These days it’s a popular pastime to imagine life without a certain segment of the population. I know some people who say that a day without dogs and cats would leave a huge hole in their lives. Sure, living a day without our f urr y friends would be tough to get through, but how about liv ing a day w it hout a not her v er y super important part of our lives. Imagine for a moment a ‘Day Without Men’. Now I agree that a day without men would make it much easier for anyone driving on our highways. A fter a ll, w ithout men, who wou ld use t he shou lder a s a pa ssi ng la ne ? The shou lder would be completely free and unobstructed – just the way it was intended. That’s a waste of good pavement in the minds of quite a few men that I k now. Si nc e we a re spea k i ng of d r iv i ng sk ills – let’s ta lk about red lig ht ca meras. For some reason that yellow light sure looks green to a lot of us guys. Without men, the red-light camera industry would go out of business. Ticket revenue would dry up and instead of multiplying like rabbits, those annoying cameras wou ld be a d ista nt memory – just like 8 track tapes. I had trouble thinking of more examples of what a ‘Day Without Men’ would look like, but my daughter came to the rescue. She didn’t have any problem rattling off several – right off the top of her head. She reminded me that without

men, there would never be an empty toilet paper roll sitting politely in the bathroom – just waiting for t he nex t person to d i s c ov er. O r t her e wou ld n’t be a n empt y milk carton sitting in the fridge, after the man of the house drank out of it to save the work of putting his glass in the sink. You never k now – someone may just need a teaspoon of milk, and there it will be – nice and cold too. In my opin ion a day w it hout men would be so utterly boring. After a l l , w h o w ou l d of f e r random tidbits of trivia a nd unsolicited adv ice in t he course of polite conversation? Who would dominate conversation at the water cooler with statistics of their favorite sports team. Even better – their fantasy team. For those who don’t know – fantasy sports teams don’t even really exist but still need plenty of research and in-depth analytical skills. Spea k i ng of sk i l ls. Steve Harvey the brilliant game show host and TV persona l it y once sa id, ‘My k ids told me t hat I don’t have a ny sk i l ls like a doctor, law yer or accountant. I told them if they wanted to see one of my skills just look in the refrigerator!” I hope you enjoyed this c olu m n a nd t h i n k i ng about what a ‘Day Without Men’ would look like. The money you “lost” in your price reduction w a s n’t r e a l . N o o n e could predict since 2006 where prices would go, but it is clear now that t he few buyers we had were sk imming t he absolute crea m of f t he top and leaving the rest. They would sometimes fight over a good listing, creating isolated illusions of urgency. These were usua l ly n ice homes pr iced to t he bone for their category. Today with sellers, I have to approach a pr ice reduct ion w it h t he d iplomac y of a funeral director but be as convincing as a physician imploring his patient to q u it s mok i n g . Mone y lost in a price reduction was never your money. It was an illusion. It didn’t exist. I find myself, more and more, explaining to mou r n f u l s el ler s t h at t he $15,0 0 0 t hat went dow n t he d ra i n w hen they reduced their price from $150,000 to $135,000 w a s a pa r a mou r t h at never loved them. “She ne ver c a re d, Joh n ny.” “She w a nte d to c los e the Copa and make sure you never worked in this town again,” “it was all an illusion.” Since 2006, the pool of able buyers has shrunk. They are heav ily invested in the group think notion that they must get a steal or they will be exposed to grave financial risk. Here’s the reality: if your home is multiple listed (MLS), shows well as has been on the market for 60 to 90 days with no offers or few lookers, the market has spoken; you need to reduce your price. You are not the Smith’s down at t he end of t he cu lde-sac who sold in t he first 30 days. They had something or ten things you don’t have and the only adjustment you can make to the buying public is price. If you are in the ML S, you r home is i n good condition and you are not sold, the faster you address your price the faster you’ll sell. The money you are asking for is not on deposit in the bank of buyer opinion. Calvary Academy Celebrates Black History Month

ANNA M. CAISON “Jef f Sessions L i kely Met Russia n Ambassador A Third Time” “Trump/ Pence Regime-Illegitmate Fascist” Tens Of Thousands Protest Planned Repeal Of Aca” “Gop Fix For Obamacare: Rich Get Tax Breaks While Millions Of Others Lose Healthcare” “Are Trump’s Ties To Russia A Dangerous Security Issue?” “Members Of Trump Team Met With Russians During Campaign” For several weeks, I’ve been focusing on Psalm 2. It has become a source of comfort and reassurance to me every time a disturbing headline surfaces about the current administration. I envision the Ancient of Days seated on His throne. He beckons me to come near and rest. I draw near and take a position at His feet, resting my head on His knee. He reminds me that He is still in charge regardless of what’s happening in the world. The “times of the gentiles” is nearing fulfillment-the kings and rulers are conspiring, and nations are gathering together to do battle against the Lord. God laughs! I consider His response and

I laugh too! Men plot to gain power, to control people, wealth, and countries; futile! Their leader (unknown to them) is the old serpent, Satan. His goal is to destroy humanity, God’s prized creation. But Satan is a fallen angel, a created, fallen angel and is already defeated. The only humans he’ll succeed in destroying are those who have vehemently rejected the Lord’s gift of salvation. At the appointed time the Lord will return - and the rulers of this world, along with the wicked and depraved, will become a feast for the birds to dine on. And God’s people will inherit the earth. I can face whatever comes today, or tomorrow because I know the one who holds the future of mankind. And He who holds the future has me, and all those who belong to Christ, in the palm of His hand. For questions and/or comments, send an email to anna.a62@yahoo.com . Or you can write me at: Anna Caison, P.O. Box 529, Lansing, IL 60438.

