Wouldn’t it be great if you could spend your life living your childhood fantasies? Once there was a young boy who dreamt of becoming an artist or a guy who could live with dinosaurs. Like many other boys, he loved reading comic books. Every time he got some spending money he would go to the local 7-Eleven and purchase the latest issues of his favorite heroes: Batman, G.I. Joe, and Spiderman. One particular 1980’s Spiderman stor y, “K raven’s Last Hunt”, impressed the boy immensely for its creepiness and engrained into his mind. Now an adult, Dan Dougherty has never lost his passion for comics. He makes his living illustrating comics and children’s books. Occasionally doing other projects or teaching art to kids. One of Dan’s current projects is illustrating a graphic novel edited by one of his childhood heroes, the author of “Kraven’t Last Hunt.” Dan hopes the future will bring a wider audience to one of his creator owned properties, such as “Beardo”, a satirical humorous look at real life, inspired by Dan’s real life experiences, “as he navigates through retail hell, working freelance, good and bad relationships, the ever changing body, and having a beard. Read Beardo at http://www.gocomics.com/ beardo. I found it to be intelligently written and humorous. ‘Making an autobiographical comic forces you to keep a sense of humor about yourself, which is a valuable tool for both the comic and life in general.” Dan also writes an award winning horror com ic st r ip, “Touch i ng Ev i l” i nspi red by “The Twilight Zone” style of “taking everyday people and intelligently throwing in the supernatural in a way that was equally smart and scary.” Touching Evil, 2014 Self
Published Comic of the Year, is about a woman cursed with the ability to kill anyone she touches…if the person is evil. Issue #5 will make its debut at the 2015 NWI Comiccon being held at The Halls of Saint George, 905 East Joliet St, Schererville, Indiana 46375 on Saturday, February 21st from 10am-6pm. At last year’s NWI Comic-con, “I sold out four of the seven books on my table, and that’s because there were people there that were just scooping up new comics they’d never tried because the show had a caliber of talent that inspired that kind of trust. Showrunner Brian Grabinski had a great problem last year; too many comic lovers for the size of his convention. He’s solved that this year by getting a bigger space, and I can’t wait to see these people again and be a part of such a great show.” Dan is also a trained assassin but says, “The job market for that is murder these days.” Be sure to visit Dan and over a hundred ot her ex hibitors leading lives in v iv id fantasy, where reality becomes blurred and blended with the imagination at the 2015 NWI Comic-con February 21st.

Financial Advice Column
Financial Preparations for Spouse Can Brighten Every Valentine’s Day BOB KRYGSHELD Va l e n t i n e’s D a y i s almost here. It’s fun to give a nd receive chocolates and roses, but why not go a little deeper this year? If you’re married, consider using this commemoration of love as a starting point for ta k ing care of your spouse in the future. You could designate Va lent ine’s Day as t he beginning of your joint efforts to provide financial security for the surviving spouse when one of you is gone. Your strategy should involve at least these three key elements: • Under st a nd i ng you r h o u s e h o l d ’s f i n a n c e s — In some ma r r iages, one spouse ha nd les a ll the finances. One spouse’s passing cou ld l e a v e t h e ot h e r w i t h t he responsibi l it ies of managing finances and tracking down investment information. These tasks could be over whelming to someone who is unprepared, so take steps to ensure both are aware of you r joint f ina ncia l picture. Keep good records of all your assets, including investment accounts, life insura nce policies a nd legal documents — and where they’re kept. Also, it’s a good idea to both meet regularly with your financial professional to ensure each understands you r i nvest ment s a nd progress toward achieving your financial goals. • Creating a future income plan — Discuss sources of income and which ones are specific to each spouse

and may be affected by a death, (ex. pensions, Social Security benefits). Discuss options to boost future income upon the death of a spouse. Do you have adequate life insurance and investments that can be structured to provide a lifetime income stream? Think about having the h ig her-ea r n i ng spouse delay ta k ing Socia l Security to maximize the survivor benefit for the surviving spouse. • L eav i ng a legac y — Discuss your estate plans and consulting with a legal advisor to determine if you could benefit from setting up some t y pe of t r ust a r ra ngement. Discuss how you want to handle any retirement assets titled in the deceased spouse’s name. Do you both want the assets to roll over to the surviving spouse, or should you name other benef icia r ies ? Estate considerat ions ca n be complex and involve many different aspects of your financial resources. So you and your spouse need to be “on the same page” with your desires and goals. Va lentine’s Day w ill come and go quickly. But if you use the occasion to start having the types of d i s c u s sion s de sc r ibe d above, you ca n create something that will last a lot longer than candy or flowers. Neuromas
Neuromas are a scarring of a sheath surrounding the nerve. They usually occur between the 3rd and 4th toes but can be found elsewhere as well. Symptoms include feeling a click in the ball of the foot, or electrical shocks shooting to the ends of the affected toes. Surgery is nearly always needed to alleviate the symptoms although injections, padding or physical therapy can help. If you have any questions concerning neuromas or any other foot problems, please stop by or call my office during office hours.

Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers Meets with President Obama During the United States Conference of Mayors in January, President Obama met with Dolton Mayor Rogers, along with mayors from across the country and encouraged them to continue to fight for important issues that make a difference in the lives of people every day. President Obama pledged his support for such issues as: Universal Healthcare, early childhood education, rebuilding infrastructure, and mentoring young people. President Obama said, “That’s what mayor’s do—you get the job done all over this great country. I support you in your important work.” Mayor Rogers along with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti are taking their support of President Barack Obama’s immigration executive order to court. Mayor Rogers joined more than 30 mayors nationwide to file an amicus brief in the Texas vs. United States, supporting President Obama’s executive order on immigration reform. The order, will protect more than 4 million undocumented immigrants from deportation. The suit was filed in Brownsville, Texas, and the aim of the amicus—or “friend of the court”—brief is to demonstrate support for the President’s case in court. The brief will point out the benefits of the order to cities, including work authorization for immigrants, increasing local tax revenue, stimulating economies, and keep families together, according to Mayor de Blasio’s office. In remarks during the conference, Mayor de Blasio praised the President for putting forth the immigration reform order, and said, “I think there’s a broad sense among mayors all over this country—again, all regions, all parties—because in our cities, we see the emerging America. And we see the impact of immigration, both from those who President Obama meets with United States Mayors. are documented and those who are undocumented, and we understand the need for comprehensive immigration reform. We live it,” Mayor de Blasio said, “We know what it would mean for people who we see every day in our cities. The President, in the absence of congressional action, I think has done exactly the right thing with a forceful executive action. This is one of those moments to be – to stand to be counted,.” The mayors signing on to the brief in support of President Obama’s order represent about 28.2 million people— 7.5 million of them immigrants, according to Mayor de Blasio’s office. United States Mayors support President Obama with a ‘Friend of the Court” amicus brief.

Real Estate Questions & Answers CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Question: We put an offer in on a house that was listed for $150,000. We offered $146,000 and asked the seller to pay $4000 for our closing costs. We felt this was a good offer, but the seller would only pay $2000 in closing costs. Our Realtor explained to t hem t hat we need t he $4000 to pay for all of our closing fees. Unfortunately we did not get the home because ou r of fer was rejected. We really wanted it because it fit our needs perfectly. We can’t understand why the seller would do this to us. What is your opinion of this? Answer: There are a few issues here. Let’s take them one by one: First, what did the seller do to you? They did not accept an offer that was not acceptable to them? How do you know that your offer was a very good offer? Did recent sales of similar homes indicate this? Did the seller counter with a higher sales price? Did the seller recently reduce the price of his home? How long was the home on the market? Just because you need $4000 in closing costs does not mean that the seller is obligated to pay for them. My opinion of the sellers counter offer Lansing 17710 Commercial 2-bdrm. 1-bath, 2nd flr. balcony, newly rehabbed, seniors welcome, $900/mo. is irrelevant. I don’t know their financial situation. It is their decision as to what they want to sell their home for, just as it is your decision as to how much you are willing to pay. This is called negotiating. Unless both parties to the offer agree, there is no sale. Your offer may be very good in this current market, but the seller did not find your offer acceptable. I a ssu me you were qua l i f ied to purchase a home listed at $150,000, since you were looking at homes in this price range. If you needed the total closing cost amount, and you really wanted this home, why didn’t you increase your offer to $149,000 or $150,000 and ask for the closing costs? This new offer may have been just enough to be acceptable to the sellers. $2000 more amortized over 30 years, at current interest rates, is less than $10 per month on your monthly payment. It is unfortunate that you didn’t get this home, but for a sale to be completed, both buyer and seller must agree on all the terms in the contract. Check with your Realtor. This home may still be available for a new offer and you may still be able to get your “perfect” home.

