Adult-Child Baseball Camps to the NJCA A Coaches Hall of Fame. Not only has he enjoyed success as a college coach and player, he has also established himself as a reputable youth baseball camp director around t he state. In add it ion to Ru zich’s instruction, SSC baseball players will be on hand to help the campers develop and improve their skills. The cost is $45 for one adult and one child per camp, and $40 per camp if enrolled in more than one. The cost is $30 for each additional child. The camp schedule is as follows:

One Woman Comedy to Kick-off the Theater’s 2015 Season The Towle Theater is proud to announce the opening of their 2015 Season with a one-woman comedy Shirley Valentine. The show is under the direction of Managing Director, Jeff Casey, with generous support from our 2015 Season Sponsor, Accucraft Imaging. Suzanne Nyhan of Naperville, IL will tackle the role of Shirley in this funny and poignant story of a middle-aged, working class Liverpool housewife. The story focuses on her life before and after a transforming holiday abroad. Wondering what has happened to herself now feeling stagnant and in a rut, Shirley Valentine finds herself regularly talking to the wall while preparing her husband’s chips and egg. When her best friend wins a trip-for-two to Greece, she packs her bags, leaves a note on the cupboard door in the kitchen, and heads for a fortnight of rest and relaxation. What she finds is romance and a new awareness of who she is and what her existence can be with just a little effort on her part. Towle patrons may remember Suzanne from their 2011 griping production of Good Boys and True where she played the mother of a privileged prep student who was accused of rape. Shirley Valentine is a complete departure from the previous show for Nyhan. She is looking forward to the challenge and is excited to show audiences her comedic side. in the rain over the snow. Now, back to the snow. I’m sure it’s been snowing for thousands of years in the same winter months it’s always snowed. It doesn’t really matter because media outlets look for wa rd to big snow storms because you the viewer want to know just how bad the snow is going to be because of the inconvenience it causes. And when you want to know about the snow you turn to your local weather person to give you details on wind speeds, directions of the snow, how long will it last and do we have to prepare for the next big hit. Broadc a ster s k now t hat v iewer sh ip increases with bad weather. Yes, I complained to myself when it came to doing winter weather stories. Its the same old story, get shots of people shoveling, people scraping their cars off, people walking briskly to get out of the snow, children sledding and playing in the snow. You get the picture? It makes for good television but the next time you look at these weather scenes of inclement conditions such as the reporter being blow n about a nd w ave s pou nd i ng , f reezing w ind blow ing, your ca mera person is out there getting the brunt of it in his face, down his neck and getting cold to the bone. I know what you’re probably thinking. You’re getting paid well for it so stop complaining. That’s what the assignment desk would always tell us when we complained and when you put it like that we say, bring the snow on.

I’m sure, if you watch your local news stat ion when t he weat her is turning bad, you anxiously wait for the weather segment. W hen I worked at NBC 5 in Chicago, I spent some years in the Mini Cam department where I covered local a nd nat iona l news. Ever yday we did something on the weather no matter how good, bad or in between the weather was. I guess research has shown broadcasters that you have to cover weather because it affects everyone. You can also throw into the research weather is a subject something everyone can start small talk around. To be honest with you whenever I got an assignment for a weather shot from the assignment desk, I actually enjoyed it. I enjoyed it in the spring, summer and fall. Winter time, forget about it. Think about it. When a cameraman is shooting the weather shots for the Meteorologist the cameraman is out in the elements capturing great pictures so when you’re sitting at home you can see how it looks and feel outside. A blizzard is on the way so you drive toward the blizzard so you at home can “see” what’s headed your way. Now remember, I’m driving toward the storm in my warm vehicle then when I arrive in the area of the storm I get out the vehicle with some pretty expensive television gear and shoot about an half hour of video that only seconds will be shown on our broadcast. This is the same for rain storms too. Most Videographers would tell you they detest shooting video

