Highlights: Knowledgeable Staff, Warehouse Tours, Great Variety

As the original Myrtle Beach brewery, New South brewed its first batch in 1998 and has been working to carve out the local beer scene ever since. Known as “The Beer From Here,” this 20-barrel brewhouse produces around 3,000 barrels annually to distribute across the Grand Strand.

New South’s facility is located in a warehouse about a mile from the beach and features a small bar area, a larger taproom where visitors can sit right where the magic happens, and a fenced-in outdoor area with picnic tables. Outside, you’ll often find food trucks serving up local cuisine or folks playing disc golf.

New South Brewing also offers tours every Wednesday at 3 pm. The tour is just $7 and includes beer samples throughout the tour, a souvenir glass, and a full beer following the tour.

Best Brews

For 20+ years, New South made its name on the back of its flagship White Ale, an American Wheat comparable to Blue Moon. In recent years, New South IPA, Dirty Myrtle Double IPA, and Dark Star Porter have also become local favorites.

Best Bites

New South doesn’t have a full kitchen, but it does have a spot in the parking lot for hosting some of the area’s best food trucks. Regular visitors like Mama + Papa, Rocco’s Tacos, Beach Bites and The Gnosh Pit all pair well with a frosty New South brew.
