Rotary
Group still busy, writes Ruth Powell
2020 may not have been the year any of us expected, and who knows what 2021 has in store for us but, whatever happens, our Rotary club will continue to make efforts to support and fundraise for local good causes. Of course, like everyone, we look forward to being able to raise funds at our usual events at some point!

Our meetings, both business and social, continue on Zoom. We are very pleased to have welcomed some new younger members who have brought fresh ideas and energy to our Club. Several have young families and this is bringing a new dimension to our projects and activities.
Over the past few months, we are very pleased to have been able to support Food Bank operations in our area as well as making contributions to our local Primary Schools and the Academy. We have also supported the annual Rotary Area Raffle which was in aid of Charlie House, which supports babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and lifelimiting conditions and their families, across the North-east of Scotland.
Our socially-distanced litter picks have come to a halt during this latest period of lockdown, but we hope to restart as soon as possible. As you can see from the photo, Rotarian Nick and his wee friend Fara, have been gathering stray bits of rubbish while out walking, so this is really making a difference to the paths they regularly use. Our Rotary Club is now a named good cause on the “Easyfundraising” website. For every on-line purchase you make from one of the participating companies (and there are 4,000!) they will donate a small % of the amount you have spent, at absolutely no cost to yourself! It is very 8 easy to sign up and no sensitive personal or financial information is requested, so it is very secure. We would really appreciate your support with this new venture while so many of us are shopping on-line. See our Facebook page for the one-click link, or enter; https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ causes/rcofaboyneupperdeeside/
The winner of our Christmas themed quiz was Chris Chantler from Bath – one of our regular E-Quizzers. The winners of Philbert Pheasant’s Treasure Hunt were Morag and James McBeath who were delighted with their Luxury Hamper prize. Thank you to all those who entered these fun competitions!
We are always on the lookout for new Rotary members or Friends of Rotary to assist us in our efforts to help our communities and to have some fun along the way! If you would like to know more about what we do, contact Mike Powell - mikepowell.obe@gmail.com