ANNA M. CAISON Roma nt ic love, ma ny crave it a nd passionately pu rsue it i n t hei r relationships. But romantic love that is not an out pouring of a life that is deeply rooted in the Author of Love is nothing more than a vapor or a withered flower at the end of the day. The greatest love the world can ever know and experience is the love of God. It is only when we begin to comprehend the depths of His love for us and allow Him to fill us with His love that we are able to genuinely love our spouse and others. “Greater love has no one than this that one lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13 NASB) Three years ago my plan was to move into a studio or senior living apartment that would cost less than where I was renting. But my granddaughter needed a place to live so I laid aside my plans and rented a place with room to take her in. Jesus, in a sense, put His life on hold and took on our humanity so He could ransom it to save ours. Are you willing to lay aside your personal plans to save your marriage or, lead a lost friend to faith in Christ? “God demonst rates His ow n love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 NASB) God loved us despite our sin; despite our faults and shortcomings. loved her (him) during the courtship, will you continue to love when marriage reveals his or her imperfections? Will you continue to love your spiritual sibling whose life before the Lord reveals YOUR flaws or, will you act in ways that subtly ridicule and humiliate him or her causing them to withdraw from fellowship? “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come…….will be able to separate us from the love of God……” (Romans 8:38, 39 NKJV) God’s love for us is perpetual; unwavering and secure. Not even the accusations of Satan or any other angel can come between us and God’s love. Will you guard your heart from allowing anything or anyone to pull you away from your spouse, or separate you from a friend? Ah…. “See what great love the Father has lav ished on us, t hat we shou ld be ca lled t he children of God ! A nd that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1 TNIV) Therefore, let us love our Valentine and others as He has (and continues to) love us. Candidates For D205 Friday night at the Buffalo Wild Wings an energized crowd gathered in support of 5 candidates for the Thornton Township School District-205 School Board. This school district covers the high schools of Thornwood in South Holland, Thornridge in Dolton, and Thornton in Harvey. Over 5,000 students attend these schools, and all 3 schools have a rich history of strong academics, sports, career, and college prep. Several programs include the Navistar Progam, the United Nations Summer Leadership Academy, Pre-Pharmacy Program, and Summer College & Career Camps. District 205 also partners with South Suburban College on many levels to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college. The election will be held on April 7, however, the candidates are getting an early start to get their message out to the community. Five board seats are up for election in April, which gives the community a unique opportunity to get involved in the direction of District 205 for the next four years. Their platform of ‘Children First’ rallied the crowd on Friday night and set the stage for a rousing campaign kick-off. Many community leaders were in attendance and pledged to support these individuals in their campaign. The slate includes Ray Banks, Al Butler, Sarah Chiestder, Nina Graham, and Annette Whittington. D205 Candidates from left— Al Butler, Annette Whittington, Sarah Chiestder, Ray Banks, Nina Graham. They each bring a unique set of talents and abilities to the board, and together they pledged to form a team that will lead District 205 into a bright future. In the coming weeks, the candidates will be informing the community of their qualifications to lead District 205. A brief introduction of the candidates is as follows: Ray Banks— Ray is Executive Director of Restoration Ministries in Harvey. This non-profit organization provides help and hope to many in our community who need a helping hand. Albert Butler—Al is a 30 year resident of Dolton and has taught for 19 years at Thornwood High School. Al teaches African American History and volunteers his time to make sure each District 205 students is equipped for success. Sarah Chiestder—Sarah is a graduate of Thornridge HS, and mother to 3 D205 graduates. Sarah is a business owner in Harvey, IL. Nina Graham—Nina has over 30 years teaching experience in a Harvey School District, and has served on a South Holland School Board for over 15 years. Annette Whittington—Annette has served on the Parent Advisor Board at D205, as well as the Human Relations Commission at Thornton Township Her 3 children all graduated from D205.

