Parents Should Not Be A Party To Underage Drinking July 1, the new social host law goes into effect. It is illegal to provide alcohol to minors and now it is illegal to provide a place for them to drink it. During the 2014 legislative session, the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking worked with legislators to pass the social host law, which was part of SB 236, makes it a Class B misdemeanor for adults knowingly and intentionally provide a place for minors to drink. The offense becomes a Class A misdemeanor if the person has a prior unrelated conviction; and a Level 6 felony if the consumption, ingestion, or use of the alcoholic beverage is the proximate cause of the serious bodily injury or death of any person. “This new law is a great tool for law enforcement to use in their efforts to disperse and disband underage drinking parties”, said Lisa Hutcheson, director of the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking. “We hope that parents and other adults understand the criminal and civil liability of providing a place for minors to drink and will not become a party to underage drinking”. The Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking, a subsidiary of Mental Health America of Indiana, is an advocac y coa l it ion, add ressi ng t he ava i labi l it y a nd accessibility of alcohol to minors through education and policy.

It will be on Saturday, August 2nd, in Munster’s beautiful Centennial Park. The location is on Centennial Park Drive, east of the stop light at the Calumet Avenue and Columbia Avenue intersection. The time is 4:00 p.m., or any time up to 8:00 p.m. The grills will be hot and ready. The Lions will cook you a sizzling steak or a tasty half chicken as you watch. You and your family and friends can eat outside, or inside the clubhouse. Either way you can enjoy a view of the lakes, the music pavilion and the park gardens as the evening sun goes down. The menu also includes hot and buttery corn-on-thecob, a steaming baked potato, onions and mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, salad and your choice of non-alcoholic beverages. Beer and wine will be available at extra cost. Boy Scout Troop 533 will have desserts available, for their own fund raiser. You can have your dinner in takeout boxes if you wish. The tickets are $20 for adults, $7 for children under 12 for hot dogs or hamburgers. See Munster Lions Club members for tickets and information, or buy your tickets when you arrive. Warts are a bump in the skin characterized by pain with squeezing of the wart. They are caused by a virus which invades the individual cells of the skin. There have been many treatments available through the years ranging from voodoo to laser surgery, including use of acids and burning out the wart. Therefore, the treatment should be done with the patients lifestyle in mind. Right or Left? ARLO KALLEMEYN The number of federal laws has risen from 3,000 in the early 1980’s to over 4,450 by 2008. How is a person supposed to keep track of all these laws? The US locks up a lot of people for breaking the law. Our country has over 2 million people behind ba rs for breaking the various laws of our country. The right wing wants more people i n ja i l – wh i le cut t i ng prison budgets. The left wing wants all criminals r e h a bi l it a t e d t h r ou g h education and community s e r v ic e . Ne it he r v ie w makes any sense, but the two sides rarely sit down to talk through the issue. They do a lot of talking at each other, but very little listening to each other. In all the discussion about cr ime in t he US - and who is to blame, I ra rely hea r t he ter m persona l responsibilit y. Yo u k n o w t h a t o l d fash ioned ter m t hat means acting in a moral and ethical way towards others – even when the law is not watching. Take l it t er i ng for e x a mple. Every town has an antil it ter i ng l aw on t hei r b o ok s . D id y ou k now t hat l it ter i ng law s a re a l most i mpossible to enforce? After all, what a re t he cha nces t hat a policeman is in the exact r ig ht moment to catch that fast food cup f lying out the car window? Slim to none. So w hy i sn’t there more littering? Why don’t you and I roll down our window and toss our t ra sh ? It ’s because we have personal values and morals that forbid us to act like that – whether we get
a ticket or not. Isn’t that true? Thankfully, it makes sense to the majority of people to live in harmony w it h t hei r nei g h b or s . However, there is small set of folks who don’t have a clue about per sona l re spon sibi l it y. T h i s i s why we need t he laws, pr ison, ja i ls, detent ion centers and on and on. The price tag for locking up those who don’t get it is staggering. Our epidemic of incarceration costs us ta xpayers $ 63 billion a year. I’m not even sure what a billion dollars is, but $63 billion is a whole lot of schools, parks, low interest students loans, hospita ls, pot hole f ree roads a nd ser v ices for ou r s e n ior s , v e t e r a n s and foster kids. We can’t a f ford t h is $ 63 bi l l ion much longer. Passing more laws is not the solution. L aw s c a n not en force mora l it y a nd persona l responsibilit y. We need to get back to basics. The basics that could be found in this country for its first 20 0 yea rs. I’m t a l k i ng about teaching religion in our community schools. Removing morals, ethics, and religion from public educat ion has been a n exercise in fa i lure. It’s time to reintroduce these importa nt classes back i nt o t he s c ho ol s t h at we finance – our public schools. It’s never too early to start - however it may soon be too late.