Important people i n Wa s h i ng ton a nd elsewhere want everyone in America to believe that the federal government can run things better than anyone else. But, if letting the federal government r un our hea lt h ca re is such a great idea, why are there so many problems with Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare? For four teen yea rs, I have fought mistakes and f raud i n t he Med ica re system and have saved the clients of our insurance agency much more than one million dollars. And t hat’s most ly w it h just f i x i ng m ista kes i n t he Medicare system. Because I have fou nd so ma ny problems in the system for so long, I am a real “pain” to those who pretend that the federal government can run the health care system well. I’m proud to be that kind of “pain”. W h e n I s t a r t e d , Medica re a nd t he Veterans Administration were not even communicating properly about Medicare claims for senior citizen vetera ns. The problem was costing senior citizen veter a n s more mone y for health care because t he ca lculations of t he Me d ic a r e de duc t i ble s were so wrong. I got tired of it a nd made phone calls to complain. Each t i m e I a s k e d f or t he phone number of the next bureaucrat up the ladder. I told people in Washington t h at t he s y s t em t he y designed was not working a nd how it wa s not working. To my surprise, somebody in Washington finally listened me and made some changes that improved the system and av oide d pr oblem s for elderly veterans. On Febr ua r y 15 a nd 16, I helped a woma n from De Motte, Indiana. T h e r e w e r e l a y e r s of

On one phone call to a Medicare office, we got a recording t h a t t old u s t h a t w e should expect to wait 25 to 38 minutes before we cou ld ta l k to someone at that office. That is a clear sign of inefficiency and waste in the federal bureaucracy. When I give my lectures on the Medicare system a nd where I f ind most of t he m ista kes a nd f raud, I conclude w it h t h i s m e s s a g e f or t he audience: the medicare system was not designed to help senior cit i zens w it h me d ic a l bi l l s. It was desig ned to ma ke bi l l ions of dol la rs per yea r for gover n ment industry contractors and gover n ment i ndust r y bureaucrats. It does that job very, very well. Time for Some Financial Spring Cleaning BOB KRYGSHELD Spring is in the air, even if it’s not quite there on the calendar. This year, why not also do some financial spring cleaning? Actually, you can apply several traditional spring cleaning techniques to your financial situation. Here are a few ideas: • Look for damage. You may have deliberately const r ucted you r p or t fol io w it h a n i nve st ment m i x – stocks, fixed-income vehicles, cash instruments, etc. – that’s appropriate for your goals and risk tolerance. But over time, your portfolio can evolve in unexpected ways. For example, your stocks may have grown so much in value that they now take up a larger percentage of your holdings than you had i ntended, possibly subjecting you to a h ig her degree of risk. If this happens, you may need to reba la nce your portfolio. • Get rid of “clutter.” As you look around your home, do you see unneeded things? If these items no longer have value, you could get rid of them and clear up some living space. As an investor, you also might have “clutter” – in the form of investments that no longer meet your needs. If you sold t hese invest ments, you cou ld use t he proceeds to fill gaps in your portfolio. • C o n s o l i d a t e . D o you keep your law nmower in a shed, a rake in your g a r a g e , a nd y ou r gardening tools in the basement? You might find it more efficient to have all these items in one location. You could also have your

investments scattered about – an IRA here, a new 401(k) there, and an older 401(k) someplace else. But if you consolidated all your investments i n one place, you might cut down on paperwork and fees, a nd you wou ld n’t r isk losi ng t rack of a n asset (which act ua l ly happens more t han you might think). Even more i mpor ta nt ly, when you have a l l y ou r i n v e s t m e nt s w it h one prov ider, you’l l be bet ter positioned to follow a single, centralized investment strategy. • Prepare for a rainy day. You m a y w a nt to look at your gutters to ma ke sure t hey are clear and in good repair, so that they can move rainwater away f rom you r home. Your financial goals need protection, too, so you’ll want to ensure you have ade quate l i fe a nd disability insurance. • S e a l l e a k s . L i k e i n you r home, you r investment portfolio m i g ht h a v e s ome “ l e a k s” a l s o. A r e i nvest ment-related ta xes siphoning off more of your earnings than you realize? A financial professional can offer you r e c om m e n d a t i on s for appropriate t a x-adv a nt a ge d investments. This spring, take some time to also tidy up your financia l env ironment. You may be pleased with the results. This article was written by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Bob Krygsheld 501 W Exchange St. Crete, IL 60417 (708) 672-2892.