It’s just the first week of February and the little f u r r y w i nter ma scot predicts 6 more weeks of w inter. There is plent y of winter weather ahead of us. My driveway was covered i n snow la st weekend - just like the rest of the Southland. I usually attack the snowdrifts with my trusty little Toro snow blower. It does a great job for it’s size, but when the city plow buries the end of my driveway with 3-4 feet of snow, it gives up. I usually tackle this big drift with a shovel - and then take a long nap. After seeing the huge snowdrift, my wife had an ‘Aha Moment’. She said, “Why don’t you just spread the big drift out over the driveway, and then snow blow it? ” I paused a nd tried to f ig ure out why I had never t hought of this. KEVIN BRADLEY I n t he 1980’s Da r yl Hall & John Oates teamed up to produce several hit Pop songs. Personally, I was not a big fan of their music back then, which was considered the height of their respective careers. Since I was not a fan, I did not follow their musical journeys over the years. As recent as 2014, however, Daryl Hall reappeared on the radar of my ears. I am an avid music listener. At that time I had discovered Palladia, a music themed television station which plays ma ny musica l genres. Da r yl ha s a week ly show on Palladia called “Da r y l’s Hou se.” E ach week he has a different g ue s t a r t i s t c om e on and play and talk about music. They also cook and eat food on each show. I f i nd it i nterest i ng a nd e nt e r t a i n i n g . Mu s ic a l guests come from all sorts of backgrounds and styles, but Daryl and his fantastic house band never cease to make it sound wonderful. I have become a big fan of Daryl Hall, an incredibly ver sat i le a nd t a lented musician and singer. Until this weekend, I hadn’t heard what Daryl’s old partner, John Oates was up to lately, but since becoming a fan of Daryl’s, I was curious. When I saw that John was going to be having a show of his own on Pa lladia, I hoped to

catch it. I did. I found him to be equally talented and entertaining as well. Here were two artists whose work I did not care for at the height of their career and now find both of them to be incredible musicia ns, singers a nd song w riters. Had their music cha nged or had my t a s t e s c h a n ge d ? I would have to say both have evolved. Although I still like the same music I have loved for decades, I find myself also enjoying a broader spect r u m of s ou nd . B ot h of t he s e artists have also evolved over the years. They are still doing what they love to do, but they’ve added so much depth to their music! T he world is f u l l of v icissit ude. Not h i ng r e m a i n s p e r m a n e nt l y t he sa me. If what you a re doi ng today is not widely appreciated, it is possible that you simply need a minor alteration, or perhaps in the future the world may change and find appreciation for what it is you are passionate about doi ng , t he ver y essence of whom you are. ARCHBISHOP BLAISE CUPICH DRAWS HUGE CROWDS AT ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE CHURCH IN SOUTH HOLLAND: The new Catholic Archbishop who succeeds Cardinal Francis George will be visiting many of the parishes in and around the suburbs. Most recently he visited St. Jude the Apostle in South Holland on Tuesday January 27th 2015 and to say he drew a crowd is an understatement! Catholics arrived by the carload and busload, so much so that the two church parking lots filled before 6 p.m. and the huge lot across the street at Almar Plaza was full by 7 p.m., the appointed time of his arrival. Dolton and South Holland Police blocked the church parking lot entrances but people walked around to the church from all points and crowded into the vestibule as you can see by the photo here. Cupich and Bishop Joseph Perry were surrounded by well wishers and cell phone cameras were snapping away. When N 2 N got there at about 6:30 p.m. some worshipers were sadly streaming away from the church having been turned away due to the large number of people already inside. Also pictured here is Fr. Charles Watkins and a fellow priest from the Archdiocese. The Mass took over an hour with musical renditions from different ethnic groups such as the Tamburitzans from Sacred Heart Church in South Chicago, Latin and African American groups as well. The event was joyous and filled with anticipation. Everyone wanted to hear what the new Archbishop had to say. He was a real trooper having been visiting parishes all day long. Thank God he is young and can stand the pace. He will have to take his vitamins for sure. A reception was held in the school gymnasium following the Mass where Archbishop Cupich mixed and mingled and took photos with the faithful. “You can’t say people don’t love him,” noted Mike Bednarz who, with wife Mary Ann was among those present Tuesday evening. “We are all anxious to see how he does with the Church’s in Chicago. We wish him well and are praying for him and with him.” ***