Dolton Responds to Storms
8
Last Tuesday powerful storms swept through the Southland and resulted in power loss for homes and businesses throughout the area. In Dolton over 5,000 homes were without power. Mayor Rogers coordinated with ComEd for constant updates—and the fire and police departments were mobilized for wellbeing checks. Ice and water was available free of charge to residents at the fire station. At-risk seniors living in Dolton were paid a special visit by police and fire personnel, who delivered ice, water and personal attention. ComEd activated field workers from as far away as Indiana and Ohio to help with the widespread power outages. Mayor Riley commends the first responders of Dolton and expressed his appreciation for the extra help that ComEd provided both during and after the storm.
Mayor Riley meets with TV reporters to spread the word about emergency services available in Dolton after the storm.

GOD WITH US
www.myshopper.biz/columnists/
Faith & Contraception ANNA M. CAISON “I hate divorce!” God says through the prophet Malachi (Malachi 2:16). Yet, God allowed Moses to grant divorce. When God created marriage He didn’t include an escape clause. Marriage was to be a permanent bond between husband and wife making them one in purpose with God; a beautiful illustration of the Trinity, and God’s eternal love for His people. Moses permitted divorce to protect the injured spouse (w ife) because of the “hardness of heart” of the husband (Matthew 19:1-9). Husbands were coming to Moses complaining that their wives were no longer pleasing to them wanting to end the marriage. In Malachi, the husbands were divorcing their wives so they could marry women who worshiped idol gods. A bill of divorce protected the rejected wife from the accusation of adultery so she could remarry. Today’s hot social uproar is the moral issue of contraception. Contraception appl ie s on l y to t he pre vent ion of conception or impregnation. Although some opponents of contraception have implied that abortion and the abortion pill is included as contraception; this is not true. Abortion/abortion pill is the termination of life t hat had a lready begun. Sex ua l i nt i mac y (i ntercou rse) is a celebrator y act of t he love a nd commitment of two lives becoming one. And from this union life is created and born. Sexual intimacy was designed 4bed/2bthrm hse with hrdwood floors, fireplace, laundry room, backyard with deck/privacy fence, on a quiet block located in Riverdale Ivanhoe. $1350.00 per mos. 312-339-9753 3 Bedroom 1 bath house, newly remodeled. exclusively for husbands and their wives. Because of the “hardness of heart” of societ y, sexua l intimacy has been distorted a nd used outside of God’s design. Today (as in the past) sexual intercourse has become casual without commitment, considered as an act of pleasure and even entertainment. Those who have this view enjoy the act but don’t want the fruit (children) of the act. Contraception prevents unwanted babies from being conceived. Some w ill say dispensing contraceptives condones the moral decay of society specifically for our teens and young adults. “Hardness of heart” is the condition of ungodly men and women liv ing outside of God’s purposes for them. The concessions of divorce and contraception are for the protection of the injured spouse and the un-conceived ch i ld. Ch r ist ia ns ca n’t force nonChristians to live by God’s Commands. They are incapable of doing so because they have not been born of the Spirit of God. However, Christian parents need to continue to teach and encourage their children and other believers to adhere to God’s design for marriage and sexual intimacy. For questions and/or comments send an email to acaison@sbcglobal.net . Or you can write me at: Anna Caison, P.O. Box 529, Lansing, IL 60438.

