Towle Youth Theater Ensemble announces auditions for the World Premiere of MENTAL. Auditions are Friday, February 5 at 6pm and Saturday, February 6 at 1pm. Please call 219-937-8780 and advise the Towle as to the day you are auditioning. Auditions will take place at the Towle Theater; 5205 Hohman Avenue, Hammond IN. Please prepare a oneminute memorized dramatic monologue. You may be asked to read from the script. Keep in mind, auditioning is similar to interviewing for a job. Please dress nicely, arrive well rested and 15 minutes prior to the audition time. MENTAL follows Joanna and her demon X over the ten years of their time together. X, the human embodiment of Depression and Anxiety, tortures Jo for years before her attempted suicide. Landed in the Lakeside Mental Hospital, Jo meets Warren and the two try to heal themselves and each other. Students from all over NW Indiana and Southern suburbs of Chicago are strongly encouraged to audition. Those who audition and don’t make the cast or anyone interested in of f-stage/back-stage involvement w ill work on sma ll committees for the show including box office, tech and PR/ marketing. Since 2010, the Towle Youth Theater Ensemble, or TYTE, has been wowing NWI audiences with productions such as the Northwest Indiana Premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s 13, Anne of Green Gables, Laughing Stock & Clue the Musical. The next TYTE production will be the World Premiere of Mental by Towle Youth Theater Ensemble Member, Isabel Zuniga and under the direction of Dan Brennan. Aaron’s friendship with Thomas creates questions within himself that he can’t or won’t answer. This book surprised me. At first I thought it was an average realistic f ic t ion book a i me d at a ma le audience. Then t he Leteo Institute and t he memor y procedu re changes the feeling of the book a bit, making it more speculative fiction. I was not fully invested at the beginning of the book, but I definitely found it harder to put the book down as I finished it. Silvera includes foreshadowing that is not f u lly rea lized unt il t he second half of the book. Once he reveals the truth a b out A a r on, y ou a r e hooked.

As I continued to meditate on this text I was reminded of an old movie I watched on TV many years ago. It didn’t seem important then, and I wasn’t sure if it was a true story or not, but it intrigued me now as it related to the human perspective of what I was trying to understand from Hebrews. My google search led me to the film in question. And yes, it was a true story. My value in society is not based on my race or ethnicity, it’s is in my relationship with God in whose image I’m created in. Real Estate Questions & Answers CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Question: My home is currently listed with a Broker. The other night, we left 15 minutes before the 5 and 6 PM showing. I ret u r ned at a rou nd 7 PM a nd t he Realtor and buyer were still parked in my driveway. As I drove by, I could see them sitting at my kitchen table. I didn’t know what to do so I sat there for another half hour before they finally left. My Broker later explained that they were probably very interested in the home, that’s why they stayed so long, and to take that as a “good thing.” I am still upset about this. Am I wrong being so upset? A nswer: First of f you deser ve some a n s w er s a nd not j u s t t h at “it ’s a good thing.” Were they late for their appointment? Why did these strangers use your home as a meeting place? Why were they there so long? There is no excuse for a seller not knowing that a Realtors appointment is running late. We all have mobile phones. There is no excuse for a showing lasting for more than an hour….even if they are interested in the home. Lastly, if they used your kitchen table as a meeting place in an occupied home, t hen t hat Rea ltor shou ld be reported. That is unacceptable.

Here is our solution: First, tell your Realtor you want the mobile number of any showing agent. That way if they are late, and they have not contacted you, you can contact them to check on their status. Second, don’t leave for the showing until they arrive at your door. No rule says you have to leave your home unless you want to. If you decide to stay home, stay out of their way and give them some privacy to openly discuss and view your home. If the weather permits, go outside to your yard. If they are late, refuse the showing if it is an inconvenience to you. An appointment means an arrangement to meet someone at an agreed upon time and place. Third, if you feel the prospective buyer and Realtor have been in your home long enough, then go home! It’s your home! None of these solutions are rude. They are a response to a bad situation that they put you in! Reality Shows ARLO KALLEMEYN It looks like the farmers that publish their famous ‘Farmers Almanac’ were right on the money again this year. Both Jamie and Mike are active w ithin their parishes and both are super involved with St. Columba and Mother of God. Fr. Watkins nominated both Mike and Jamie for this coveted Catrholic Awa rd g iven to t hose who exemplif y t he true Catholic spirit of giving and Christian leadership. Mike has a background with the church since 2012, when he, as a computer and copy machine whiz kid, volunteered to fix the cranky parish machinery. One thing led to another and soon Mike was giving ‘Quik Book’ lessons, balancing the books, doing repairs and just generally keeping things humming. He and his wife Mary Ann have been married 45 years and are the parents of 2 children and grandparents of two. Mike was a former Burnham Fire department Fire Inspector and both he and Mar y Ann volunteer for many parish activities and he is always there to “lend a hand,” notes Fr. Watkins. “We are lucky to have him with us.” Jamie has been at St. Columba for the past 10 years, beginning her work at the parish when then, now late Pastor Jim Nallen asked for her help in the parish office. Both Jamie and Fr. Nallen considered her help at St. Columba as “heaven sent and a true blessing,” as his health was beginning to fail, she recalls. Now the energetic young Mom of 2 and w ife to Daniel Kasprz yck i, who himself is active at St. Columba both on the Altar and behind the scenes keeps very busy keeping the St. Columba Parish office humming much to the delight of parishioners. “The pa rishioners have become a pa rt of my extended family and I can’t thank them enough for their continued support not just to me but my family as well,” Jamie noted recently. “I would like to thank Fr. Charles Watkins for nominating me for this award and for allowing me to continue to do the job I love for the wonderful people of St. Columba!” Both Jamie and Mike consider their work with the church an answer to their prayers! The Parochial Christifideles Award is bestowed upon a n i nd iv idua l C at hol ic lay per son w ho ha s demonst rated by pa r t icipat ion in parish life, the personal and ministerial renewal called for by the Papal Exhortation, Christifideles Laici, calling the laity to the vocation of responsibility for the Church’s life springing from the gift and mission of their baptism. ***
