You will certainly notice new processes implemented onboard to promote the health and wellbeing of our guests, but our dedication to keeping our safety as the paramount priority during your journey along America’s rivers doesn’t end there. That’s why we’ve implemented new SafeCruise Ashore initiatives. In the past year, we have all witnessed the world endure ever-evolving circumstances and new regulations. Today, we would like you to know for certain, that no matter the circumstances, our shore excursions team will work diligently to provide the highest standards of safety during your on-land exploration, and strive to provide the following experiences as advertised. However, the nature of the pandemic and safety regulations continue to vary from state to state, county to county, and day to day. With that in mind, we want you to join us with accurate and realistic expectations. Due to the evolving nature of COVID-19 and the varying intensities of regulations between counties, you may notice slight modifications to prebooked shore excursions. Please know that our team is hard at work to provide the best possible experiences on land, but some restrictions are beyond our control and may result in alterations to onshore programming. If such changes should occur to any of your excursions, you can be sure that our team’s first priority will be to provide an alternative attraction of equal value, both financially and experientially. Any itinerary changes will be communicated with you in advance. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. It was then that Woolfolk and his family moved into the home. Their family was pro-South and proudly flew a Confederate flag causing many uproars in the community. OLD STATE BANK BUILDING
Built over 180 years ago, the Old State Bank in Decatur stands today as a reminder of Decatur’s rich history. Completed in 1833, the building originally housed the Tennessee Valley branch of the Bank of the State of Alabama. After the failure of the state bank, it saw many varied uses and even survived the destruction of Decatur during the Civil War. Throughout an often turbulent history, the Old Bank has stood sentinel over the growing city of Decatur and today it is preserved as a building filled with both historical and architectural significance.

The artifacts on display include pieces of the original railroad and model trains, showcasing the history of transportation in Northern Alabama from the nineteenth century to now.
MORGAN COUNTY ARCHIVES
The Archives is home to hundreds of volumes of historical and genealogical subject matter. There are also permanent and rotating exhibits of the many artifacts and images from the Archives’ collection. Included is an exhibit about the “Scottsboro Boys,” which displays images from the 1933 trial of Haywood Patterson. Many of the books in the Archives collection are rarities that can seldom be found elsewhere, including histories of local churches, communities, and schools.
PRINCESS THEATRE
Originally built in 1887 to serve as the horse stable for the Casa Grande Hotel, the Princess was transformed into a theatre in 1919. At the beginning of the 1920’s when vaudeville was all the rage, the Princess was remodeled to host vaudeville acts and other live performances, and in 1940 it was again remodeled, this time in art deco, to become, in the words of Albert Frahn, “… the South’s brightest gem.” In 1978 the Princess was rescued from demolition through its purchase by the City of Decatur. Since that time private citizens have combined forces with the city in an ongoing effort to renovate the Princess. As part of the movement to keep the Princess Theatre alive, in 1995 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Remember! Your vacation, your choices. Visit as many or few of the included attractions in Clarksville listed below at no cost. From Civil War history to elegant historic mansions, Clarksville certainly offers much to explore!
SMITH-TRAHERN MANSION
Overlooking the Cumberland River, this majestic home was designed by Adolphus Heiman in 1858 for wealthy tobacconist Christopher Smith. The home reflects the transition between Greek Revival and Italianate styles, which were very popular at that time. Although not as large as some, the home boasts grand hallways, an exquisite curved staircase and a widow’s walk on the roof. In 1998, the mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
CUSTOM HOUSE MUSEUM AND CULTURAL CENTER As the state’s second largest general history museum, the center features rotating shows, art galleries, and a massive model train exhibit. Built in 1898 as a US Post Office and Customs House, it was originally used to handle the large volume of foreign mail created by the city’s international tobacco business. The building also contains three vaults. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY COURTHOUSE
The first Montgomery County courthouse was built from logs in 1796 by James Adams. It was located close to the riverbank with the rest of the early town, on the corner of present-day Riverside Drive and Washington Street. After this, numerous courthouses replaced the original, until finally reaching the sixth replacement. It was designed by George W. Bunting of Indianapolis, Indiana. Five years later, the downtown area was hit by a tornado, which damaged the roof of the courthouse. Then in 1900, the structure was ravaged by fire, with the upper floors gutted and the clock tower destroyed.
FORT DEFIANCE CIVIL WAR PARK & INTERPRETIVE CENTER In November 1861, Confederate troops began to build a defensive fort that would control the river approach to Clarksville. They mounted three guns in the fort. On February 19, 1862, Federal gunboats came up the river from Fort Donelson and reported the fort displayed a white flag and was deserted. The Federals took over the fort and enlarged it so that it would control traffic on the Hopkinsville Pike. On August 18, 1862, Clarksville was recaptured by Confederate Calvary. Union soldiers were sent from Fort Donelson to retake Clarksville in September 1862. Battles were fought at New Providence on September 6, 1862 and at Riggins Hill on September 7, 1862. The town and fort were reoccupied by Federal troops who remained for the rest of the war. Col. Bruce was placed in command at Clarksville and Fort Defiance was renamed Fort Bruce. Today, visitors are encouraged to walk the trails and enjoy the history that the location represents. Displays, cannons, and the occasional reenactors are just some of the things you can enjoy on your visit to Fort Defiance.

MEMPHIS Memphis’ first settlers were Native Americans who were drawn to the area’s bluffs overlooking the river. By building their settlements on the Fourth Chickasaw Bluff, it protected them from flooding, and the mighty river allowed them easy transportation access. When the explorer Hernando DeSoto and his army arrived in Memphis in 1541, they set up camp and the city of Memphis exchanged hands with the Spanish, French and English, eventually being sold to the U.S. Government. Today, Memphis is nationally recognized for its contributions to our country’s music influences. Dubbed the “Birthplace of Rock and Roll,” this iconic city offers a vibrant culture and history is intertwined through every street.