Life’s Storms As I write this, some of you are still w ithout electricit y. The June 30 storm k nocked 80% of Sout h Holland off t he grid, toppled trees and left water in many ba sement s, i nclud i ng ou rs. Slosh i ng through dank darkness in rubber boots by the light of my phone, I mused that this wasn’t how I had planned to spend the 1st of July. Today, four words come to mind in connection with this experience. (1) Dependence : Electric power is an a llpervasive hum in the background of our lives. It enables our daily functions, yet we hardly notice it. We take it for granted. Until it’s not there. Then we’re humbled by how much we depend on it for just about everything. I tend to think of God the same way. He’s always there, pouring out on me his gifts – food, shelter, health, abilities, faith, love, family and community. Yet I qu ick ly forget about h i m as t he Source and slide into the illusion of selfsufficiency. (2) Community: I’m not the handiest guy around. Thankfully, we live in a church-owned home and members of my church quickly came around to sort out pump problems, to determine what needed to be done, and then to help us get
Office Space For Rent it done. I learned a few things from them in the process. In addition, unexpected help showed up at the door, someone watched the kids, others loaned their generator for a time. It was humbling. God wired us for community – yes, to serve one another, but also to need each other. (3) Cleansing: The water itself cleaned nothing. Still, it forced us to clean out the basement and throw out things that needed to go. Meanwhile, things surfaced in my heart that also needed to go – a grumbling spirit and impatience to name a few. Only God can clean out the heart. And that can be a messy process. (4) Confidence: In a soggy-bottomed box of Christmas decorations, we found The Advent Book, a beaut if u l ly i l lust rated re-telling of the coming of Jesus in twentyfive readings, leading up to Christmas day. It lay undamaged, less than an inch above the water. Life’s storms and floods can derail our plans and make our lives difficult. But nothing can spoil the unfolding story God is writing in human history and our lives, including the coming of Jesus to make all things new. S.H.L.L. Champions 2014 Why be afraid of the new technology? DUANE MUHAMMAD
Does it seem to you that computers, televisions, phones and other electronic devices are out of date as soon as you purchase one? It seems that way. But what can you do about it? Should you just keep your old f lip phone? The television you have does not have WiFi. Should you get the latest f lat screen TV called a smart TV? You don’t have a camera that you’re still taking to Walgreen’s to get the film developed? Or do you? There was t his t hing ca lled, “The digita l div ide”. I never subscribed to it because I believe a person no matter what their age can learn about the new technologies that surround their everyday lives. It sort of reminds me when I was learning how to drive an automobile. At first, it all seemed so overwhelming. But my patient father took the time to teach me little by little. Unlike one of my older brothers who had absolutely no patience in teaching me, his little brother. I felt super confident going to the DMV to secure my license after great instructions from my father. I passed the driving test with flying colors! Why? Because my dad took the time to teach me based on his vast experience of driving automobiles
Congratulations D-Backs S.H.L.L. Minors Champions 2014.

whether they were manual transmissions or the modern automatic transmission. So, what am I saying? Stop having young people show you how to work your phone, computer, etc. Take the time to have one of the young ones to teach you how these contraptions work. That’s right, ask someone to teach you how to work the computer properly. Ask someone to show you how to work your new fangled phone. There’s a nephew, a grandson or granddaughter who is more than anxious to show you how to work probably every electronic device in your home. But if you’re comfortable with the old flip phone and the fat television, if it serves your purpose, what the heck? Stay with what you have. But if you decide to come with the rest of the world in the 21st Century, there is plenty help around. Your local library is a great source for learning this new technology. But again, your help may be right under your nose. A loved one or family member that’s really into this technology is anxious to take the time and be patient showing you how simple operating these new technological devices are really about. They’re really easier than what you may think.