Speaking Of Seniors

We Made No Money On It WOODROW WILCOX The fall is the busiest t i me i n ou r i nsu ra nce agency because t hat is the time that the federal government schedules for senior citizens to review a nd consider cha ng ing t hei r Med ica re Pa r t D prescr ipt ion d r ug pla n coverage. L a st fa l l, I broug ht some papers to the office of our agent Sam Ulayyet to discuss a problem with him. I saw that he was on the phone. I did not want to interrupt him. So, I patient ly wa ited at t he door until he was finished. While I waited, I heard h i m he lpi n g a s en ior citizen. He told the client that he had researched what plans were available at a reasonable cost for a person who takes the medicines that this senior was taking. Sam Ulayyet told the client that there were good pla n s w it h three different firms. Our agency represented two of the firms with good plans, but not t he i nsu ra nce company with the best or lowest cost plan. He told the senior that the senior would have to phone that company directly to get that plan because we don’t represent it.
Imag i ne t hat. Sa m Ulay yet, t he nephew of t he fou nder of t h is insurance agency, helped a senior citizen to choose the best Medicare Part D prescr ipt ion d r ug pla n available for that senior despite the fact that this insurance agency would m a ke no mone y – no service commission – on the sale of the plan that was best for that senior citizen. Do you k now of any other insurance agent or i nsu ra nce agenc y t hat balances the need to make money to stay in business with the commitment to service to senior citizens in as unselfish a way as this? I don’t. Note : Woodrow Wi lcox is the senior medical bill c a se worker at Sen ior Care Insurance Services in Merrillville, Indiana. He has saved clients of t hat i nsu ra nce agenc y over one million dollars by cor rec t i ng med ic a l bi l l er rors t hat were caused by m ista kes i n the Medicare system. Illiana Heating Donates To Help Fight Breast Cancer Women w it hout adequate insura nce, but in need of diagnostic imaging will get the care they need at the Women’s Diagnostic Center, thanks to the generosity of a local business and physician. Checks in the amount of $4,295 and $1,000 have been presented to Mary Nicholson, MD, medical director of the women’s center in Munster on behalf of Illiana Heating & Air Conditioning and Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon David Robinson, MD, respectively. “These generous donations will help supplement a grant we have received from the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust,” said Nicholson. “We’re working to help women believe the truth that early detected breast cancers can be treated successfully. We strive to ease our patients’ minds, alleviate their stress and fear, and replace it with confidence in care that’s close to home. This funding will enable us to serve many more with the care they need,” she said. Six years after treatment, St. John resident Shelley DeYoung credits her recovery, in part, on her healthcare team at Community Hospital, the Women’s Diagnostic Center and support from her employers – Illiana Heating and Air Conditioning. To ensure other area women will be able to access the same quality care as their customer service representative
Mar y Nicholson, MD, fellowship-trained, dedicated breast radiologist on staff at Community Hospital and regional director of breast imaging services for Community Healthcare System, David Robinson, MD, plastic surgeon, Shelley DeYoung and Kevin Frump. ___________________________________
De Young, Tom, and his wife Sue Krygsheld of Illiana Heating and Air Conditioning, hold a fundraiser during October – Breast Cancer Awareness month. Proceeds from installs
and service calls during the month go to an account set up through Community Hospital to help other local women – those without insurance and who otherwise couldn’t afford them - receive diagnostic imaging at the Women’s Diagnostic Center. When Dr. David Robinson, also a member of DeYoung’s healthcare team, heard about the donations, he wanted to help too. He raised $1,000 toward breast cancer awareness by running in the 2014 Chicago Marathon and his check was added to the fund. With this funding, diagnostic imaging has been made available to those in need – providing care to more than one woman positive for breast cancer. Breast cancer is a disease that can be diagnosed early through routine mammography. The