LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER It was not my choice to come to America at age 6 from the island of Haiti, but boy am I glad I did. My parents picked this great city of all the cities in the world—Brooklyn to be specific. I will always love New York no matter where my life takes me. While I dream of living near the River Nile in Egypt, retire by the Mediterranean in Puglia, Italy, Bari to be precise. Vacation in Nice, France. Relish the art of dance of the Flamenco dancers in Seville, Spain. Enjoy the home cooking of my birth place in Haiti. These are but a few locations that remind me of the joy I had while there. But, no matter the distance, the water, or all the other wonderful memories…by far, there is nowhere on this planet that has brought more to my life than New York. New York is the epicenter of diversity. In New York City specifically, you can find every nationality, culture, race or religion as part of its very core. While yes it may have its challenges, but there are endless opportunities, and the access it provides to so much is equal to no other place. While creating this issue we learned how very few brides think of New York State as a destination wedding location when planning their nuptials. It is that finding that stimulated our desire to explore New York in all its glory. We discovered the various locations that are right in our backyard that resemble the beauty we seek from other locations all over the world. New York State, Upper New York, Central New York are home to some of the greatest forests, beaches, mountainous terrains you could ever imagine. Green pastures
that seemingly invite you to sing Julie Andrew’s rendition of “The Hills Are Alive” from the Sound of Music. Yes, beyond the skyscrapers are paradisiac views that many New Yorkers are not aware exists. Therefore, World Bride Magazine Editors decided to share a few wonderful finds of our great hometown. We hope you too will fall in love with New York as much as we have. Explore our fabulous gastronomy during Restaurant Week. Relax at some of our world famous spas such as Castle Hotel Spa which overlooks the wonderful views of the Hudson River. Discover the wonderful castles that once were homes or vacation homes to some of America’s wealthiest families in American history. Enjoy the wildlife of Bear Mountain. Go hiking in the Adirondacks. Discover New York beyond the tall buildings. In this issue you will see why the slogan I love NY was adopted and became the most iconic recognizable brand in the world. It won’t be long before you too will be singing I love New York.

WHY IS MARRIAGE SO IMPORTANT TO YOU: Our marrage was a rooted in ceremony, tradition and a good reason to party. The importance of ceremony and gathering those close in celebration of love was at the core of our reason to marry. We found that a formal uniting of our two families was necessary for our relationship to grow. We also sought to honor memory, and our family tradition. The wedding was an act of humility.

Advertising clients are in demand for Algarin’s time. Most recently he has shot campaigns for Donald J. Pliner, Nike, Mandarina Duck, W Hotels, Godiva Chocolate, Lord & Taylor, and Neiman Marcus.
Palazzi started her photographic journey as a teenager in Swedish suburbia with a secondhand 35 mm camera , a library book about basic photography & darkroom techniques and a hand-me-down B/W photo enlarger. LOULETTE BRIDAL PHOTOS COURTESY OF LOULETTE BRIDAL
What brought you to the bridal industry: I started my career in Ready to Wear, and moved to eveningwear, and worked for a company that did bridal. That was my first exposure to bridal, and fell in love with it. I found myself very disappointed in the fashion industry: I disliked the “quantity over quality mentality of RTW, working tirelessly to put out a new collection every 2 months to meet 5 or so deliveries a year, and the egos and attitudes were out of control. Working in bridal, with 2 deliveries a year, a true quality over quantity passion, and an industry full of small, independently owned businesses felt much more authentic to me as a designer and much more aligned with my own ethics and principles. Not to mention, it is probably the happiest of industries to work in.
What inspires each of your pieces: My inspirations for each new collection varies, but it
32 | World Bride Magazine
all really comes from my passions and experiences in travel, music, art, and vintage finds. I listen to my brides and my stores, and look at what is resonating with them, and always add my own spin to my new collections with textures and new interesting print and pattern combinations.
What are some of the fabrics/details you use in creating a piece? I become known from my mix of textures and patterns, so I really like to source for a fun mix of novelty fabrics from my fabric vendors, and let those fabrics speak for themselves. When I sit down to design, I see what combinations of textures work together and how they play off each other. I also work with artisans in Guatemala and Mexico to add Fair Trade and community-inspired components to my pieces, to keep them authentic, artisan made, and created with a sense of responsibility in mind.

As we transition into the fall season we begin to embrace the nice cool breeze in the evenings…. the changing of leaves on the trees. Every season has its share of changes and flowers are no exception. There are some classic fall flowers that everyone thinks of— chrysanthemum, carnations and roses to name a few. Here’s some new fall favorites that we thought you might like to add to your dinner party décor, fall bouquets for that special someone or just because. Here’s why we love these fall darlings. your time to be strategic in whom you choose to include on your guest list. Gone with the days of inviting your mother’s friends whose names you’ve never heard. This is your time to shine, and keep in mind that every guest you choose to include is an investment for your wedding day. I have worked with many couples from all over the world, and while there are many cultural differences in regards to the logistics in executing the wedding, the process for creating a guest list is the same. In creating your guest list, it is essential that you start with a budget. From here you can determine how many guests you can

In taking these steps, you can ensure that all of your invited guests will be wanted and you will be in good company. Be cognizant that these steps are preliminary and some couples may choose to invite guests to the reception only and close family and friends to both the ceremony and the reception. Do you even want to include your entire dream list? Now that you have your “working list,” you will need to set expectations for your wedding day. Questions to ask yourself may include: •

Are there any strained family dynamics?
•
Are we allowing a plus one?
•
Is this person invited because I feel guilty?
These are all great questions that will completely set the tone of your wedding day. Determine the answers early; as these answers will help guide you in determining your final guest list, and will be the

into account one’s personality more than anything else. For instance if you have a bubbly demeanor and want to express with your dress, then go for a frothy train. No one should dictate what your dream dress should be. But there is a reason why the ball gown silhouette is the ubiquitous choice for brides for decades—they look good on everyone. Big voluminous skirts hide a wealth of body issues and the fitted bodice accentuates the waist and bust. Mark Badgley and James Mischka know a thing or two about
gowns. They’ve marched models down the runway in their captivating looks for 30 years, not to mention dressing starlets on the Red Carpet. Their dresses hit the right note for anyone in a wedding party but especially for a fashion forward mother of the bride. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite styles from their resort collection. The team’s tasteful creations are also translated in shoes, bags and a more moderately priced grouping of dresses that give a lot of bang for the buck. The duo has long admired Angelica Houston as a style icon and for their resort 2018 collection she became their muse. Her influence is obvious in this slinky black gown with plunging v-neck. The other looks evoke less of a direct Angelica vibe but BADGLEY MISCHKA
are no less ravishing. Their red brocade caftan and feathered hemmed dress are excellent options for mothers of the bride who are unafraid of turning heads when entering a room—just as Ms. Houston did in her heyday.
MODERN BRIDESMAID Zero+Maria Cornejo celebrated her 20th anniversary with a spring show that was packed with the art crowd.