Medicare Four Months Tardy
WOODROW WILCOX On Ju ne 25, 2014, I spent a n hou r on t he phone with our client and Medicare to get Medicare to correct its erroneous records about our client. The client is from Valparaiso, Indiana. We spoke to three Medicare representatives at three departments. The client is a victim of t he Oba maca re law (a.k.a. “Affordable Care A c t ” ) . He r e m plo y e r cancelled the group health insurance plan for all the employees. This forced them to obtain insurance through other Obamacare approved insurance plans. Our client had anot her option. The client worked past age 65. So, she could go on Medicare and obtain a Medicare supplement insurance policy with a much lower premium. She (a nd a l l her c o -w or ker s ) lost her employer’s group health plan coverage on February 28, 2014. Her Medicare and Medicare supplement coverage started March 1, 2014. But, when the client and I phoned Medicare on Ju ne 25, it had not yet updated the records. Med ic a re record s st i l l
showed that our client was on an employer provided group health insurance plan. Medicare had not c h a n g e d o u r c l i e n t ’s records for about fou r mont h s. D u r i ng t hat t i me, t he doctors who gave her service were not being paid any thing by Medicare and Medicare was not forwarding claims information to the client’s Me d i c a r e s u pp l e m e nt insurance company. Note : Woodrow Wi lcox is the senior medical bill c a se worker at Sen ior Care Insurance Services in Merrillville, Indiana. Wilcox has helped senior clients of that agency save over one million dollars by cor rec t i ng med ic a l bi l l er rors t hat were caused by m ista kes i n the Medicare system. He wrote the book SOLVING MEDIC A R E PROBLEM $ (www.solvingmedicareproblem s .c om ) to t e ac h others how to help senior cit i zens w it h Medica re related med ica l bi l l problems. Big Idea?
KEVIN BRADLEY Can you imagine the feeling of elation Orville a nd Wilbur Wright experienced when t he a i r pla ne t hey had designed and assembled left the ground and f lew for the first time? They had to feel an immense sense of pride for their g reat accompl ish ment. This is a feeling we should all strive for. True enoug h…we’re not a l l cut out to make such a groundbreaking advance in technolog y, however even sma l ler sca le self ac c ompl i s h ment s w i l l i mbibe ou r sou ls w it h similar feelings. Un for t u nately, too many people nowadays expect instant g rat i f icat ion w it hout putting in the time and effort required to attain t he de s i r e d out c om e . They attempt to reach the ends without the means. They believe t he world owes t hem somet h i ng. Instead of developing a plan, working hard toward a goa l, doing t heir due diligence… they expect things to just be handed to them. This is why so many people are in such dire straits financially. They confuse their wants for their needs, live beyond their means and in the process, ironically, destroy the very dreams they hope to attain. These dreams are destroyed when the individuals accumulate so much debt, they can never dig themselves out. F o r t u n a t e l y, n o t ever yone thinks in this unrealistic manner. Let me tel l you a litt le bit about a guy named Joe. Joe wanted to be an author. It is all he ever really wanted to do. It was certainly not a far-fetched fantasy for Joe to assume that he could succeed in this field, an extremely difficult field to break into and become successful in. However, Wanted: Chevrolet 2010 or 2011 HHR LT. Call Dave. 708730-0239 Wa n t e d l a w n m ow e r, snowblower, rototills, old mini bikes, parts, tools, bars, engines, yard stuff, old trains. both of Joe’s parents are aut hors and t he family members were a l l av id readers, discussing books they had read on a daily basis over dinner…So Joe had a good foundat ion from his family for his dream career. Most w r iters face ma ny rejec t ion let ters before breaking into the t r ad it iona l publ i sh i ng ma rket. Joe cou ld have used h is pa rent’s connect ions in t he industr y to get his foot i n t h e d o o r, b u t h e understood that he