation and the business side, it s clear why the Crider s have been successful. The best leaders are those that lead by example and that is exactly what the Criders do. From time to time they still hop in the middle of things and empty trash cans or help detail the planes. “We never want to be beyond doing something, and we have to know what is going on in the hangar so we can still have compassion on the workers and what they are going through,” says Cindy. Crider Aircraft has the opportunity to work on a variety of different plans and recently completed a unique pro ect. The crew ust finished repainting and detailing a WW B-25 Bomber. This is not the first military aircraft that they worked on, but it is the first bomber. This particular bomber was a part of the Commemorative Air Force and the Devil Dogs. Cindy said, “We spent time on the floor with the crew during this process as well. When we have a big proj ect like this, we want to perform q uality control. This assures that our customers get the best product we can offer.” Crider Aircraft has serviced many other military plans and always en oy the opportunity. “We love when we can do our part to say thank you to the military community and repainting the plane is a way that we can do that,” explains Crider. Planes such an American Airlines DC3 and C54 Berlin Airlift are ust a few of the other unique planes they have the opportunity to work on. Their dedication and attention to detail is what has made their business so successful. A long with these characteristics, the Criders have tried to be personable with any customer. Cindy stated, “Any time a customer comes in, R oger and I both make sure that we are to meet them and talk with them about their plane. I take pictures throughout the process and try to go the ext ra mile to make their business with us pleasurable.” Roger and Cindy have gone above and beyond to produce a good product, but haven t sacrificed integrity and the care of their employees. Between the two of them, they strike the proper balance of work and fun. A s Cindy stated, “We want our employees to kn ow we care about them. We want people to feel like we care about them for more than their work.” t s undeniable that this kind of environment is making a difference.

Mena Police Department December 11, 2016 Ashlie Nicole Dixon, 25, of Smackover was charged with DWI and careless driving. The arrest followed a traffic stop. A 17-year-old Mena youth was charged with underage DUI after a routine traffic stop. Also charged in the incident with possession of alcohol by a minor was a 16-year-old Mena boy. December 12, 2016

Report was taken of the theft of an air gun from a local retail store. Case is pending contact with suspect seen in surveillance video. Report was taken of a local man threatening bodily harm to another Mena man. Case is pending interview of all suspects. December 13, 2016 No reports on file. December 14, 2016 A local woman reported the theft of a miter saw from a rent house she owns in Mena. Case is pending further investigation. Officers traveled to Crawford County where local authorities had stopped two men from Mena. Both men had active warrants from Mena. Brought back on the warrants to Polk County were Jonathan Daniel Woody, 40, and Jonathan Zackery Woody, 22. December 15, 2016

Danielle Rae Stewart, 25, of Mena was charged with public intoxication after several complaints from local residents. A local apartment owner reported the theft of several space heaters and other items from one of the units. Case is pending interview of suspect and witnesses. December 16, 2016 Lynea Chandeen Wright, 29, of Mena was arrested on a felony warrant from the Mena Police Department and on a misdemeanor warrant from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Hannah Leeann White, 33, of Mena was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Sevier County. Crystal Lane Davis, 32, of Mena was arrested on a felony warrant from the Mena Police Department. December 17, 2016 Report was made of the theft of a box trailer full of equipment. The trailer was stolen from the parking lot of a local motel. Case is pending further investigation and review of surveillance tapes from several businesses in the area. The theft occurred sometime on the evening of December 16, 2016. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 T o d a y i n t h e t o w n o f David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

A MORE EXCELLENT WAY Demonic activity is real, and is no joking matter. It destroys the lives of our children. It influences the lives of men and women of every age. But most Christians know nothing of it or how it works, and worse than that, do not want to know. If begging would do it, I would beg, but it will not, so I will not beg either. But here it is, in part. First, demons are real and they are agents of satan himself. Their mission is the same as his: “to steal and to kill and to destroy…” (John 10:10). These things are not to be treated casually, for God has warned us many times of the danger of careless thought in the matter. Second, as people (and especially those of us of the Church!) we must understand that we are in a war…a very real war, and the lives and souls, and spirits of those whom we love are at stake! No joking matter. Satan will destroy everything and everyone who is not protected by the powerful blood of Jesus Christ! And he does not discriminate! He wants us as much as he wants someone else! The Good News of the Gospel is that God wants us also, and has done everything that He can do to achieve that result! Drugs! Wrong drugs and their illicit use! Destroyed lives! Broken families! Beyond measure! Not what satan promised! But it happens that way. Where are the warnings? Where is the deep cry of those who know Him, the cry of incredible danger? Is it that we no longer believe these things, that we believe all of the destruction in human life is just a matter of a little bit of psychological adjustment? Isn’t that what we are being told by the “intelligent” among us? And what has happened to the preachers and teachers of the Word of God? There is a price to pay for “Thus saith the Lord.” Is it too high? It may be that certain truths have to be ignored in favor of the larger crowds, more money and bigger buildings…maybe? Jesus said that if they hated Him they would hate us also. Who is the “they”? It is the same world that nailed the Savior to the cross! It has not gotten better! The “signs of the times” are upon this generation. We still need, no, WE MUST HAVE, the crucified, buried, and resurrected Christ in our lives, individually, and as a culture. We are paying the price for rejecting Him. And yes, when we rejected His word, we rejected Him. We cannot separate Jesus from what He said! He IS what He said. Why all of this now? Because a very dear friend died like thousands of other youth and young men: a victim of the drug culture in America. Victim? Yes! Certainly. And the drug culture is nothing more than what one must expect when the Deliverer is rejected. “But, we have a day of prayer in America, every year.” Excuse me, but a day of prayer apart from a month of genuine repentance is going to be worth exactly nothing. Repentance? How about over fifty million babies? Where is the Church? “Jesus loves you, God loves you, and has a wonderful plan for your life.” Yes! But there is more to the Gospel than the basics! We are to move on to maturity. Maturity means to see life as it is, accept the real responsibility, and then move on to what it should be, could, if we would just do it God’s way. The Christian “religion” is doing well. Where is the Christian FAITH? (Jude 1:3). Yes, there is a certain amount of anger in what I have written today.
