Athlete’s Feet

Athlete’s feet is caused by a fungus which is commonly found associated with the feet. It is characterized by a burning or itching of the sole of the foot or between two toes. Many times the skin appears very moist but can also appear dry with peeling skin. It usually begins as small brown blisters with clear yellowish liquid inside. As I sit here pondering what God wou ld have me w r ite t his week I’m r em i nde d of t he v a r iou s pa s tor s / leaders I’ve served under. Sometimes well intentioned leaders make loving and serving the Lord so hard. Ever y year the congregation was bombarded w it h numerous book s to study t hat teach different methods and strategies for engaging the church in ministry. A majority of the materials brought out good points, especially those that focused on the life and ministry of Jesus, the apostles, and the early church. After each study we increased in busyness, but remained unproductive, unfruitful, tired and burned out. Serving God is easy, that is, once you grasp the one key step that’s missing from the teachings we’ve engaged in. The first step toward productive and fruitful ministry is this: LOVING GOD. If we (the church) are to excel in serving God we MUST love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. And in order to love God like that, we must first be able to comprehend His love for us. My transition from being busy for the Lord to becoming a servant that seeks

On November 20, 2015, I w rote a let ter to ou r congressman to ask for help for one of our clients. The client had a problem for which there was no clear cut solution under Medicare. Flexibility to solve problems is importa nt. Imposi ng volu mes of l a w s a n d r e g u l a t i on s on the common people accomplishes nothing but choking the creativity to resolve problems from our people and our nation. I n my let ter to t he congressman, I suggested that a “Problem Resolution Of f ice” be establ ished for Medica re. I believe that Medicaid could be improved with the same idea. Here is part of my letter to the congressman. ### I f you c a n help u s to f i nd someone i n Medicare to help enforce the rule against “double c over a ge”, t hat wou ld be great ly appreciated. The South Shore Toy Drive is unique in the Lake and Porter County area in that it accepts both used and new toys and collects and distributes all toys locally. Used toys must be clean, without marks or scratches, and all pieces and parts must be included. The Toy Drive also accepts donations of batteries, wrapping paper, gift bags of all sizes, tape, and scissors. “Each year we have the opportunity to save and recycle hundreds of used toys. We love doing t his not on ly because we get to help out so many kids, but because we get to provide kids with the opportunity to pick out toys from their own collections to donate. The kids get to participate directly with the drive and learn about sacrifice and giving,” Hestermann said. CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Quest ion : My boy f r iend a nd I a re thinking of purchasing either a condo or a townhouse for around $300,000. We both will be first time homeowners. We have average credit scores (690 to 720) and have saved about 5 percent down payment plus closing costs in cash. We both would only consider taking a 30-year fixed-rate loan. If we take the plunge and purchase a condo/townhouse, the monthly payment will pretty much equal to 40 percent of our total monthly incomes, which will make the money situation pretty tight for the both us. With the direction of our local real estate market is going right now, should we wait until we save up at least 20 percent of the down payment to purchase for condo/townhouse? It will take us another year and half or more to do so. Or should we just bite the bullet and buy a place right now. Answer: None of the above. If local prices are softening, then you may have 20 percent down quicker than you think. However, a down payment is not the core issue.

You are considering the purchase of a huge investment, one that will absorb much of your income. If you feel that local market is declining, why rush to purchase if asset values are falling? Why not keep saving and buy when the local market is improving? Moreover, as long as you and your co-buyer are not actually married you need formal, written documents to govern any joint ownership as well as wills and living wills. Such paperwork may sound dull and boring, but couples do breakup, accidents happen and it’s relatively cheap to get such paperwork up-front -and often very costly to resolve problems without it. A nd you can use this experience to teach your children about money management: • Stick to a budget. Tell your children you’ve set aside a certain amount of money for gifts and holiday events and that you won’t exceed it. And if you have saved money throughout t he ye a r i n a spe c ia l holiday fund, let your kids know about that, too. This should help impress upon them the importance of sticking with a budget and saving for a goal. • Discuss credit and debt. Ideally, you won’t have to use your credit cards to an unusual degree during the holiday season. If you do, though, explain to your children that using a credit card is not the same thing as “free” money, and that your goal is to pay off the card as soon as possible, so that you won’t have to pay even more for your purchases in the form of interest payments. • Compa re shor t- a nd long-term goals. Explain to your children that your holiday spending is the resu lt of hav i ng saved for, and met, a short-term goa l, but t hat you a re also saving for long-term goals, such as retirement. RON BUCH NAT R E M E M BER ED BY FA M I LY A N D F R I E N DS : T he late Ron Buch nat of Crow n Poi nt was remembered fondly on Sunday November 29th, 2015 at the St. John Township Center. His widow Ursula is pictured here accepting the service flag from Navy personnel. Ron was a Navy Veteran and the militar y memorial with the playing of Taps was profound! Ron was also fondly remembered as a

longtime teacher at Heritage Middle School where he taught reading and communications for 34 years. Many of his students were at the memorial and many had fond remembrances of their beloved instructor. Also present were Ron’s hunting and fishing buddies who gave hilarious accounts of their a d v ent u r e s . Dau g ht er A n a s t a s i a “Stacy” gave a hea rtfelt tribute to her Dad, which also included some humorous anecdotes about her Dad. Ron Buchnat must have been quite a guy! May he rest in peace! ***