Overcoming Your Credit Card Crisis The battle with credit card debt can be a constant struggle against high interest rates and monthly payments that never seem to make a dent in what you owe. How is it possible to make monthly credit card payments and never get anywhere? This problem is caused by high interest rates that eats up most of your payments. Even though you make your minimum payment, you don’t make much headway eliminating the debt. Luckily, there’s a way to find debt relief without incurring more debts. Using certified credit counseling like Consolidated Credit, you can get

professional advice to identify the right solution for your needs. A certified credit counselor can review your options to see which solution is best for you. You can qualify for lower interest rates or even eliminate them, while consolidating your credit card debt into one easy payment to get you out of debt faster. Every financial institution differs, but most people see a reduction of total payments by up to 30-50% as they pay off debt faster. Freedom from debt can become a reality!

Trout Family Baseball Legacy

T h e n a m e “ Tr o u t ” h a s l o n g b e e n associated with major league baseball. Two of those Trouts are related and have a local connection. Former pitching great, Paul “Dizzy” Trout, played 13 seasons for the Detroit Tigers and helped pitch them to the 1945 World Series win over the Chicago Cubs. In 1960 Trout was hired by the White Sox to work in the front office and soon thereafter moved his wife, Pearl, and their 10 children to South Holland where the family continued to reside for over 30 years. While the kids were constantly playing sports across from their home on Riverview Drive, one of the ten followed in dad’s footsteps. High School was selected by the Chicago W hite Sox as a pick in the draft. He was brought up to the parent club in 1978 and went on to play 12 years in the majors. In 1983, he was involved in a trade that sent him to the North side where he helped lead the Cubs to a divisional championship in 1984. That season ended dismally with the Cubs just seven outs away from getting to the World Series. Now, you can add another Trout to the family baseball legacy, but not as a player. Richard, “Dizzy’s” second son, does his “pitch i ng ” w it h h i s pen. Re c ent ly he published his first book of poetry, “We Are the Champions.” What is unique about this book is that it combines his love of baseball with his love of poetry and his connection to Chicago. The book of 13 poems focuses specifically on the 2016 postseason run of the Chicago Cubs. It grew from one “epic” poem, “A Season to Remember” and then added eleven “Victory Poems,” one for each win of the post season. “By the time we won that dramatic seventh game in Cleveland, I knew I had to put them all together in one volume.” Rich has more time to devote to writing since his retirement from Chicago’s Fenger High School where he taught English for 35 years. After Fenger, he has spent the last 15 years teaching at T.F. South in Lansing, Seton Academy in South Holland, South Suburban College, and Glenwood Academy where he worked as a house parent until 2015. He now lives in Lynwood with his wife of 50 years, Linda a nd ca n be reached v ia ema il at richandlindatrout@gmail.com.

I have already signed the contract and was not told anything about the current fuel oil that’s in the tank at the home. I have been notified by the seller that I have to pay for the remaining oil. I looked at the purchase contract and nothing is stated on it about fuel oil. Do I have to pay for the oil? Answer: Yes. W hen you go to closing you w i l l see t hat t here a re va r ious “adjustments” made as part of the normal settlement process. It’s a routine matter to credit the seller for oil in the tank. A good exa mple of t his is homeow ner association dues (HOA). The seller may have pre paid for the month that you will take ownership. The title company will then pro rate this payment and credits and debits will go to the seller and buyer on the settlement statement. This is hardly unfair. The oil is not a gift,

you will use it to heat the home plus the seller paid for it. Alternatively, the sale agreement does not prevent the seller from draining the tank before settlement, meaning you would have to find a new oil supplier to re-fill the tank at today’s prices. And remember, as you say nothing about oil was mentioned in t he sa le agreement. In this situation everyone benefits by paying for the oil and leaving it in place. That’s fair and that’s reasonable. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 802, located at 5820 Hohman Ave is hosting their monthly meeting which is held on the last Thursday of every month a tradition that started 9 years ago, by Jim Chancellor who speaks at all the meetings. J i m C h a n c e l l or i s t h e f ou n d e r of A mer ica n Vetera ns Col lect ion a nonprofit organization that help veterans, by giving lectures on Post Traumatic Stress. Chancellor will participate in the group discussions on Post-Traumatic Stress. The meeting will start 7 p.m. Chancellor said, “he learns something new at every meeting he attends.” He wants veterans to come and listen to other soldiers’ stories and encourages them to share their own experiences. Chancellor started something new this year and wanted the public to be aware that

there will be 2 types of meetings this year. One meeting will be a closed meeting for veterans who have been there awhile. Then there will be a second meeting for everyone else. The first meeting is on the last Thursday of every month and will be by invitation only because of some of the disabilities of the veterans. The second meeting will be for veterans who want to tell their stories to the public, but those dates are tentative. The meetings have members from all types of other affiliates that can help the veterans with issues and any other questions about medical and compensation benefits. Chancellor says, “the meetings are not just for veterans but the family members and the surrounding communities.” So, come in and support the troops.