Women’s Diagnostic Center of Community Hospital offers digital mammography with same day results. With advances such as same-day results and coordination between area physicians, women can generally begin treatment for breast cancer within 10 days of diagnosis – saving lives. She Never Loved You MIKE BUDER The money you “lost” in your price reduction w a s n’t r e a l . I find myself, more and more, explaining to mournful sellers that the $15,000 that went down t he d ra i n when t hey reduced their price from $150,000 to $135,000 was a paramour that never loved them. “She never cared, Johnny.” “She wanted to close the Copa and make sure you never worked in this town again,” “it was all an illusion.” Since 2006, the pool of able buyers has shrunk. M i l l ion s of pr o s p e c t s have va n ished, due to either their own disasters or a l l t he ne w lender underwriting guidelines. Isaiah 61:4 tells us that those who are anointed by The Holy Spirit will “… rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations”. Satan can not stop the anointing of The Holy Spirit from coming upon the people of God; therefore he tries to keep us from coming together, and working together for God’s Kingdom and our communities.

I met t he pastors of t wo congregations that were only three blocks away f rom each ot her, but they did not know each other. One congregation had a serious need for a piece of equipment that would help take them to a higher level of excellence in ministry. The other congregation had been blessed with new equipment, and expressed a desire to give away their old equipment to make room for their new equipment. Their old equipment was the exact equipment that the other congregation needed. When I introduced the pastors to each other they were both thrilled that both of their needs were met, and that they could be of service to each other. That is a great example of how God’s Kingdom ou r c hu rc he s, a nd c om mu n it ie s prosper when you Love Your Neighbor, and Know Those Who Labor Among You. De e-Ta i l s L i fe st y le & Relat ion sh ip Segment: As a woman, I got issues, and so do you! Every man and woman does. For a woman, the question remains, can we find real awesome men that can love us in spite of our issues without succumbing to them for selfish gain? Can they take each issue, knowing that as it surfaces, he is the only man, Real Awesome Man, who can annihilate them with love and understanding? What’s a woman to do? The type of love she requires was often never received from her biological father. Yet, this woman is a Dunamis Woman! A woman of power filled with a heart of compassion, kindness, gentleness, meekness, and understanding-like her father! If a father had all these attributes as a man, why did he leave his daughter? Perhaps he had to leave the woman, who did not know how to treat him as a man; and abandoned his daughter or vice versa. It’s hard to believe this kind of woman or man is your mother and father. Wow! The truth is all of our souls are damaged. I am a mother, but also a damaged woman, and the daughter in me requires healing. As a daughter, I was caught up in a love that was tainted, toxic, and full of turmoil. What has this done to my own daughters? Drivers: CDL-A Company Solos. New Openings! A daughter is left out there trying to find love from another man who is like unto her father. That doesn’t mean she is necessarily trying to find an older man, he can be her age. She is subconsciously seeking to BE loved, which primarily puts her in the arms of any male or female man. This ultimately leads to the penis entering not only the body, but deeply into the soul (mind and emotions) of the woman- which is a father’s daughter. Even a female man (lesbian) still straps up with a penis, because a woman craves the attributes of a man – which is only a daughter who longs for her father. We all are damaged emotionally and mentally. Ever y daughter needs her father! His absence leaves scars repressed in the subconscious, hindering the process of gaining a wholesome sense of meaning for life. Therefore, what is buried becomes evident in our future generations. Every daughter has two options: Will you hurt or heal? The choice is yours! In 2015, join us at one of our 2015 Movement – Healing of the Daughters. Visit: www.dunamiswoma n.com. Watch us on Du na m is Woman Today on Total Living Network (TLN) every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. (check your cable listing).