would not feel l i ke he rea l ly deserved to be a published author if he took shortcuts and handouts. He wanted to experience the feeling of pride which only comes from accomplishing your goals on your own merits, fully k now ing that this meant adding years to his quest. Joe suffered through severa l rejections, just l i ke most w r iters, just li ke his fat her did w hen he w a s st a r t i ng out. Joe eventua l ly got published a nd has had b ot h c r it ic a l a c c l a i m from industry insiders as well as impressive sales figures, show ing public appreciat ion. If you enjoy the Horror Genre, I re c om mend “Hor n s” or “Heart Shaped Box”, both of which I enjoyed reading. I pla n to read Nos4a2 next. The author’s name is Joe Hill, though he w a s bor n Joseph Hi l lst rom K i ng. His parents are Stephen and Tabitha King. Opting to take shor tc ut s to u nea r ned ends may leave you feeling deservedly empt y. Hard work pays dividends in more ways t han one. The Genesius Guild of First United Methodist Church of Hammond brings the Tony Award-winning musical “The Pajama Game” to the stage weekends, July 18-27, 2014. It’s a nostalgic trip to the 1950’s -- a time of innocent romances, a time of “company spirit,” and a time when seven and a half cents actually bought something. Bi l led as a “br ig ht, brassy a nd jubilantly sassy show,” “The Pajama Game” won the Tony Award for Best Musical when it opened on Broadway in 1954, a nd once more ga r nered accolades when it was revived in 1973, and again in 2006. Based on the novel 7 and 1/2 Cents by Richard Bissell, the show tells the story of a union fight in a pajama factory for a seven and a half cent raise, complicated by the superintendent of the factory falling in love with one of the union reps. But in the best American musical theater tradition, the boy gets the girl, the union gets the raise, and everybody sings happily ever after at the end of the show. A lt houg h t he plot now r a i se s eyebrows i n a generat ion t ra i ned to be conscious of relationships and
harassment in the workplace, it’s a show that still entertains because of the broad comedy and the well-known mu sic. T he produc t ion nu mber s “ S t e a m He a t ” a n d “He r n a n d o’s Hideaway” and the romantic ballad “Hey There” were so well known in the pop culture of the ‘50’s that they made the Top Ten of the Billboard chart for several weeks following the release of the musical. “It is one of those musicals that is just for fun,” says Director Andy Leahy. The Genesius Guild production, itself a revival (last produced by the Guild in 1993), features Adam Pindrock a s Sid Si rok i n, super i ntendent of the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factor y; and K r ist i Peterson as Babe Wi l lia ms, union representative and head of the grievance committee. Playing their comic counterparts are Ryan Graan as the factory timekeeper Hines, Hermine Marie Robinson as head secretar y Gladys, and Emerson Caress as Prez, the head of the union. Jeff Erickson is the stingy factory boss, Hasler. An ensemble cast of singers and dancers, accompanied by a jazz trio, rounds out t he show. Jacob Ganzer is t he

Personal Trainer to the Real Estate Consumer
www.myshopper.biz/columnists/
Agent In Training MIKE BUDER Everyone is a “newbie” at some t i me. We se e ma nagers t ra i n i ng t he teenager at Taco Bell or the “student driver” signs atop of ca rs. But when was the last time you saw a “real estate professional in training” badge on a real estate agent or loan officer? Never! A good real estate company will hold a n agents ha nd during the “baby” stage. And a good lender w i l l ma ke sure a complete mortgage application is completed for a new loa n of f icer. Sad ly what of ten ta kes place is a “sink or swim” t ra i n i ng met hod a nd some poor soul’s home purchase is the training ground. We’ve seen this w it h bot h newbie rea l estate professionals and often with the “I’m using a relat ive” scena r io. Is it a fa ir quest ion to ask a professiona l how many transactions t hey have completed lately?…this year?…ever? ABSOLUTELY! However, a s a h om e b u y e r, w or k i n g with a new agent or loan officer isn’t necessarily a curse. Just because a real estate professional is new to t he business doesn’t mean that they have to be new to professionalism! Indeed, some new rea l estate professionals are years a head of some of the “dead wood” agents t hat have been a round for years. If a newbie has a strong support system w it h t hei r broker, you
can feel confident they should do a fair job. If t hey lack support A ND they are green, then you are taking a big chance with them handling one of the largest transactions of your life. Today’s real estate t ra nsact ions a re h ig h ly deta i led. Home bu yer s a nd e spe c ia l l y home sellers should never be the training ground for a new agent or loan officer to learn the ropes on their ow n. As a home buyer/ seller, do not be afraid to ask questions upfront and put the professional you choose to work with to the test. Any professional w or t h y ou r t i me w i l l welcome t he quest ions and concerns. And that is a fact, because in such a situation, the professional has t he oppor tunit y to shine, which will help all parties understand one another and work better together. Treasured Letters From The Past MARJORIE ALICE DEVRIES If you needed a n example for how write a gentle letter to your wife, informing her that you’re t ra nsferring to a ta n kdestroyer battalion, than here it is. Sg t. Rober t Buetow was stationed in Germany during WWII. His wife Lu lived in their apartment on M i lw au kee Avenue in Chicago, awaiting his return. He had to k now she wou ld read t he t it le “ t a n k- d e s t r o y e r ” a n d think “destroyer.” So he sta rts a nd f inishes t he letter with love tones. In between, he slips in the destroyer thing, but on top, he sprinkles glitter of hope for an upcoming discharge. Langen, Germany Monday, June 18, 1945 Lu Darling, How ’s my e xt raprecious sweetheart feeling tonight? I’m lonelier than ever ‘cause I haven’t heard from you for two days. Yesterday I had a busy day here and last night we had a little celebration because for a lot of us it was the end of our fourth year in the army. Today we had a little ceremony here. The general came down and pinned our medals on us, or I should say the ribbons from our medals. I ’ve got s om e n ews for you, but don’t get too excited over it. In the next day or so I’ll be transferred Werner aluminum ladder, 16ft. Working length 13ft. $45. 219-864-1962. Pitchfork 5 tines, 4ft handle. New condition. $15. 219-8641962 Double bit axe. to an outfit, attached to our divi sion , which i s scheduled to be inactivated so it is being filled up with men who are eligible for discharge. Of course, it may take quite awhile before we get to go home, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. T he f unniest part about it i s th at it ’s a tank-destroyer battalion! Remember? Just address my mail the same way except that instead of “Hq. Btry, 54th Arm’d F.A.BN.” put “Hq. Co., 703rd T.D.Bn.” The APO is still the same—253. I’ll bet you know as soon as I get any definite information at all, honey, so keep your fingers crossed an d k e ep h oping an d praying for me. It ’s almost ten-thirt y now, sweetheart, so I’m going to sign off and head for bed. Hurry up and join me and make me realize I’m really not so sleepy after all! BLAST FROM THE PAST PIX OF GARY MOVIE MOGULS AND NANCY DAVIS REAGAN: In a photo in or around 1943, this was taken in Chicago during a gathering of Gary, Indiana movie theater owners who met with then budding actress Nancy Reagan (nee Davis) who went on to become First Lady of the US when her hubby Ronald Reagan became the 40th President of the US. The distinguished gentlemen with her are from the greater Gary area. According to my sources, Bunny Stasinos Bikos and her sister, Helen Stasinos of Lincoln’s Restaurant in Highland fame. Their father and mother, George and Catherine met at one of the movie’s theaters in 1938, fell in love and married in 1943. George sold tickets and Catherine was an usher. The girls used to tell their friends that “Mom and Dad were in show business” because they got to