What’s Your Big Idea? KEVIN BRADLEY “I’v e b e e n w r i t i n g and illustrating comics professionally for about eleven years now,” says Dan Dougherty, “For my college undergrad thesis show, I decided to make a proje c t t hat worke d in my wheelhouse, which was comics. I was fortunate enough to get the attention of a Chicago gallery from that, and that motivated me to finish the comic I had started which was then picked up by a local publisher. It was a one-t wo punch of good luck right out of college. I don’t think anything’s been that easy ever since.” Hav ing such a great start right out of the gate gave Dan the knowledge that he had the talent to make a living pursuing his passion. It helped him to believe in himself. That gave him the fortitude to press forward when things became more difficult. He adds, “Even a dream job is still a job. You have to work at it every day.” This is important to remember. Even i f you a re l iv i ng you r d re a m, you st i l l must be productive on a da i ly basis in order to succeed. Stephen K ing, for instance, writes every day. Just because you’ve had one success does not mean everything else goes on automatic. “I’d l i ke one of my creator owned properties to reach a broader audience,” is Dan’s goal for t he f uture. “There are countless ways that COULD happen. I’d like to figure out the way it WILL happen.” There are many roads to Chicago. T here a re ma ny more

That’s important to remember. Dan may love creating comics, but does he also love keeping i ncome a nd ex pense records for tax purposes? I doubt it. The Leading Edge
Confident Response RENEE N. HALE, DSL Each new day you will choose responses to people and circumstances. Even when you make no response at all it’s actually a message; but si lence may be confusing to others and could mean many things! Maybe you dread going in to work, or facing someone today with whom you are u ncom for table. W hy? We l l …c o n f l i c t i s n o t pleasant. Avoiding it is common and renders you unprepared for when it is unexpectedly “in your face” and you must choose your response. Therefore, c r e at e s ome p er s on a l processes that provide a framework for confident response in virtually any situation. Are you in a circumsta nce where y ou a r e a s k e d t o a c t u n e t h i c a l l y, i l l e g a l l y, or in a way that gravely contradicts your values? If so, have cou rage to take a stand for what you believe. Ask a friend or colleague to accompany you for support. But if the situation is not critical and someone is forcing his or her way simply to advance an agenda, then sparse words and involvement may circu mvent st r ife, a f ford i ng you t i me to think things through more carefully. Avoid investing emotional and intellectual e ne r g y i n e x t r a ne ou s conf lict. Be discerning and choose your battles wisely. Watch that you don’t
fall into the trap of selfaggrandizing and pride. Re m e m b e r t o r e s p e c t others’ values, opinions and input. According to leadership author Blaine Lee, “When people honor each other, there is a trust established that leads to synergy, interdependence, and deep respect. Both pa rties ma ke decisions and choices based on what is right, what is best, what is va lued most highly.” Honoring others can really pay off, so lead the way by example. Cont rol yourself. At t it ude is t he most impor ta nt factor in choosing your responses to others. Author Charles Swindoll says, “We cannot cha nge t he fact t hat people will act in a certain w a y. T h e o n l y t h i n g we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.” How is your self-control? Be discerning, honor others, and exercise selfcontrol. These actions set a personal foundation for a confident response to almost anything! D r. Re né e N. Macy’s Store Manager Asim Ali spoke with the Shopper recently and is excited about the upcoming season. At the helm of the iconic Calumet City department store since July of last year, Asim led Macy’s in upstate New York to production highs in customer satisfaction and plans to do the same here in the Midwest. “My family is from the Chicago area, so I was very happy when t h is posit ion opened up,” A si m noted recently. The Calumet City Macy’s has been in place at 159th and Torrence Avenue since the mid 1960s and is one of the major anchors of the conveniently located shopping center serving the south suburbs, southeast Chicago and near Northwest India na. A sim is pictured here in t he Michael Kors boutique on the second floor of the recently refurbished store surrounded by luxury items in the midst of a fabulous sale! Additionally, Thalia Sodi, Calvin Klein, North Face, Destination Maternity, Lauren