meet movie stars who frequented movie theaters in those days. In this photo, the two men at left are unknown at this point. But, third from left is Nick Bikos, the owner of the Roosevelt and Indiana Theaters and the father in law of Bunny’s hubby Peter Bikos. Next is Otto Kruger, a famous and prolific actor in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Nancy Davis Reagan is fifth from left. The sixth and seventh in the photo are Peter and Tula Kalleris, owners of the State and Grand Theaters. The eighth person is Jim Bikos, owner of the Roxy and 5th Avenue Theaters. Number nine in photo is Nick Lemperis, owner of the Tivoli Theater. The Bikos and Kalleris families were Gary theatrical pioneers in the heyday days of Gary in the glorious past. How many remember the Copper Kettle Restaurant in Gary from those days? More on ‘remembering when’ in future N 2 N. If you have any memories of days gone by send em along with a photo if you can. *** INSURANCE ALERT--STATE FARM CAN PROVIDE SUPPLIMENTAL INSURANCE: We of Medicare age all know about the fact that Medicare will pay for 80% of our medical and hospital care but what about that other pesky 20%? I have tried United Health Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Mutual of Omaha and most recently, State Farm Insurance trying to get the best deal possible of course. I thought since I have State Farm with Chris Martin in Calumet City for both my cars and our homeowners insurance that I would try for the supplemental as well. I have Benefit Plan F which I understand covers the most. Hopefully if and when I need it. The premium, if paid monthly is a little over $200 which is not bad. If you need info on this call State Farm Chris Martin at 708-862-3737--he has all the insurance answers! *** GEORGE AND ROSIE PETRICH VISIT TORONTO WITH LION’S CLUB: T h e International Lion’s Club hosted their annual meeting in Toronto Canada this past weekend. Not one to miss out on travel anywhere, Burnham Attorney G eorge Petr ich, longtime Hegewisch Lion and wife Rosemary decided to join the rest of his worldwide ‘Brother Lions’ in Toronto over the weekend for a stay at the Strathcona where the conference was held. No word as yet if the notorious Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford participated in the meeting, or if he is even a member. Should be interesting to find out and I’m sure George will fill us in. Toronto is a beautiful city and the world travelers’ Petrich tried to see as much of the city as they could this past 4th of July weekend which of course Canada does not celebrate! *** ELVIS FAN ALERT--A TRIBUTE TO ‘THE KING’ AT K OF C HALL AUGUST 8TH, 2014: For those of us who can’t get enough of all things (or impressionists) Elvis, the Parents and Friends of LARC are presenting Elvis Tribute Artist, Joe Tirrito in concert on Friday
August 8, 2014. Festivities start at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 178th and Lorenz (just west of Burnham at 178th) in Lansing. Ticket price is $20 now through July 25th and includes a buffet style dinner prior to the show. The buffet and coffee, tea or water is included and a cash bar is available. Tickets will not be sold at the door, so Elvis fans need to get their tickets early. LARC provides help to developmentally disabled adults via workshops and residential services at the facility in Lansing. The Parents and Friends of LARC provide support to families affected by the challenges sometime associated with caring for someone with disabilities. Elvis Tribute Artist Joe Tirrito is a native of Chicago’s south side and has traveled the world over performing some of Elvis’ greatest hits though his favorites are in the Las Vegas concert years. For more information contact Kathy Brown, at 219-374-5277, 708-539-6995 or email her at ParentsAndFriendsOfLarc@ yahoo.com *** RIDING THE SOUTH SHORE RAILS WITH CALUMET CITY HISTORIAN CYNTHIA OGOREK: Under the auspices of the South Suburban Genealogical Society, Cynthia will be our host for the Saturday, July 12th meeting of the SSHGS, narrating our trip on the South Shore train line from Hammond to Michigan City, In.