Ralph Lauren, International Concepts and Tommy Hilfiger to name just a few will all be on sale during the month of February. Asim wants to remind us that special Valentine’s Day Gift Guides are filled with warm and wonderful romantic gift ideas for our loved ones. And, if big-ticket items are on the family horizon, Macy’s Home sale includes 20 to 50% discounts in certain furniture and mattress items along with area rugs. One of t he h ig hest ranking American servicemen to be killed during WWII was General Rose. His troops referred to him as “the Division point” because he bravely led from the front. Sg t. something entirely different from the bronze battle stars we get for each campaign we were in. When I get back home I’ll explain all about it to you. Don’t worry, honey, I’m not going to be over here any twenty years! I expect to be home sometime this year, and hope to be home before the fall is over. Oh darling, just the thought of coming home to you sends those delicious shivers up and down my spine! I’ll always maintain that the happiest moment of my life was when I heard you say “I do,” but the moment when I take you in my lonely arms again will be almost as happy. T im e for b e d n ow, honey, so hurry up, wash your face, brush your teeth and join me. Oh yes, I almost forgot—you wash your feet each night too ‘cause you like to walk around barefoot. MMMMM FISH FRYS ON FRIDAY EVENINGS: It’s that time of year again where all the various community and Veteran’s organizations host delicious fish fry’s each Friday evening. Pictured here are a trio of volunteers at American Legion Post 330 in Calumet City on a recent Friday night. They are Norb Cipowski, a Thornton Township Trustee and Post member; Patty Sipple, Secretary of the Post 330 Women’s Auxiliary and “Little” Helen Kozikowski also a member of the Post 330 Women’s Auxiliary. Norb, Patty and Helen are regulars on the Post 330 Fish Fry circuit and Helen has been selling tip boards that help support the Post’s activities on behalf of Veteran’s for many years. In fact, at 84 plus years, she is one of the Ladies Auxiliary’s most active participants. A variety of fish are offered along with chicken nuggets on Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m.. The Ladies Auxiliary also hosts a bake sale from time to time. Great fun and lots of locals show up to check out what is new and exciting! ***
F U N I D E A F O R A PA R T Y O F GATHERING: Darnell Towns, pictured here with a camera shy admirer, shows up during the Calumet City American Legion Post 330 Fish Fry’s Fridays and offers to do a caricature for $5. If you would like Darnell to come to your home or party he charges $150 to entertain your guests with their own caricatures. His motto is --”we’ll draw your face-you just provide the space!” He takes credit cards and does a quite accurate depiction of his subjects all in great fun! Call at Darnell at 312-437-1108 for more information. *** SHOW UP AND SHINE! If you listened to WLS radio a few years ago, specifically the Larry Lujack Show, his sidekick (in addition to Little Tommy of course) was Catherine Johns. Ms. Johns has turned from her broadcasting career to writing books. She was selling and signing said book Saturday February 7th, 2015 at Miles Books, 2819 Jewell Avenue in Highland, In Her book is a self help, how to, tome which shows us ‘simple steps to boost our confidence and charisma.’ The book signing and mini workshop drew a capacity crowd who remember her from the Lujack show and as expected, had lots of questions about what the late, great DJ was really like. In her mini-workshop Catherine asked us what we could do if we had the kind of “strong personal presence that commands attention and respect?” “Show Up and Shine” hopes to help us answer that question. We learn how to project confidence and charisma so we can get more of what we want in business and in life! Miles will carry the book. You can get a copy by calling 219838-8700. *** ST JUDE THE APOSTLE WOMEN’S CLUB SALAD BUFFET: St. Jude the

Pictured here is the buyer, Alma Haviland, next to her hubby Jack Haviland at left, and the sellers of the all brick cape cod, the family home of Patricia Yamich, Judith Katalinic, Michael Anthony, Katherine M. Yamich. Seated are the attorneys’ who coordinated the transaction- Ed Grossman and Roberta Cioe Buoscio and at right, yours truly, Illinois and Indiana Broker Associate Janice Minton Kutz with Coldwell Banker Schererville, selling agent.
